In the 80s there was a guy who did a routine in a Piper Aerostar. I forget his name but I'll never forget his show. He also had a Waco that he'd perform in. The smallest, tightest diameter 360 turns I have ever seen. Defies logic. With the AStar, I read that he pushed everything up to the stops and they stayed there for the whole routine. He'd get so low on his high-speed passes I was just waiting to hear those props hit the asphalt. It was a great show, much like this Baron. I had the good fortune to get a few hundred hours in a 601P AStar. Loved every minute of it.

Bob's routeen was to take off, shut his engines down, do his flight and land, deadstick, and stop in the same spot he started from. I was AMAZED the first time I saw him do it! His comment was there would be less crashes if pilots knew what their plane was capable of.

Reminds me of the Gimli Glider episode. That Captain flew a 767 onto a postage stamp of a strip using nothing but skill and a knowledge of gliders. The Gimli strip was (at the time of the landing) littered with all sorts of obstructions for a drag race set up. There were no injuries other than to people who used the aft exits. The landing feat could not be duplicated by anyone in the sim. All said and done it was nothing short of miraculous.

airailimages OSH has the worst announcers. It doesn’t bother me when they are talking about a newer aircraft or it’s a little aerobatic type, but I would be happy if they would just keep quiet when any vintage or warbirds is flying past. Their guys never stop talking. I’m glad not all Air shows are that inconsiderate. I would think most people come there to see and HEAR the vintage engines. And if the talking isn’t bad enough, this year They play that siren the entire time the warbirds flew along with the talking. What a mess. It cost a ton of money to go there. I want to hear aircraft! LOL. At least the speakers are behind you there, not in front
