Great video! I designed the remote deicing pad at PHL, but never got to operate those pods, like this. Thanks!

Thanks for the vid. Just about to pick up a deicing job for the winter and thought id look up what I can. Is it basically just power washing a plane with a joystick? Or is there a whole lot more behind the scenes?

cool videos. I'm about to work at JFK airport on nov 2015 I start training next week. is it easy to control the machine? and any advice for a new be? thanks

its easy once you get the hang of it. some people just seem to never be able to figure it out though. if you've ever played video games it helps since it is mainly controlled by joysticks. If you are just starting though you may be on an open bucket truck. In that case make sure to invest in some quality insulated boots or you will lose feeling in your feet every shift.

It's a Global Ground Support De-icing Truck. In the beginning of the video the truck in front of me with the "10" on it is an identical vehicle. Pretty awesome machine, the whole thing is controlled by one man.

I have a question what is that dark liquid on the surface of the aircraft?
@BelowMinimums
9 жыл бұрын
Sasuke Mutsashi Deicing fluid. It prevents ice buildup on the surface of the aircraft because ice causes drag and some other bad things and ice can make an airplane crash. (it actually has before, many, many times unfortunately)
@JaketheTTTHHHNAKE

Sorry I'm bad with replies! Yes the other person was correct its deicing fluid. The fluid is propelyn glycol and the orange stuff is a mixture typically around 40% glycol and 60% water heated to 150-180 degrees. The mixture changes based on the temp. The green liquid is pure propelyn glycol and its cold so its almost like a jelly. It keeps snow from accumulating and sheers off when the plane takes off

So do you control the truck from the ground or does it have a separate driver?
@JaketheTTTHHHNAKE
7 жыл бұрын
The truck is driven from up in the "bucket". There is a pedal on the floor that switches the controls in the left joystick over to drive. After you release the pedal, the joystick then controls the boom.
