Indiana , PA. is a college town, with Indiana University right in the middle of town. This mall would thrive if it catered to the "college kid" crowd. There is actually a Sheetz MTO there that doesn't have gas pumps.

Sean Spring EXCUSE ME ? Cater to the College kids you've got to be kidding me ! Honey I'm from Indiana and the Mall doesn't need to cater to iup !!! Thats why all the Anchor Stores went under and the Mall is dying because the new generation wants EVERYTHING their way and to cater to them ! Well honey the world DOESN'T revolve around iup kids ! I've been right all along,the reason why the stores are dying is because of snot nosed little punks who can't leave well enough alone ! The mall was doing Wonderful until iup took over Indiana ! I can't believe the residents of Indiana would hand over THEIR town to a bunch a party assed punks who only care about drinking,drugging and starting fights !

I grew up going to this mall usually every weekend with my family, and it's sad to see it in one of these dead mall videos. It's a shell of what it used to be. I remember the huge arcade located where the H&R Block is now, EB Games, Kay Bee Toys, The Wall, American Outfitters, and several other stores that used to be there. I still go there occasionally, but it's sure not what it used to be.

You have to rent a store Front,5,000 $ that was a month.that was in 80's ,its 2019 now I could imagine how much Rent is now.I really wish Indiana Mall would make a come back.

The loss of Bon Ton likely will be the final nail in the coffin for this mall. I hope I’m wrong however, I don’t see there being another department store which would take its place. As for Bon Ton I blame poor management. They haven’t spent 50 cents on most of their stores in decades. Consumers want more and Bon Ton delivered less.

Funny that this mall has an indoor glow golf course. I was in Phoenix last week and paid a visit to my mom's local mall, Paradise Valley. Like Indiana Mall, it has a glow golf course and it's been losing stores, too. I compared store lists from a decade ago and it's lost Old Navy, GAP, Foot Locker, Abercrombie and Fitch, Aldo, American Eagle, Ann Taylor, Buckle, Foot Locker, Charlotte Russe, Christopher and Banks, Johnston and Murphy, PacSun, Shiekh, WetSeal and others. It still has a few stores that tolerate being in failing malls (Hot Topic, Spencer's, Bath and Body Works and Victoria's Secret to name a few; oh, there's a Payless and Claire's). There's now a lot of empty storefronts and mom-n-pops that sell everything from fossils to ethnic items. As a matter of fact, an Israeli man at a kiosk tried to sell my mom a bunch of expensive wrinkle creams; he dabbed some on my mom and it stretched her skin, making her uncomfortable. Thankfully, Paradise Valley still has their anchors (Dillard's, Sears, Penney's and Macy's) and it gained a new cinema a few years ago. But, this mall needs work. Here's a video on Paradise Valley: kzitem.info/news/bejne/q2auxXqon6iaoWU

Just a little update....a news story in the Indiana Gazette last Friday....the Zamias Co., who owns the mall is promising a "major,major overhaul" of this property. 3-4 new anchors are close to signing leases to fill the vacant, and soon to be vacant anchor boxes. They also stated that JCPenney has committed to remodeling, as well as the common mall areas will be "spruced up" in their exact words. I hope they follow through with this plan, after almost 40 years, this mall is really outdated and needs revived to spark the interest of local shoppers. Time will tell, I guess.

I was lucky to be in my early 20's at the height of the big malls. Friday night was a ritual for my girlfriend and I as we went to York steakhouse where we met a friend and we had a 5$ steak dinner with salad, potato and drink! Then it was out to the mall and we walked from one end to the other... went up stairs and did it back again and ended up at Aladdin's Castle and spent the rest of the night there till they pulled the chain link gate down half way to let us know it was time to go LOL! Those were the days...

I loved seeing the fountain, which you rarely see anymore, and the other aesthetics. You can tell this was a really cool place in its day. The psychedelic mini golf thing was kind of fun. It really is telling when a mall in a more remote setting is struggling, those people already have a lot less choices than those of us in large cities. Great video as always.

Love love love the 80s and 90s music!! If possible could you please list the songs in your videos??? I was a kid/teen in the 80s and malls were so much fun!! I still love to go to the mall. One if the most beautiful malls in Ohio that is dying is called Forest Fair Mall/ Cincinnati Mills. It was so spectacular in the 90s!! I mean it had rides and everything. Huge mall with beautiful decor and stores and 2 cinemas. I spent many weekends shopping and hanging in the arcades. They had a singing booth were you could pick your favorite song and you would sing it Kareoki style in a booth and it would record it on a tape for ya. I remember making a few tapes with my friends of Madonna and Michael Jackson songs. Also the photo booths 💕 those little things were so much fun and candid. I miss it so much. I hate that malls are dying. You should research Forest Fair Mall in Forest Park Ohio. It has a pretty cool history and it's still open but only has a little arcade in it with old skool style arcades :) its a huge beautiful mall!! A lot of ppl still go to the anchor Kohls or ppl like to excercise and walk the halls but at one time that mall was phenominal. Might sound silly but I hold a very special place in my heart for malls. I really hate how they are dying. I do purchase online for rare clothing items and cosmetics but let me stop rambling. Come check out Forest Fair mall!!

If you ever get back to the Chicago area, check out River Oaks Center in Calumet City. It's definitely struggling, with only Penney's and Macy's left anchoring that mall. Carson's and Sears closed their stores they operated there a few years ago, and a movie theater there closed back in(I think) the late 2000s. Not as badly struggling yet(but it probably will get there soon, I now fear), is Stratford Square in Bloomingdale, IL. You'd really like the interior design of that mall(especially center court), if you ever visit. A few years back it lost Penney's, and last year Macy's closed. This year with Bon-Ton's bankruptcy the Carson's there will close, and I've heard the Sears there is one of the stores that Seritage will eventually close in the near future at an undetermined time. The Kmart across the street from Stratford was renovated a few years ago, so I have no doubt Sears Holdings decided to keep that Kmart over operating the Sears inside Stratford. After Carson's closes, its only anchors will be Burlington(used to be a Montgomery Ward), Kohl's, and a 16 screen Century Theater(Cinemark). North of Chicago and in southeast Wisconsin, you'd also like Regency Mall in Racine, WI. This mall is definitely struggling, and lost Sears and Penney's a few years ago. It has a Boston Store(now closing due to Bon-Ton's bankruptcy), Burlington, and a subdivided Joann Fabrics and Ross in its former JCPenney space. Almost forgot to say, Regency has a Dunham's Sports anchoring that mall too. And I think Bob's Discount Furniture recently filled in an outer space not long ago attached to that mall building, but don't know if Bob's Discount Furniture has interior mall access. Another great vid from you, keep them up!

You shot it a year plus? ago. Kmart is gone. Sears is gone. Bon Ton is going going gone (I think I killed Bon Ton when I commented Keep an eye on Bon Ton... have a feeling they'll be dust in 2018.) Amazing JC Penney and it's retro 80s decor hangs on. Hope they can find a way to save this little mall. Keep those videos and your personal insight into them coming!!!!

There are many parts to the equation that has lead to the great decline in people visiting malls as local hangout location. It is very hard to prove.... but I personally believe that the decline was greatly affected by an overall business decision by many malls across the US that the teenage population was determined as a problem for the mall business process. As with any business action, it can take many months to feel the affects.... but with the management ruling from disallowing malls as local teenage hangout location.... the mall attendance was on steady decline afterwards. Interesting enough, the teenage population is what draws the complete attendance to the mall environment! Any mall establishment that figures out how to redevelopment the mall environment to support being the local teenage hangout location once again.... will greatly succeed in being successful once again! O:-)
@stephenalexander9558
6 жыл бұрын
You are correct.... but the overall action was fairly much to ban all teenage people... instead of managing the issue.... as they were determined of no value to they crowd attendance at the mall. I am giving thought to the idea that there was value to the malls being the local hangout.... a concept that was driven by the teenage group.
@777jones
6 жыл бұрын
Good thought. Teenagers used to be a population that made malls successful. They got jobs there and spent money there. Young families spent money there. That’s all changed. I’m not sure today’s teenagers are socially or intellectually capable of doing good things in a mall anymore. Malls are for old people. Malls are going away. Ace remains respectful even though he has a thousand yard stare knowing the 1980s have absolutely no future now. It was 30 going on 40 years ago when this stuff was current. Half the customers are now dead. Maybe this land should become forest.

I generally believe that the primary reason most malls are dying is that 'middle-class' people no longer have the disposable income that they had back in the 80's and 90's. Everyone I know today in my age bracket (I was born in the early 80's) is working their butts off and have little to show for it. I only spend on rent, food, and utilities. I cannot afford to just go shopping for the fun of it. The middle class is dying and along with them so are malls. Look at the malls that are thriving, they are the upscale 'fashion centers' in wealthy suburban areas where people still have money to blow every weekend.

Indiana Mall was a happening place,alot of older shoppers would be in the Mall shopping,I also worked in this Mall so I know how busy it was,when iup got gigantic and took over Indiana and basically the Mall,all the older Generation stopped shopping at the Mall and that's why all the Anchor Stores went under,who wants to be around snot nosed undisciplined punks.I sure don't. Iup needs to go ! Get rid of iup and see the Mall thrive again.iup HAS GOT to GO ! I remember that the Mall had an RV. Show every Year,where campers could upgrade their RV's, well ever since iup took over the Mall can't do that anymore because of potential chances of theft and vandalism.I remember those RV Shows ,my parents used to help some Family Friends with their units. I also Remember York Steak House was in the Mall,York Steak House was where that orange thing is.York was a great place to get a good steak dinner.

If ACTUAL BonTon was the same as their acquired Midwestern names, then I think it's overwhelmingly clear why they bit the dust... The large portfolio of underperforming stores is one thing, but having a significantly higher ratio of employees to customers at these said locations is most likely the reason they went under alone. A whopping SHITLOAD of $$$ that could've been spent elsewhere!

Its funny seeing companies go broke as they cant adapt or will they lower prices. Also cant pay their employees a decent wage. Car insurance will kill me when a $10,000 truck wonr. Go figure. Sad, real sad. Its what it is.

this music genre is called "aesthetic" or "vaporwave". Some of the songs fall under the "Mallsoft" genre. Bandcamp is the best place to find these gems
