It was in 2021 when I first started playing Dbd. It was the year where I started watching the Halloween movies, and Michael Myers is now my favourite horror slasher ( with Chucky being a close second ). And then.. i remember stumbling upon Otzdarvas 50 win streak with The shape. Then I bought it when I had enough money but I missed out on Demo, Steve and Nancy and never got to play on Hawkins. I spent so much money on this game and as I grew oher the years, watching more horror movies, playing the resident evil games and more things. I have had my wins.. I have had my loses.. I have moried survivors and looped killers. This game was also my first game where I hit over 1k game hours. For me, as a horror fan, this game is something truly special. I got many people to play it, some love it, some think I have a problem, but I really love this game, and i am very grateful to be seeing all of these amazing content creators, like Otz, Spookyloops, Dowsey, Demi and Das to name a few. So.. thank you

metaphors on point as always, food. i feel as though we're in an age right now of games just... not dying out. with the internet making communities most close-knit than they've ever been, even games like TF2 that are no longer receiving support have a ripe community. It's hard to believe that time could kill off some of these games unless the entire generations who're loyal to them pass away themselves.

That river of time analogy seemed to resonate with a few different people and I'm no exception. At a time of my life right now where big things are constantly happening and it's easy to let the journey pass on by and not appreciate the things we have. Many of us have games we used to play that had their servers shut down or whatever else, and we look back on those days as fond memories spent possibly with close friends. I first got into this game because my best friend got a code for it and gave it to me so we can play together, and even he's no longer with us. I know I'll be looking back 5 years past the expiration of DbD the same way I do with all the other games I used to love when I was younger. Treasure your time, people. We only have so much of it.

Other games like Cod, Overwatch, Halo, and Tf2 Have just become more unfun to play over time due to titles/updates/lack of updates, and that personally ruined the fun of the games for me. Hey Das Food I loved your video, but I was thinking of one alternative "ending" you only mentioned partly: As you said DBD could die due to a new game they would announce being DBD2 or something. I am thinking about similiar outcome to what happened to Overwatch. Don´t get me wrong I love the amount of new content that DBD gives us almost monthly. But especially when looking at the mass and variety of killers and perks we already have I am rather afraid they could run out of ideas or break the game somehow by dropping unfinished killers and perks. Looking at the twins and the knight for example I think that these killers should have needed more time to devellop. Also with every new chapter it becomes harder and harder to get into DBD when you are new to it and the lack of new players is definitely a death sentence for a game like that. I was talking to my friends about this and asked them if they would be ok with only two new killers a year (talking anniversary and christmas for example) and therefore using the other two slots for quality of life patches or long wished reworks. What do you think about that? Do you think this would cost the game a lot of players if there wouldn´t be as many new killers a year as before? I think this would solve a lot of problems but what abou you?

Dbd as a game reminds me to how dominant smash bros is in its niche. There can be so many smash-likes but the original creators of the "platform fighters" genre continue to innovate and polish this unique concept every new instalments. DBD is simple, accessible, easy to play and unique. Just like smash bros, you don't always see a developer come up with a unique blend of ideas and concepts without any true competitors to push innovation and do this well in the long run.

Some original killers ideas Some robot/cyborg killer or even a hal space odyssey type super computer (Some cool ideas could come from that) A shape shifting killer who can transform into either different beasts monsters or animals , each one with a different set of skills and finally a elemental type killer either utilizing fire or ice kinda in the way doctor uses electricity for an example an ice one could utilize slowing survivors or gen progress or freeze them entirely and a fire one could revolve around reducing efficiency in repairing healing and most objectives

I've been playing 5+ years and Bloodborne is probably my favorite game, but I don't have 4-5k hours in Bloodborne. Every game you play in DBD is a unique game due to the RNG, number of killers, perks, survivors, items, addon's, skill level (the MMR mess) and so on. There's days or weeks I don't want to touch killer and then there's days and weeks I don't want to touch survivor. DBD found the golden goose. I know someone that claims to hate DBD, but still play the shit out of it 😂

Dead by Daylight is definitely lightning in a bottle AT the exact perfect time to be. Been playing off and on since 2018, when Clown was the brand new Killer and I def agree that overall, this is mostly the best the game has ever been. Personally Eruption & Dead Hard don't bother me, I play both sides and those Perks have never been an issue. Map design, Mao offerings, Totem placement & hook placement (some maps have awful hook allocations) is where my biggest grievances come from, and Boil Over on a map like Midwich..... All I ultimately care about with Dead by Daylight's eventual end (either it dies for good, or they do DBD2 & OG DBD fades away) is that the company and developers add in a offline bot (with better ai boys that use perks) because I do not want this game to be unplayable after all these years....I'd still like to pop in and fuck around as these characters I've spent nearly 6 years with, esp Horror Icons who you will almost never play as anywhere else. While games as a service are pretty much designed to be fast cash and either live forever or die fast, I honestly don't want the time and money I put into DBD to be unable to be played again. Sure bots will never replicate what going against real players is like...but I firmly believe no game should be unplayable entirely. Friday the 13th and Evolve (far as I remember) are still playable if you wanted to fuck around and that's the every least a game company can do with games like these

They update regularly. Add new DLC (filled with horror licenses AND original content) regularly. Balance and rebalance the game mechanics regularly. Have in-game events regularly. Engage with their community regularly. Update pre-existing content with better visuals and audio regularly. Their competitors have a tendency to fizzle and die off... regularly. Most importantly: DBD is making BHVR serious MONEY! Is it really all that surprising DBD is still going?

Is that you can come back whenever you please. I don't ever have to worry about "missing" anything about dbd. I come and goes as I please which is why I love the game. I wish more games where like dbd. Cause ngl one of the reasons why I had to stop playing games like Apex Legends. Was because i felt like I had to play every day. Cause I was worried like crazy for missing something or not completing the battle pass in time or not 100% each week weekly challenges. Now I'm at the point where battle passes suck to me. Cause I don't care about having fun anymore when I have to worry about leveling and competing a weekly challenge. I just want to have fun man.

What killed other 4v1 games wasn't "Because its not DBD", but a handful of mistakes that all of the other 4v1 games made. - Monetization: Except for VHS, all games had at least a $5 entrance fee. Buy to Play games will never be as popular as Free To Play games. A successful competitor should be free to play with a cosmetic catalog that is not rotational / limited edition. You pop the game open and you don't have to pay a dime. You can if you want to, but it doesn't impact your gameplay. It's all about look and not about feel. All previous 4v1 games had an issue of being heavily monetized (purchasing characters or, rarely, grind 50-100 hours for a character). This is not a competitor DBD players want. - Lack of Marketing: If a 4v1 game is not wildly popular within KZitem and Twitch, the game will not succeed. Influencers have a ton of power over the success of the game. This is why all major games have Influencer Marketing programs. For EA, for example is the "Game Chargers" program, while for DBD, is the "Fog Whispers" program. A successful competitor would have to buy out major DBD content creators under a 1 year contract to fully switch their audience from DBD to the new game. - Lack of Content: DBD has 40 maps, 34 survivors and 30 killers with more to be added in the future. New games usually release with 1-3 maps, 1-3 killers and 4-5 survivors. A new competitor should have at least 40 killers and 40 survivors plus at least 40 maps to be relevant. - Progression / Grind: You need progression in a video game, but not something that impacts gameplay. All characters should be free and instantly unlocked and there should be no need to grind out perks, but level up characters for cosmetics that are exclusive and the more you play that character, the better cosmetics you get. Some cosmetics that cannot be purchased from the store,, such as pools of blood of a different color or the bloody overlay that DBD's Prestige cosmetics are, but at a much larger scale (any outfit you want). - Gameplay: WHO THOUGHT THAT YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO KILL THE KILLER? Literally all other 4v1 games did this. Plus made the killer experience a nightmare. In all other video games, whenever I play killer, I straight up feel bullied. This leads to long queue times and tons of players leaving the game. - Queues: Players want quick queues. A new competitor should have some mechanic where you enter a list and get a game when 5 people join the queue. One of them randomly gets killer, but you vote if you want to be killer or not. If you don't want to be killer one time and the game has to set you as the killer, you can't be a killer next round and so on and so fourth (just like Among Us, who don't know who gets what role until the match starts). - Licenses: I don't think that many people started playing DBD to "play as Myers". While it is a factor, it is not mandatory. A competitor should have characters inspired from iconic characters so they can add licenses as legendary skins for them. For example, Trapper is inspired by Jason, while Hillbilly is inspired by Bubba. Instead of having them as purchasable characters, they would be skins that cost $15. - Unfinished products: All 4v1 games have been released in an early access / beta / buggy / unsecure state, ruining the experience just to get some money. Not good. This is not a competitor DBD players want. Conclusion: Players will not leave DBD after spending tons of money and time and grinding out thousands of hours to just do that in a different video game all over again. Plus, the killer experience of other games is terrible! The new competitor must be free to play with a cosmetic shop that is in a catalog format and the battle pass only acts as promotions to give out outfits / cosmetics for free / cheap if you play the game in a given season, after which they get added in the store at full price. The game should not have progression that unlock gameplay, but progression that unlocks cosmetics. So people know you are a long time player that put on hundreds of hours in a character. Its not all about the brand. Playerbases usually decrease by 75%, but because there is something better. Very few games have more players than they used to in their first month.

I see a lot of hate and disrespect to the devs. Like more than i have for any other game. DbD has stayed so commited to its playerbase despite alot of haters constantly ragging on it. I have played since there were no dlc. I barely remember the vanilla DbD but I felt so amazed a game like this existed and i do now. Especially with the licenses they acquire. It shows a love for horror and dedication to the fans unparraleled in my eyes to other game devs. I love Dbd and i always will 😊

So many devs have dropped the ball the past few years, I wouldn’t be surprised if more we loved did the same. Between Bethesda, CD PR, Blizzard, Infinity Ward/Treyarch, I’m honestly worried about my favorite game series.

Lots of giants have let us down in recent times, but I'm hoping BHVR bucks the trend. My heart can't take watching another favorite series - Halo, Mass Effect, Fallout, etc - fall on hard times.

Forgot to Mention another reason that the game can die is by simply getting bored of the game and quit
@dracophoenixttv

I really think dbd cannot die yes it could based on what you are saying but if they keep adding new killers or survivors which in march we get both. It adds a new element possible map to the game. Also if bhvr ever implements fan ideas as killers or survivors they would just gain more people. Add a new IP also will make a difference look at when Nemesis and Wesker were added their was a huge jump in player base into the game IP does help. Considering the creators of terrifier Practically begging to let their IP in speaks major about the games popularity the fact they can just turn them down is big to. The game is practically unkillable Also worth noting poppy playtime went through a controversy and is still popular they released a dbd clone project playtime which is going well it seems they are ready to add a new monster the devs asked fans to vote. (I did want them in dbd but hey is what it is)

Interesting thought! It's fascinating to wonder if a game can take measures to avoid the dreaded death-spiral. I think so, but I'd need more time to consider all the implications. Great idea overall!

the only thing about Deadbydaylight for me is, yes it has players but them player numbers are VERY fragile. The devs have been really screwing the formula of making a casual horror game into a competitive try hard mmr game. That stress really isn't a long-term stable choice to make. It's one thing being built from the ground up to accommodate this mindset (Halo,Counter Strike,Dota,League) but it's so different for Dbd that they need to really get a slap with some competition to make them realise its by far their weakest choice and area of expertise.

Hopefully dbd doesn't pull an overwatch with a dbd 2. that'll really kill it. More than likely just gonna be dbd for another 10 years. What mainly keeping it alive & will for a long time is the replay value. Not every game is the same & when people get sick of it & stop playing just as many if not more people come along & play it. At one point its just becomes a game you play because you have nothing else to do.

I mean shit, they literally abandoned TF2, not adding anything ever, and it's still going strong too. Of course, DBD is not TF2, no game comes close to that one in terms of devotion from its playerbase. But, still

I think there’s one more way the game could die that’s even more stupid. Making blood points purchasable, this would instantly make the game pay to win and those games almost never last long

Oh yeah, direct pay-to-win would kill the game in a heartbeat.

People have also just poured too much money and time into dbd to truly jump ship so easily The only thing that could beat dbd is a dbd 2.0 successor with cross progression. Btw nerf buckle up

I think the GTA5 compare was fair, because BHVR and Rockstar sharing at least the Online Gaming Incompetence. The RAGE (Rockstar Advanced Game Engine) netcode might be slightly better than BHVR's Patchwork quilt, but that's not too difficult, because EVERY other existing netcode is better than this. Both Games share the fact to make use of P2P Technology AND Dedicated Server at the same time, but BHVR is the only one, which actually tunnel a P2P Protocol over Dedicated Servers. And on top of that, you might not know, but GTA5 is already dead since over 6 years. 99.9% use the RAGE Engine under the hood to connect to a private Server, which are running completly different Scripts, having completly different Content which makes them actually completly different Games. It doesn't actually matters if you use RAGE:MP, ALT:V or FiveM all, those community created Game Modifications have implemented a better netcode than those 2 Companys. If you connect nowadays to default GTA:O Lobby, you better have an Online Mod installed to protect yourself, because the others will have for sure.

00:30 Meh...now I don`t really know if I wanna see the rest of the Vid anymore...DBD 2023 sucks, they should rewerse it to summer 2018 and rework every change they did after that! Mostly just rework the maps properly and so they could have spared 80% iof all Killer, Survivor, Perk and Add On Nerfs!
