I’m writing this 10 secs into the track and the hairs on my arms are standing on end as I know what’s coming next … not all Dead Kennedys songs are 200mph thrash songs and that applies here . The message from their perspective in early 80’s San Francisco was not to give in to their frustration about slum housing and greedy landlords by rioting , burning the slum properties down in an orgy of crowd frenzy only to realise next day they were homeless and they’d unwittingly cleared an area for ruthless property developers to build expensive homes they could never afford . I’m too old for pogo’ing these days but every fibre of my being WANTS to 😅… The music is great but the message is greater …. Now I’m gonna let the track finish and just luxuriate in rage, frustration and hopelessness 😝 Thanks SO much for this track , this has set me up for a great day ✊ 👍🏴

There’s more of us but WHO goes first ?.. whenever you see a riot you will see this at the point the crowd meet the police , darting in and out , hopping from foot to foot making sure you don’t get caught … the lyrics are so spot on . Must admit I had to laugh out loud seeing how much Cynthia hated this and struggled to find a crumb to be positive about 😅.. it’s COOL to hate something passionately and disagree with the subscribers who asked for it C n C , it’s one of your virtues that you will play a requested track and honestly give it a listen but also give an honest appraisal, it sets you apart from other reactor channels who paste a smile on and love every single requested track no matter what their true feelings are . Don’t change , it’s why we keep coming back ✊ 👍🏴

I’ve also just re visited this banger , it’s not to everyone’s taste , I get that . Apart from the music it’s the lyrics from the rioters point of view I love , so visceral , so authentic . I should point out that from interviews at the time Jello Biafra was talking about slum landlords in San Francisco who , legally not allowed to kick out their tenants , sometimes planted folk to engineer a riot that burned down areas or individual properties which could then be rebuilt with the insurance money to “ gentrify “ that area making it impossible for the original inhabitants to return , completely changing that demographic of that part of the city - THATS what the phrase “ tomorrow your homeless , tonight is a blast “ is actually referring to - the rioters were so frustrated and frenzied in that mob that “ they played right into their hands “ meaning the hated slum landlords ! Effectively making THEMSELVES homeless . ✊ 👍🏴

"Tomorrow you're homeless" refers to the fact that the rioters were blocked from the rich neighbourhood by the police, so they returned to their own neighbourhood and caused massive damage there. Biafra is commenting on the irony of a situation in which the police are relatively happy to watch rioters destroy their own homes, shops, vehicles etc. I found myself in a riot situation in a deprived part of London and remember how sad I felt seeing dwellings and property in flames when the owners were the people who could least afford it.

I was part of a riot, the night George the 1st declared war on Iraq. In San Francisco, no less. The feeling of this song is spot on. I was never arrested, but the cop car that was set on fire, did have a gas tank. That brought us into reality. To our credit, after trashing an army recruiting station, we did stop others from burning it, after noticing people watching out the windows, next door.

I didn’t like it mate ! That might surprise you .. I was surprised too tbh ! 🤷♂️ It’s a modern track from a modern band but sounds EXACTLY like it was a left over from Plastic Surgery Disasters and that’s over 40 years ago … I was 19 when that came out and it was the right time in my life to catch it … I just don’t care for new music like Putin at this point in my life , it just doesn’t ring authentic for me now . From this same album, I suggest "I Am The Owl." To me, it's a sapient commentary on the tactics of the CIA, Majestic 12, etc., and how they take advantage of an easily-manipulated populace.

I understand Cynthia's reaction. That album, Plastic Surgery Disasters is incredibly noisy and shrill. But it's perfect for their sneering dark lyrics, I think they should be way more famous, like the Sex Pistols (but much more artistic and informative) ✊🏴☠️🤘💥📣

got to see these guys in 1983 when they came to australia.. i'm with Cynthia on this.. i found that guitar tone to be off-putting at times, though there's a live version of ''Holiday In Cambodia'' where the guitar sounds more haunting than the lyrics... sometimes it worked for me, others times it did not.

A whole album of this would almost turn me religious!!!! @SuziQ499 that's ok,.....maybe your right.....but I think I'm well qualified to make my point....I was 16 in 1976 and went into London every night almost, to see live bands....the punk explosion had really kicked in.....already by 1977 there were lots of "punk" bands who had jumped on the bandwagon and made a noise and called it punk. It had already become dated and commercial....IMHO there was only one real punk band......the Sex Pistols......I was lucky enough to see them twice and they were a really good "rock" band. Steve Jones is a criminaly underrated guitarist.....his solo album "Fire and Gasoline " is testimony to that. Maybe, just maybe you don't get me at all.!
