This is a very sad response. It purports some level of intellectual credibility in its apparent militant-classicist defence of Chekov. But, as with all reactionary thinkers, there is an insidious underlying fascist tendency which condemns without question any attempt to challenge the rules of the form. In theatre, the old ways are no longer the best ways. By conforming to the stipulations of the past, we condemn theatre to the museum. The artform has to be challenged or it will not survive. You clearly attended with a closed mind; loaded down with cultural prejudices. It's your loss. If you're not 'open', you can never receive.

This is literally the cringiest thing I've ever seen in my life. The whole play is just "lol, chekov was boring and long, am i rite??" . This narcissist of a director/writer manages to inject this suffering and brooding narrative he literally narrates over the entire play into your headphones, it's gimmicky, weak and most importantly a giant "intellectual" piss on the russian playwright. Picking a guest from the crowd is a childlike idea of what it means to act upon the audience as a performance, the theatrical equivalent of getting your dad to sing Migos on karaoke. The "dance scene" too, jesus christ...
