Sadly Harmonix is now stuck in the Epic machine doing work on Fortnite. I would've given anything for DLC for the Amplitude reboot, but it never came.

audiosurf took some inspiration from it by the looks of it and found a lot of success because you could add custom songs. It kinda died when everyone stopped downloading MP3s though.

Frequency was my gateway into rhythm games. One of my favorite memories from that time was walking all the way across town to pick up a PS2 network adapter the first day they went on sale just to play Frequency online. I actually ran into Robotkid (one of the Harmonix team members) online that day and got to play against him once. I still listen to the soundtrack sometimes; a lot of the music still really holds up!

@@kantraa I honestly can't remember at this point, it's been so long. But it was fun regardless of whatever the outcome was!

Fun fact: Rock Band Unplugged for PSP, Lego Rock Band and Rock Band 3 for DS, and Rock Band Blitz for PS3 and 360 are all mechanically identical to Frequency and moreso Amplitude, showing that, despite the whirlwind success of their peripheral-based titles, Harmonix always had a soft spot for those games and never gave up on getting them to succeed. It's kind of touching in a way.

The majority of the gameplay from this was reused for Rock Band Unplugged on PSP, changed into a four button layout and using L and R to swap between instruments. It was really enjoyable. I played endless amounts of it back in the day. Now I really want to track down Frequency for PS2 just to experience the origins.

Amp did so many cool things. They had character customization. You could make remixes online with others and save them. So a remixer/level creator.

The reboot is my favourite rhythm game of all time (aside from OSU!). Such a shame the game is dead and there was neither DLC nor is there much of a chance for a new similar game by the same devs.

I was going to request you cover these. I had just returned from Japan and separated from the Marine Corps. I had nothing but time and got amazing at Amplitude. Like disgustingly good. I would remix tracks online that were damn near impossible like a musical mario maker.

I loved these games back in the day. :) I wonder if a Frequency follow-up would be cool for VR. I just got my Quest 2 and I enjoy Beat Saber quite a lot.

i know it was out of the scope but id include rockband unplugged, blitz, and the ds ports of rockband since those sort of have the same idea but a little different

You should definitely give Amplitude 2016 Deluxe a try. Has all of the songs from the PS2 Frequency and Amplitude as well as quite a few customs.

You could make your own music tracks for friends to play too. Taking the samples from other artists and arranging how you want.

I love guitar hero, but I prefer 1000 times frequency and amplitude over guitar hero, I played frequency for the first time back in 2004 and I still play it to this day, I'm also addicted to amplitude as well, but frequency is and always gonna be my favorite rhythm game.
