As a left-handed person, this is kind of flipped around for me! I have less coordination in my right hand due to cerebral palsy, so that's my slower hand. And for ages, well before "proper" lessons, I played only with my left. Of course this also means that I have all the issues mentioned in this video, because it hasn't been long at all that I've been playing the traditional, two-handed way. I'm a chord newbie, especially. Those finger lifts...... my right 2-3-4s are gonna give me hell but I'll keep at it!! Thanks for another fantastically useful video!!

Being a Lefty, I have the opposite problem. It's my right hand that seems to be struggling with the melodies. Thanks for the tutorials on identifying the brain/or mental error we encounter when learning to play the piano. What mystifies me is... how my right hand seems the (2-Octaves in C) without much trouble, and my left hand requires extra attention to get them right. And I am yet to try even (1- Octave in C) with both hands in unison. The ( 1, 2, 5 - Claw) works on the left hand, but the right hand always wants to do a ( 1, 2, 4 - Claw), or else the pinky lags behind hitting the note to its right. I have to almost stand guard over dadburn right pinky.

First of all, I want to thank you and your staff for all the work you have put in to provide these helpful videos...Thank you. I just bought my first keyboard so I really did just start my adventure. My left hand and I were introduced for the first time last night when I unboxed and set up, then tried to do something, anything musical. After I found middle C (who knew it was right there?) I placed my hands on the keys and made a noise an annoying kind of noise. Long story short, I found your KZitem channel. now I'm actually playing scales and now and again I manage a chord. Destupifing my left hand will be easier to do thanks to you.

I taught a piano lesson before, and my student asked me, “Why is my left hand so much worse? It’s so hard to play!” And so I told her to just play something in her lefts hand but then she said that it was getting boring just playing scales. So I told her to do Chords in her left hand. It was fun for a while, because we played some songs, but then it got boring for her too. So an exercise that I made her do was to basically become a fake you tuber in her mind, and then kinda make her right hand the you tuber, and tell the right hand to basically switch lives with the left hand. And so I told her to play All of me ( Chord Version ) because it was the song she had been practicing for her big performance the next week, and so I told her since she was comfortable playing that song, that she should play the root note with her RIGHT hand, and the main chord with the left. She was actually struggling so much and I told her that would be her homework. For the next 7 days, she had to practice that, and I said she could do a song she was comfortable with, because if she wasn’t then she’d need to learn it and practice it. So I said “Stick with All of me for now”. So the next week, I saw her and I asked her to play it, and she did it perfectly. Her left hand was fixed so much more. After discovering this channel, (She’s about half a year older now, but she hasn’t quit piano ❤️) I told her all the exercises you did, and she’s able to play left hand beautifully. Thank you ❤️

I had one piano teacher who taught modern piano and jazz, rather than classical piano. We did several Hanon and Czerny exercises occasionally. "Often, the left hand kind of trundles along," he commented while we played Hanon exercise number one. This is an illuminating description that recognizes the plight of the poor left hand, so used to playing accompaniment or taking its cue from the right, which trails along when called upon to play simultaneous passages. "Trundle," which my Webster's dictionary defines as 'roll along,' is a word that is commonly used here south of the Canadian border, at least in a previous generation. To wit, I agree with the general point and demeanor of you post and thank you for the help :-)

I started 4 months ago and I know a lot about it. So thank you. Without you, I don't think I would've made it this far.
@coloaten6682

A diminished chord is a minor 3rd (3 half steps) from the root with a minor third added on top of that, so 6 half steps from the root. In the key of C the chord of B is diminished, so we have the notes B-D-F. The diminished chord in a Major scale is the 7th (vii) chord of that scale, i.e B in C Major. :)

Thank you for another great energetic, fun and pedagogical video Lisa! When I set out to really learn how to play the piano (not too long ago)...I have begun to understand that I might have a bit of advantage with the left hand (otoh. I'm old.. :p ).I played the Guitar on and off for 20 years (left hand does all of the cool stuff), and I'm kind of semi-ambidextrous (started out as a leftie and turned into a rightie for many tasks..). Why didn't I think of this, and why didn't I give the piano more attention until recently. :D
