dude i play hunt showdown which has also has proxy chat that lets you talk to enemies to convince them to work together if you wanna try and the way its prevented from the whole server going friendly or getting ganked is via the bounty system that AT MOST only allows for 4 bounties with 2 per boss meaning adding any 'friends' past honestly just 2 is a recipe to be murdered by your allies when you least expect it. honestly like just talk to people and talk em into not killing ya if they are ganking ya or dont engage.

You use dogtags for some big items btw. You can collect X amount of dog tags for a dogtag case which was always nice. It would be super cool to collect something like that for a bigger space to store stuff.

The state of gaming is wild nowadays. Used to be back in the day, you find a game you and your buddies like, and you grind it for the next 2+ years. You laugh, you cry, you rage, you become intimately familiar with the game and its mechanics. The amount of hours I spent playing CS and Quake would have net me a Doctorate degree by now. Nowadays everything is so fleeting and cyclical. New game comes out, big streamers/youtubers play it for a week then they move on and so does the fan base. Sometimes it sticks for a little longer, but since its a beta game and devs eventually have to transition from active development to reactive development to keep away the RMT's and cheaters. Development slows, cheaters grow, and the player base leaves. It really is a bummer the state of games right now, especially competitive FPSs.

gaming is just extremely saturated with options. back in the day there were 3 main options for competitive FPS: Quake, Unreal Tournament and Counter Strike. now look at all the different options we have today. content is king, if you stop updating players will bleed out to the other games vying for their attention. sad, but it is what it is.

Removing crypts was the biggest mistake this game made. They took the map that is balanced best and is the most popular and essentially removed it. Doors are the great balancer for range. In ruins you can kite for 3 modules without opening a single door

For real. Crypts was the most fun to fight in. So many great rooms that feel super nice with DaD combat. There's rooms where everyone shines and most people can do what they want in a fight. Feels like you're at the whim of ranged ppl on ruins at most times. Crypts is what we fell in love with.

if you start in the middle south module you can kite east and follow the border modules going 10 modules around the map while not opening a single door.. yeah Ruins can easily be fixed if they just break up the rooms a bit more and make EVERY MODULE have doors

there need to be a merchant that shows up in the transition phase between maps so you can dump your loot before going into the next map that way you dont end up fully looted before even making it to the second map

@@TheCosmicAstro- I've never seen a take I've disagreed with so much, I have no idea how people enjoy the new Goblin Caves. It's by far the worst map in the game imo. Forces you to fight people for portals that can spawn in the worst possible places, and even with the map being big it feels like you're constantly getting third-partied more than every other map in the game. There's barely any loot spots, to the point where you're mainly getting all of your loot from Crates or rooms that have like maybe one or two Lion's Head chests. You pretty much need a Mystical Gem or to kill the Troll / Cyclops to get worthwhile loot when grinding Highroller ranked. Ice Caves just needs fewer mobs, it's way too mob-dense, but it's otherwise the best map in the game right now. Good loot, with fewer mobs it would be good PvP, and there's gear literally everywhere if you want to zero to hero. Only thing I'd like to see changed is the action speed / movespeed debuffs, I get it's an ice map but god are they annoying. Ruins is genuinely a chat room, you go to the bridge and everyone is there fraternizing and playing Among Us with how whole groups team together to kill anyone who shows hostility. There's barely any good loot on the whole map, too. You go to the hotspots with Royal Coffins or Minibosses and that's it. Inferno has so many cheese spots for mobs, you genuinely don't fairly fight any of the rooms, so I really don't get how that map is badly designed at all. Maybe the mobs you could argue are badly designed, but the map itself is fine. Go through the boss room, use a invis potion or just go fast, and rotate to the other side, or go through the rooms. Highroller hell has so much purple and legendary loot it's absolutely ridiculous, especially with Luck potions.

I've been hunted by a 5 player team in solos. Jumped by a 3 barb team in solos, and numerous double squads. Reported to the devs. they said, send us footage of the teaming... guess we all have to stream to enforce some sort of justice.

Devs too incompetent to create a replay system and force players to do their own video submissions is such a joke. It's insane to me that you have to compile footage and manually submit it to report people. All of this should be driven by in game systems.

Placing the responsibility on the consumer is insane, and assuming I wanted them to just ban anyone I say without review is a bad faith take. There is a middle ground no?

I actually have a lot of faith in them. They have put in a ton of updates the last few months and seem to be working through all this stuff. It's just very frustrating in the mean time.

I've been playing maybe at a mid level, hit pathfinder on two characters, have every class to wanderer. Got my brother to play the game, and we are having fun playing semi casually, even against goldies. That being said, we're pretty good at games, but I think there is still hope. Ironically, I think the biggest thing holding the game back is the elite active player base who make the game unapproachable for new players. I don't think that's you Spuddy, you're a goat but not a cringey goat

Ruins needs to be bigger, they need to expand on the underground portion of the map or something and add more spawns because it’s way too easy to spawn rush since everyone spawns so close, they should add the npc that lets you send loot to your stash but make it cost one player soul to do so, I think that base movement speed and movement speed caps need to be class specific and be increased by a bit on everyone except barb to try and tone down the ranged meta and counter smoke pot rogues. I really want the devs to add more fun abilities like demon warlock but for each class, like maybe make a perk so wizard can cast with just hands and its twice as fast but does half damage or a perk for Ranger where you can only run crossbow but you do double damage. Maybe not these exact ideas but just fun additions that make people want to retry the classes and mix up the play styles in the dungeons

let's be clear. 8.3k current players at any given time puts you in top 100 games on steam. And this game is still early access alpha with missing and unfinished classes, incomplete levels, missing levels, missing bosses. Like, there's still a LONG ways to go before it's considered complete and there's always a big surge of players whenever a game does leave EA. Let's also not forget that it's not even on steam yet so the only people who play it are people who've been invited by friends and people who've seen clips online. Literally 0 advertisement so far and it's popped off. The game isn't dead, the wipe is just overdue. Y'all the kinda cringe doomers who scream "WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE!" on an airplane when there's some expected turbulence. Game's population is fine.

I think part of the problem with making player kills valuable is that people will start farming each other. I think people will be more aggressive if gear gap wasn’t so big. In tarkov any gun can take out any one so people kill people to be safe. In dark and darker you don’t have to worry about the starting kit fighter killing a decently kitted bard.

This is why i love hunt man, games been around for 5 years, knows its identity and has great gunplay. Sure there are cheaters in higher elo, but its nowhere near as rampant as in other games. It also has consistent playerbase.

Yes and no, it would be good for doing pvp and get a grip of your char . Good for New players when everyone knows exactly what they are doing and it feels painfull to go in dungeons, struggle on pve and loot for 10mins just to get wrecked by someone. Not knowing what happened and what you could have done not really learning anything, get frustrated and just leave the game. You would still need to go in dungeons to get loot. Arena with same medium gear for everyone so no gear advantage. I wish there was an arena mod so I could kinda "train" and be more confident for pvp encounters in actual dungeons

Teaming screwed up the game, but with the popular argument of "the game is based on 3vs3" nothing was done about it, even though the majority played solo. Many will say that the game is not dead, those of us who tested the betas saw the best moment of this and were sad to see what was left of it, in the end it was not Nexon that ended Dark and Darker.

I'm calling it the 3rd map curse. Cycle added the 3rd map and it split the player base so much everyone just quit. DnD added the 3rd map ice caves and lobbies have felt empty.

Best queue option was when it had 1 queue per team size and it auto rotated. Just people cried all the time about quests so they changed it. Result is empty lobbies and people fade.

I feel like the demographic that would play and enjoy darker and darker is not the same demographic who would play and enjoy Fortnight I think it appeals more to players of hardcore survival games like rust and dayz and ofc tarkov

I'll always remember what joy this game brought me in October and December of 2022. Best gaming experience I have ever had, bar absolutely none. Quit early-access two months after release. The game went from being a punishing experience you can enjoy into just being a walking treasure chest with no chance. The git gud bar is just too high for me.

My main question is what is the vision of this game? Is it a dungeon crawler with aspects of full loot pvp or a pvp centric game with cheeseable mobs sprinkled in to avoid while you hunt players? As it stands it's the latter. Even as a solo you will have a player on you within 2 minutes. Catering to hardcore full loot pvp enjoyers inherently equals dead game because there is no incentive for pve enjoyers or casual gamers to play. Wolves eat all the sheep. Game only has wolves, game becomes death match, game is dead. I'd say bigger maps with randomized tile configurations and challenging un-cheesable pve would be my ideal scenario. That's just me though and I understand right now it's basically just sweaty pvpers playing so perhaps ironmace leans into that very niche market.

i think the best solution to the queues is to go back to something similar to what the playtests had Instead of their being solo's, duo's, and Trio's their is just 1 queue which is all 3 together where you can run into any of the 3 this helps give back that sense of tension that the playtests had where you werent sure if you were running into a solo or a team this would limit it to 3 queus too which would help keep the lobbies full

I used to love the Crypts map and hoped for it to be duo or solo… The fact you need to go through ruins first, fuck that. Not picking up the game again. Crypts is just the better map. Ruins sucks balls. I used to go into crypts as a solo vs trios and sometimes my buddy went into crypts with me too. We preferred crypts by FAR, just we didn’t like always fighting 2v3… but by gods the crypts map is just too good to lock into behind a fucking upper tier

I absolutely agree with @aggrocreepers7710 on this. Having a merchant, who could purchase/store a limited number of the items you’ve collected thus far, between each of the dungeon stages would provide significant encouragement for players to descend instead of leaving. I don’t dislike the idea of making the portals all reds on Ruins, if they keep the 3-tier system with that particular map. I would still like to see some of the Ruins’ modules reworked to allow more comfortable distance closing on rangers. Rogues can have their fun imo. Not really capable of being TOO much of a pest with just a hand crossy to attack people with at range. Also, another note. It would be really nice if ranged options as a whole were discouraged by having more limited resources. Maybe make francescas and throwing knives only stack to 1 to reduce the max amount, or even hard cap it at a number. Doing this with arrows/bolts and then upping the cap for ranger specifically is a good way to keep ranger viable with an ammo nerf, too! Edit: I am also BEGGING people to buy the game when it goes live on steam again. There’s so much fun to be had when a community isn’t going stale and full of jaded über gamers

there’s talks about an insurance system for gear in the game which could be healthily added if it was somehow tied to pvp maybe via accumulated soul hearts. something like x amount of hearts to insure y amount of pieces of gear would be returned to you in the event it isn’t looted by someone else in a match. either way this game we enjoy is bleeding and more than just a few good changes need to happen for a proper bounce back

Sadest thing was recommending to sdf and graysun in msgs on disc, to add the low rollers, no gear, obviously alot of people were saying the same type. Graysun responded and said we got other ways to make the game fun. 2 weeks later, they released low rollers into the game, me and my squad thought the game was semi saved, boah was i wrong. I have no other clue how to make the game any better, were TIRED of f-ing hearing from their dumb interviews that they got 1-2 people working on development, put more into it. They got 20mil from us damn near, 10m went to lawyers, where the other 10m go, it aint stable/protected servers, ahh yes their pockets i forgot.

Way to fix teaming could be just limiting portals to 1 in the last zone, especially after they bring in gear insurance. Alternative could be some kind of debuff that you get by spending some time next to other player. You can't use portal with this buff and you can remove it when this player dies.

I'm sure this reply is gonna go great. The hard to swallow pill here is that this was a studio with a vision for a multiplayer team based hardcore dungeon crawler that made concessions to appease a wider player base (that truly did show up in troves) by adding a solo queue, and while there is nothing inherently wrong with this, it immediately started to undermine the overall direction and vision that the team had. They had to adapt to the realities of the situation, and again I'm not saying there's anything wrong with it, but it is what happened. We moved into a new direction where solo and duos were now as big of a part of the game as trios. Before you freak out on me and try to regurgitate some half formed rejection because this challenges what you want to believe about the game, go watch the interviews. They're not hard to find. (Sorry Spud not at you brother, I know u know the tales of old) If you really think about they way that a team-focused class-based dungeon crawler needs to be designed, it immediately says: Identity. What is is that makes the classes unique, and how do they work well together, or against each other in groups. Now this is a fundamental design direction, this isn't something you can retroactively just walk back and for a multitude of reasons (all of which you are currently experiencing). What gave the original game concept flavor, depth and unique interaction, actually just makes for watered down rock paper scissors outside of the teamfight format. People try to refute this all the time but its simply not the same approach in design between a multiplayer team based game and a solo game, and that's just reality. Now if you're a solo player and you're absolutely seething right now, don't worry we'll make it through this, its not your fault. Repeat with me... its not your fault. Okay now that we made it over the hump the solution here is making the design decision to split off solos and duos, there should have been separate balance patches for them, and longer term potentially entirely different skill trees w/in training if that ever came out. Also, just keeping in mind this is a PvPvE roguelike game, this isn't supposed to be fair or competitive anymore than Texas Holdem is (actually incredibly similar). Having played hundreds of hours of this game in the playtests, and currently developing my own games due to how badly this ruined other video games for me, I really am not concerned about its longevity. It was so good it changed my life trajectory... as long as they find their identity, again. They already found the magic before, they just need to revitalize that with an inspired vision of the future that aligns with the market.

The risk is too high to down to to the next level most of the time for very little to no reward. Maybe if they add inbetween lobbies where you can restock and sell and keep some of your progress before you move to the next level more people would go down.

I still see DakkaDakka as an event, since the burning of the past play typically does nothing but start a new game save, which without any clear direction has just gotten dumb for too many people. Glad people see that, hopefully Iron Mace finally does and they don't crawl into a coffin.

They just need to remove rng affixes. This isnt path of exile or diablo. They dont belong. Dark and darker is basically a battle royale/extraction game. There is not a single battle royale OR extraction game with rng rolls on loot. Tarkov, hunt showdown, apex, pubg, fortnite, etc. Not a single one. Rng loot? You betcha. Rng stats ON that loot? No chance. Its just bad design.

I will say the flow should be crypts -> inferno -> a deep level of inferno where demons and scary monsters are the main concern - that way PVP isn't the core of the third tier. I would say this would be good for goblin caves where the lower levels would unlock stronger goblins (hob-goblins, goblin champion, orcs, etc.).... I feel like the tiers should follow the same theme.

Ruins to crypts to inferno progression is fine, but ruins is a horrid map and should not be a part of the progression in its current state. I can't believe double jump onto walls is allowed to exist, and there's too much open space which makes it incredibly difficult to deal with rangers or even be able to escape pvp.

I feel adding ruins to Goblin cave order makes more sense even for the solo only experience. Goblin cave already has a double boss system and they could even increase the raid time if moving forward with making GB a tier2 level. I think the best thing they could do with the arena is make it so you dont risk your equipment going in. Incentives actually using named unique at the high end ranked section of arena. Whilst i also feel this encourages casuals to gradually build a better and better set from the extraction aspect of the game.

My take on why no one goes to hell (3rd tier) is this: If you make it to the end of ruins, half the time you are already looted up and just want to get out. And the other half, you already have some stuff and after crpyts you are definitely full. So why would you go to hell, where you get shafted by the centaurs and berserkers, when you already have an inventory full of gas? It's why I almost never get down there in my trio runs. (That and our team not beeing all that great at pvp, so we often die before even getting there) Mb make it so you get the ass loot above, and for a good, well looted inventory, you HAVE to go below.

The appeal of going to hell, for me at least, is no pvp sweat on my ass when I'm trying to AP farm solo. But it's a tradeoff with potentially getting circle fked as you have to clear mobs mythotically lest you get fisted when you accidentally aggro the whole room.

Honestly the inventory system just isn't big enough to accommodate the 3 tier map. They really need to shift to a weight system and have strength or vigor increase the amount you can carry. Or they need to give you a way to send stuff back to your stash in between floors. If I kill a gold sweat bis hunter on the first floor, I'm extracting, cause I'm not finding anything better on floors 2 and 3.

I think this is a good way to imrpove the tier system for going down. Make the maps smaller, less total players per lobby, shorten the game time for ruins and crypts to about 6 mins each. keep inferno the way it is

It's an easy fix, create a new map with only PVE on a timer for all players and the top gear will be locked to a certain level. The stuff found in PVE will have a status so it can't be traded or sold.

I believe something that can be changed that would affect the entire gameplay is the "zone" system. The zone closing has always been a "battle royale" mechanic to insentivise combat between players and a "last man standing" feeling. But we all know that DaD is nothing like that. You can escape and/or venture down into deeper hellholes, be it via portals or fixed spots. And one thing that i see the most in the game are people dying NOT TO OTHER PLAYERS, but to the ZONE, because it closes so quickly!!! They keep implementing hidden rooms, more bosses in the same area. All of that is time consuming, and instead of us feeling tense and trying to make most of our time, we feel fustrated since the game won't allow us to reap whjat we sew!!! SOOOOOOOO.....here's a brand new twist to the zone mechanic. What if, instead of it becoming smaller and smaller over time, the zone closes itself via different manners. FOR EXAMPLE: - Ritual Circles: By sacrificing the Soul of a player in the Ritual Circle, the zone starts closing a certain ammount towards YOU. This could be a way of Rewarding the people who like to fight + Providing them an opportunity to find other enemies quicker. - Ritual Cultist/Reaper: A simple monster that appears close by whenever someone dies, it slowly walks -towards the corpse of the dead player, takes it's soul, and proceeds to the Nearest Ritual Circle. It then starts performing the ritual, closing the Zone. (I even have a design for the monster in mind, with it holding a lantern with a blue-ish light coming out of it, and when it removes the soul form the player, you can visually see the soul coming out of the body and entering the lantern). And you may think "so if no one dies, the circle never closes and they can stay in the map indefinitively?" And to that i say "yeah, what about it?" People should be rewarded by their gameplay and besides, they're not obligated to stay, we can say the portals start appearing eventually. Another solution, if you REALLY want the circle to remain a thing, instead of an interactive mechanic, the Ritual Cultist could also gather the souls of monsters, and their souls can fuel the lantern for the Ritual Circle (Like, 5 monster souls = 1 player soul or something). All of this could even become an interesting idea for a Cleric spell, "Spare the Dying"! He can cast it on dead corpses, preventing their souls from being "taken". This could affect players and monster alike, HOWEVER. If the Cleric died/left the zone, all of the "protected" corpses would be able to be taken. Another spell could be around the Warlock, something that allows him to steal the souls of enemies and make himself more powerful by consuming them (And by that i mean PLAYER SOULS, not monsters). Anyway, i know i wasted my time cause no one would take their time of day to actually read this. Have a good day, y'all!

The Big 3 multiplayer games are dominating their market because they've hit a good equilibrium between specialization in their market demographic while not over-specializing. DaD is too broad; a lot of its playerbase is at least as interested in the hardcore PvE gameplay as it is the PvP gameplay, and the result is those players are more willing to cooperate when it advantages them. Teaming is a result of the demographic DaD targets. If there was a means for players to self-segregate by preference, with a specific limited-time PvP-focused queue (like a "last man/team standing takes the grand prize" style event) and an always-available arena mode for players to experiment and learn PvP gameplay without the risk of losing gear, those players who aren't as serious about PvP would have a path to dip their toes into it. It would encourage them to be more willing to take risks in the mainline queue. There'd still be teaming, but it would reduce over time (barring developmental mistakes, like oh I don't know making it much harder to climb rank if you PvP) as people will be more and more confident in their PvP skills and willing to take on two players who may both be low as it would result in much greater rewards than the currently safer option of teaming with one and collecting that 3rd player's loot.

It's similar to, though opposite the spectrum, of those players who play DaD and just run away from every fight and only ever want to do PvE content. What is it about DaD in specific that would drive you to play but only in the pure PvP queues, rather than play one of the other PvP hack-and-slash games?

For down systems to work, they need to make it so other lobbies connect to try and fill up the map. Ruins to Crypts you're going to be dealing with ONE other team, maybe 2 at most, although usually no others, in the majority of games. So essentially after Ruins, it's strictly a PvE game. I'd rather be able to pay a 100=150g "fine" to skip out on Ruins if I don't want to play it, to go straight to crypts. EDIT: I also think they need to bring back the ORIGINAL design for Ruins. When it was first introduced it had multiple locations which had another floor above it adding to verticality for more than just rogues. I haven't enjoyed Ruins since they removed those and just made it one floor essentially.

I feel like I'm one of the only ppl nowadays that loves the tier system. It feels rewarding when you kill everyone in tier 1 and then go tier 2 only to find that you actually missed someone and then have a good fight between you two, and then from there u can decide to go to hell or get out. Having the choice to get out or go down is pleasing to me. I'm also of the opinion that the ice caverns fun but that seems to be the unpopular opinion too. In my personal opinion, a lot of the ppl complaining ab how "hard" the ice caverns are just don't put in the time to learn the new mob attack patterns. Ever since like the first week or so after ice caverns came out I haven't struggled with the "hard" mobs at all. It sucks imo that not everyone thinks this way but I digress. Can't wait for the ice abyss to start shitting on the ice wyvern :p. Also, I've noticed that I barely run into hacker or cheaters on NAE. seems to be like a oce server thing which SUCKS for oce players 😢

I think the issues of layered maps is a lot to do with: 1. Map integrity for each classes (already pointed out and by far the best argument) 2. Lack of space to store a lot of items. I don’t mind the idea, however it’s just not ready to be implemented yet. There’s no features like NPCs to store loot between levels or items like backpacks to carry more loot. You can get a lot of AP and good items, but is not always rewarding Especially when it takes double the time to do so.

I would like to see something that might not be doable. Make it so you can queue up straight into the crypts but you have it integrate and wait for the match to start with from people who started in the ruins. Have a huge penalty such as no healing items allowed to be brought if you queue straight into crypts for high roller and no penalty for regular mode. The regular mode penalty is your against people who just looted the previous level. Still keep regular mode to require only poor quality items obviously. Also, for pvp, make it so you get dog tags from kills and your able to trade them to the gambler like candy canes for items.

I kind of feel bad for people in other regions trying to play the game. I main Slayer fighter and only play US-East, and the experience is not bad at all. I might get the occasional teaming peeps, but it doesn't matter what the devs do, it would be impossible to completely remove teaming, and the servers have been feeling a lot better too, so not a lot of complaints from me really.

I love inferno. I would love to have Ruins and Crypts be separate maps that both lead to inferno. Lobby and server design may need a change. Whenever a player takes a portal, they have left the server that was hosting that game. This way Inferno games may collect players from various servers and lobbies. I believe the devs are going for a system like that already. I agree that Static Reds should open earlier.

im glad to see so many people agree with ruins is a complete joke of a map and ranger paradise. i miss starting on crypts and all my friends barely play anymore ever since ruins was the starting map. honestly id have a smile on my face if they just delete ruins as a map for good. they even put gold ore on the map back in the day just to get people to play it and that wasnt enough so they decided to force everyone to play it in order to get to crypts. just depressing lack of awareness

This is why I want Dungeonborne to come out already and be a success. Not because I think it's better, but because some healthy competition will (hopefully) light a fire under Ironmace and force them to get their sh*t together to prevent people from abandoning ship. Right now they have a monopoly on the medieval/fantasy extraction genre, so there's no incentive for them to listen to players, since they can't get that fix anywhere else, and that needs to change.

I've never played this game but I have an idea to help stop solos from teaming. Make some very important environment interactions not work when other players are nearby, it may not stop it entirely but with an added layer of annoyance it may deter alot of people originally doing it. They are teaming because they are lazy and want easy loot with little risk, a simple 10m distancing to allow players to do certain things could stop alot of them cause it's to much work

I mentioned it elsewhere but a bracketed ranking system for ranks above pathfinder would incentivise PvP (basically would work like Glad does in WoW, where only a certain top% of the playerbase will qualify for higher ranks regardless of total AP, meaning you are in competition with everyone else's AP scores rather than a fixed milestone). You could also add a multiplier to AP earned in a run that scales higher the fewer players are still alive when you exit (with a smaller penalty applied for every player that made it out a blue portal, and a smaller bonus for every guy you personally killed). Combined, these massively incentivize PvP for people who want to farm rank (ie; the people who _were_ avoiding PvP because it simply wasn't conducive to ranking up, not because they don't like it) as well massively de-incentivise teaming due to a severe AP penalty from 10 people all bailing together on Ruins. Basically, Ironmace need to decide _definitively_ what kind of game D&D is, because right now there are at least 3 "groups" who think they know what the game is - and what it should be - but they're all different games. There are people who are going to chase titles and leaderboards no matter what, there are guys who are gonna PvP no matter what, and there are guys who are gonna try and be the biggest POS they can be no matter what. The trick is to design a gameplay flow that gets all of these people involved in the same content in the same way. PvP has to help you rank up, ranks have to reward PvP, and being a dick needs to have its own risks and rewards that involve you in the game in a way that isn't just basically griefing. The biggest one, to me, is balancing the different modes. It is literally impossible to balance all the classes for Solos and have them still be balanced in Trios - and vice versa. Either IM needs to have separate balancing for Solos and Trios (not a good choice, drives an even bigger wedge between game-modes) or they need to have a "focus" for the game - a default game mode that represents the essence of the game. IMO this should be Trios, but that means that Solos will always have a more obvious and restrictive meta due to classes balanced for team synergy being notably weaker when alone (ie; half the classes in the game). It's possible that they put enough perk/skill variety into the classes to make them all viably built for either game mode, but IM sure as shit isn't there yet (this issue is very well exemplified by new Ignite buffs - it makes Wiz playable in solo for the 99% who aren't cracked but now it's kinda turning Trios into a meme - proving that by giving Solo viability to the average Wiz, Trios balance has been negatively impacted simply due to the way Wizard works). Even if IM manages to grow the game and the community in the future, this issue is just going to get bigger.

Get rid of all blue portals on ruins and have red portals show up way sooner. Keep static exits because they can be fun pvp spots. Add way more blue portals to crypts, maybe even static ones to fight over

On the map discussion. I play every class except bard. Ruins is the best map. Crypts just feels terrible. Too cramped, shit map design. Theyre trying to add too many maps causing people to complain about not getting their favorite map. Though in actuality most people have 1 map they want to play and the rest they dont care about, or actively dislike. as for balance, the problem is primarily RNG affixes on gear. Yes even without that some classes reign supreme. But the core comes from trying to balance characters around high roller gear which leads to imbalance in normal gear, and extreme inconsistency with high roller gear. The only way to make classes feel consistent and balance them properly is to delete RNG affixes. Legitimately. Since it allows the devs to explicitly decide what each class can and cant get through the class specific gear.

3 layer ruins is 50% of what is ruining the game, i dont care what the devs vision is but the current implementation fucking sucks the fun out of the game and doesnt work. its just filled with issues and the entire idea of 3 layers doesnt work because too few people ever go red portal, this had led to the game turning into a PVP arena aka ruins, which could be fine if it actually was good for PVP but it just isnt... old ruins had a perfect balance of PVP/PVE and good pacing, it was relaxing and nice

The era of barbs is over now. What is next? Wizard staff bonk was here for a short while, now all seems kind of balanced... for now. Right now, as a veteran DaD player, I'm enjoying the game most by playing in normals with more inexperienced teammates, trying out weird builds. EU lobbies are full (at least in prime time) and it's a lot of fun to fool around. My solo experience was so bad at some point this wipe that I was close to quitting. I gave up trying to rank because of the friendly meta that was peppered with queue sniping teamers. However, for a while now, I haven't seen any teamers at all in solo goblin caves, so I've been enjoying it again. There is so much untapped potential to this game, it's insane. A lot of us veterans are a bit burned out right now, but I'm feeling very excited for the next updates. I really hope they focus more on early game content so more people see how cool the game is and face the challenge of fighting players with 1.5 years of experience playing the game.

It could help if they would include a minimum que time like 30 sek minimum for solo lobbies so the pool of people they can draw from to populate the lobbies would be bigger hence making the chance of teaming players getting in the same lobby smaller. And if it is too much time "wasted" for some people make it an optional check box (even if this would split the playerbase and would lead to longer que times in general xD)

Ya know, I was thinking about the whole incentive for PVP thing and came upon the thought that, maybe, they should make it that you can collect other player's soul heart, and if you use it an altar of sacrifice (as well as it taking like 30% hp or something) it spawns a small treasure pile. Like offering souls to some evil god who gives boons or even it spawns a small treasure pile AND a small glowing red "soul heart" that when consumed gives you +3-5 all stats like a "blessing of battle" for the rest of the match! But choosing one takes away the other.

I really think they need to add a raid style mechanic like WoW. Maybe Normals becomes the arena mode for initial gear, then grind through HR crypts for better gear then take it to a 5v5v5 map where you all fight for the right to battle the boss. Powerful PvP and boss fights should be the whole point of the loop.

Dark and darker motivated me to build my own game and make it better version than dark and darker and with more active engagement with the community to balance things faster and create classes that are not “meant” to be godmode like barbarian. My 10k hours of path of exile, 2k of diablo 3 and 30k of counter strike across all of the versions, and lastly league of legends since season 2. I have the game design knowledge to build a better game. The only thing is the building part I will have to learn and build. I’m a dev, but I’m new in game dev world
