hey guys! I feel like a lot of people are skipping over the intro, since there have been quite a few comments of people pointing out that we didn’t include (insert your favorite horror anthology here). As stated in the beginning of this video, we placed over 50 horror anthologies into a hat and drew them at random and ranked those. We didn’t “leave off” your favorite anthology, it just didn’t get selected in the random selection process. Notice that this video is horror anthologies vol. 1. There will be at least 1 or 2 more episodes about anthologies, and most likely, the films you want to see ranked will be in those!

I tried that on earlier entries where I merely hadn't seen several of the movies and I was just lost for most of the video. I will now unpause and attempt to watch it anyway. Apologies if I don't make it through.

All right. A little late but let's do this. My rankings in parenthesis. Hood of Horror (Dead Last): I think we've had worst Dead Lasts but I just couldn't justify ranking this higher than last place. Galaxy of Horrors (9): I mean this is barely a movie. It's a compilation. I did enjoy some of the segments but again I couldn't justify placing this very high. After Midnight (5): I enjoyed this a fair bit for some reason. It's not a good movie but it does have that vibe of something I would've caught on HBO or something when I was a kid. Grim Prairie Tales (7): This movie is bananas. It goes from a demon lady sucking a dude up into her body right to a girl finding out her dad is in the KKK. Ghost Stories (8): This just didn't work for me. Like Josh I'm a bit biased against anti-skeptic stories. The ending was bad and it barely felt like an anthology. Body Bags (4): Yeah, I like Body Bags. First segment was ok but I think the other two were great. And for the record, I like Carpenter in this. The House that Dripped Blood (2): Love this film. I came real close to giving it first place. Dr. Terror's House of Horrors (6): My least favorite of the Amicus film in this least but I still enjoyed it. Trick R Treat (3): I don't like this quite as much as I want to but yeah I like it. Tales from the Crypt (1): God, I love this film. So stoked it got first place. This might be my favorite horror anthology period.

Okay. here is the rankings I sent to Josh... 10. Galaxy of Horrors (I hated this...I just...hated it-but mainly due to the wrap around) 9. Hood of Horror (This one has not aged well. A few good ideas but not a great execution. But the cast makes me want to like it more than I do.) 8. After Midnight (1989) (Not actually *bad*... just not terribly memorable) 7. The House That Dripped Blood (I ended up liking this one quite a bit) 6. Body Bags (Carpenter's Coroner is.... inconsistent. I like the stories though... The Stacy Keach one is quite fun) 5. Grim Prairie Tales (Fun film, I think my favorite aspect is Douriff and Jones though) 4. Dr. Terror’s House of Horrors (This is a pretty solid collection of tales and an awesome cast of British greats) 3. Ghost Stories (2017)(I really like how this film interweaves with the "bookends"... a single narrative, but not.) 2. Trick R Treat (This one still works, I watch it every Halloween, such fun ideas and a good cast) 1. Tales from the Crypt (1972) (I found all the Amicus ones watchable, and this one holds up very well)
@ajbonine69
3 жыл бұрын
This turned out fantastically! Great panel, great insights, great opinions. Lol...was I the only one who gave Galaxy of Terror a higher ranking? There were actually elements that disturbed, so that got it a higher ranking. I loved After Midnight until it was a dream. The stories could be stupid because they were urban legend-style 80's cheese but then it shot itself in the foot by being meaningless. Little bummed Grim Prairie Tales got such a bad ranking. It was my number one because I absolutely love James Earl Jones in that movie. Plus Brad Dourif playing straight man to his absurdity? Forget about it. You're right, Josh, the wraparound was the best part but I would still defend that movie (I mean, she absorbed that guy!). Clay's reaction to Ghost Stories was very similar to my reaction: there was a lot to enjoy but again, nothing is learned and it's all pointless in the end. I have a lot of nostalgia love for Body Bags. The gas station story alone is awesome because the horror director is the red herring, the nerd is the killer, and the werewolf is the hero. John Carpenter is a staid actor and probably shouldn't be in front of a camera unless he's doing an interview, preferably with Kurt Russell. I ranked The House that Dripped Blood eighth and I'm kind of sad I ranked it so low because it has so much going for it. A lot of my rankings came down to quibbles and I guess it had less wow factor. Normally I wouldn't fault it at all for that since it's the template these films follow. As older films go, all the ones on this list are great but maybe not as contemporary so I ranked them a little lower. As for Trick r' Treat ranking at two, that's where I put it, so I just find it amazing any one of these ended up on the final list where I put it. I would refer back to what Derek said on the Christmas Dead Last about Black Christmas and how though for his own personal reasons he didn't rank it number one he still felt it deserved to be, that's exactly my feelings on Tales From the Crypt being number one here. I love it a lot. Joan Collins casually killing her husband and getting her comeuppance from a killer Santa? Peter Cushing as maybe the most pitiable but scary zombie ever? The blind feeding that guy to his dog? Yeah, total classic and totally deserving of being number one. Hood of Horrors being Dead Last makes me feel like I should defend my seventh ranking. All I can say is Danny Trejo. I had just watched some interviews with him talking about his crazy/amazing life leading up to becoming an actor and when he showed up as that demon/angel it raised that whole film in my eyes. Is it a stinker, though? Yeah. I would say so. And way more deserving of being Dead Last than say Jaws the Revenge. And way down here at the tail end, Derek's contribution was freaking fabulous.

@@Dig_TV Thanks for the link. Definitely checking out your show. Guessing it's quite a bit of fun. That's a great story. Eric Freeman seems like if provoked he has the capacity to get quite intense. For some reason the first thought that came to mind was his ex declaring to the judge, "He never mentioned Silent Night, Deadly Night Part 2. When I saw it I knew we were over because I realized it pervades every aspect of his life," and him being like, "Oh come on, it's not that bad! So what if I say 'garbage day' every time I take the trash to the curb. Is that really an irreconcilable difference?" I probably shouldn't demean what was a serious thing. Please excuse my ramblings. Also, I have to state that I'm glad Tales From the Crypt won the tiebreaker. I'm another one of those people that just feels Trick R Treat is one of the most overrated horror films that I ever hear talked about. I actually own the film and had heard so many great things about it that I bought it the day it was finally released on blu-ray. Only to watch it and put it in the 7/10 category for me, where its a film that has some segments I really enjoy and then others where I just stop paying attention. I think I'm in the same boat as Josh where its a film I want to like because so many people claim its a masterpiece, but then every time I watch it I just can't feel the same.

The "it was all a dream" ending does ruin Ghost Stories for me. I would have been fine if the twist was that he was in hell & being tormented by his past sins, & the others in the movie are being tormented by their encounters that resulted in their deaths. By putting him in a coma & the other characters hospital workers makes their stories irrelevant. Contrast this with the "all a dream" ending in After Midnight. It was the weakest part of the movie & was still a bad conclusion, but at least by making it a premonition, it doesn't negate all the stories told during the movie.

you ranked Trick r Treat in second place over tales from the crypt ? come on, you have Anna Paquin in it as a sexy she wolf going around dressed like red riding hood and you guys ranked it that way. Josh, your dead to me lol. all kidding aside, bro. i loved the original tales from the crypt movie first time i seen it. i told myself if santa is that evil. i better start behaving myself. lol

Trick r treat got 'random picked' and it ranked high!!! .... sorry ... no way does it compare to other far greater anthologies like Body Bags ...!! ha ha ... no way! Body Bags was way better than Trick r Treat!!!

we drew the movies at random from out of a hat. tales from the hood was in there, but wasn't selected. maybe in vol. 2!
