Oh my god I have been looking for a video about this!! I read this book and the series so often as a little kid, and as an adult I went and sought out a copy with the original cover I had known to read and keep. It holds up!! I didn't realize how formative it had been for my brain and life choices, but I really think I took it to heart.

OMG! Such an unexpected delight to see this short of you reading The Enchanted Forest Chronicals! Mom introduced me to the series when I was in middle school, but she kept remembering details from the *second* book as that was the one she liked most. The Third book is what my aunt loved more though when she picked up the series to read herself and fell in love with. For me, I'm not sure which is my favorite because I love details from most of the first three. The fourth book though is a strange outlyer and will probably throw you off with the shift of POV vs the rest of the book. It's not a bad book and still delightful within itself but I won't be suprised if you feel the fourth book is the weakest for you as well.

@@LadyKittybug Oh Really?! I didn't know that was the case. That does actually infact explain why it felt so different. My mom, aunt and myself didn't realize there was a fourth until I looked it up and my aunt and I read it together but felt so thrown off the total change from the other three. Thank you for explaining the one burning question that bothered me for so long because no were else actually explained this and the book I got I wasn't able to see where it was published for some reason.

I think books like this are sometimes a lot more enjoyable than new adult today because they’re not bogged down by trying (and 9 times out of 10, imo, failing) to write sex scenes and romantic tension, and by trying to be dark and edgy in general. Because they’re not stuck on trying to do those two things there’s often a better sense of wonder and fun, and even a better exploration of dark themes. Again imo, but I stand by it

It tried to carry her off to feed to her chicks, and it was a self defense reaction with a magical sword. Bird wasn’t expecting a “maiden” to be armed. Kazul, the dragon, would have killed the bird if she hadn’t.
