I’ve been watching you for several years now and although I’m always impressed with you, never as much as I was on this one. Maybe a generational thing (I’m 59) but I regret that I’ve allowed my vehicle maintenance and repairs to most always be done by my husband. I sure admire and respect your many talents. And franks too of course😊

Frank’s snoozy sounds make me feel calm and sleepy. You look so unfazed by all the mechanical maintenance essential for Truck to keep you all safe, in fact you look like you quite enjoy it!! A really interesting insight into the reality of keeping it all going and how you have to just proactively deal with unexpected issues. You are just so chill about it all. Love it! 🏴

Maintenance of the vehicle is the most important thing being able to tackle it on your own saves you so much money. Mold and mildew is the enemy of all time, taking care of it early is key, to having a smaller problem to deal with. Frank just hanging around being his cute self such a sweet boy. You are inspiring Amanda it is impressive how much you can learn with what seems to be fairly ease. I wish I had better retention. Almost 50 and I'm still working on different ways to better my retention. You help me stay positive and motivated to improve myself. My reading has definitely been improving. Hi again!! So hubby is a mould redemption technician and he recommends a product called Benefect which is 100% eco-friendly but kills mould. Also, there is a sponge that boaters use that sits in a container and draws moisture into it to keep boat from getting mouldy in winter. You could get at most Marinas. Hope it all works out!!

Wow, that was a real "good news/bad news" story! So glad it was just an isolated accident and not an urgent rebuild situation. I have a bucket full of those little silicone packets you get in shoe and electronics boxes that I saved over the years. Whenever there is an accidental moisture situation, or wet shoes, I stuff them in every crevice. They can be used over and over again and they really do help dry things out.

Sorry to hear about the water, super unfortunate. I was thinking some small holes drilled through the top of the rear compartments may help to ventilate a bit. At least the iridium plugs should last at least twice as long, money well spent. Much ❤️ to both of you!

So I wanted to share a real handy method for changing spark plugs. When I started my mechanic trade, a good mechanic in the shop showed me how to take a 2-3" long piece of rubber vacuum tubing/hose that would fit snugly over the electrode end of the spark plug. When the plug is in a tight spot and too difficult to hold with your fingers, push the tubing on the spark plug and just use the tubing to guide the plug into the hole and rotate the plug into the threads. A big advantage of this method, besides being able to more easily guide the plug into position, is that it is much less likely to cross thread the plug. You can feel the threads quite well with this method. Hopefully, it will be of help in future tune-ups.

Recently fixed my Toyota Sienna leaky windshield with "Gorilla Tape - Patch and Seal"...a new variant of Gorilla Tape resembling eternabond. I ran a long piece all along the top of my windsheild from the glass to the van roof. It is about 5" wide. Good stuff and really sticky...My windshield is fixed. Might be worth a try if you can locate the ingress point(s). Chris in Victoria. nice see Frank is enjoying spring.

Nice work! Amanda I recently found both rear corners on my g20 van were wet. You have the two red marker lights in both sides. When I removed mine both were half full of water! So I put silicon on them when I put them back on and once the floor was dried out I haven’t had a problem since. You may want to check yours as well.

One of the things I did with the wooden shelving and flooring in my work vans (I owned a Plumbing company in Seattle for many years) was paint them with garage floor epoxy paint. It left a hardened, non-porous finish that was durable, scrubbable and impervious to cleaners and chemicals. The porosity of untreated/unpainted wood makes it a great breeding ground for mold and mildew. Also, I owned a number of vans of the same age and era of yours and it was not uncommon for rain/surface water to splash up and get under the flooring where the bottom edge of the doghouse seals to the floor of the van. Anyhow, I hope you and Frank are doing well.

I've been thinking about doing van life for a couple of years now. I would build out my own van but am not confident about my skills/knowledge in dealing with moisture. It would be different for different areas of the country right? Ohio is humid, the SW is dry, NW moist and wet etc. Don't you have to design your insulation etc. based on how humid it is or isn't?

Yes you need to build according to your location and as I’m based in the PNW I’ve built for maximum moisture.

@@Beverly-e4zif you’re US based, focus on insulation everywhere and double in the ceiling. 2 roof or side vent fans as far apart as reasonable, ie over driver side and most rear passenger side. The interior will be way more comfortable and that setup will work well in the snow and forest and desert. My dream! 😂❤good luck.

Iridium plugs, great choice. Probably never have to replace them again! Also a good idea to label your plug wires with zip ties - 1 tie for cylinder 1, two for cylinder 2, etc. Then you don't have to worry about losing track, and zip ties are typically very heat resistant.
