I'm 19 now and in college so I am allowed to date now, but my parents said to me, "Jas, he must be asian, level-headed, good career path, kind, smart, hardworking etcetc………… but Jas, you can't be too picky." LIKE WHAT IS THIS HYPOCRISY?

@AozoraUltra2006

It is hypocritical of them, but they say these things for you to try to find the person that will be resourceful and dependable. Unless your parents are over 9000 Asian, the only reason why he must be Asian, is so that your parents will be more confident and authoritative with communicating with him. If you find a stand-up guy, no matter what ethnicity, I'm sure your parents will appreciate your future boy the way you do in time. Anybody appreciates a kind, smart, level-headed, and hardworking person...since you are only 19, in college, I do not see the possibility (unless you have a time machine, in which case, let me use it after you) of seeing a person's career path at such an early stage of life. Sure, Steve is taking engineering now, but who knows if Steve will even stick to his program in the near future? Anyways, I'm sure that your parents meant well. Good luck.

yup pretty much xD i'm 20 and i guess if i really wanted to i'd be allowed to date O_o but preferably in one or two years like lol you already planned my love life for me? how considerate and you chose the ethnicity and character traits too that's great guess i'll just have to wait for that perfect guy to magically appear who matches all your standards and whom i also love cause that's just how it goes you plan your life boom everything works out, wait...

No one is perfect; however, no one person is the same. theliangshow is right. Your parents are worried about your future and who will be there to support you as a life long partner. Hahaha, at the end of the day just find someone whom you will accept, cherish, and most importantly someone who will reciprocate those feeling back to you. You know, many individual will encounter life events at different times in their lives, it is from these experiences where we all learn about ourselves. Personality, drive, motivation, ambition. All of those traits seam from these experiences. So, don't focus too much on finding a relationship, just do your best everyday and someone will notice you and you might notice them. Hopefully, someone who can fit most of that super criteria and also understand, care and cherish you. Anyways, you are still young. Go learn, explore, and have fun!! Good Luck!!!

I was never into dating, even though I'm in university now. Yes, I have crushes but nothing more than that. Maybe that is probably why my parents are telling me to find someone. But I just don't feel like I can handle that kind of relationship right now. I mean, it's really up to you. When you know you're ready and your parents are cool with it, maybe it's time. I just have to agree, parents are waaay smarter than you think they are. They know their children more than they know themselves.

My parents, or shall I say, my elders (dad, mom, aunts, grandmother, etc.) always was on my way with whom I should date. My sister's and I were not allowed to date in high school. Period. We were caught anyways. College, they were nosy and wanted to get involved--meeting the girl's parents, knowing her background, etc. And here's the worst. They are the reason why I have a broken relationship with the mother of my son. Solely because they didn't like the girl and it lead to the girl rebelling at them defending herself and our relationship. Stuck in between, I now have to fight for custody over my son. This makes one see that someday, when we become parents ourselves, we will know what to do, to be and to learn where to cross the line. Some parents are more lenient than most but I am one of those unlucky ones. It could be cultural differences, or faith, or personal interests but I do not wish to anyone to be in my situation. Good luck!

I have a new respect for everything Wes has said. Our parents are not automatically our enemies when we want something they might not approve of. When we were kids they would say no to that cookie or can of beer for reasons we may not know yet. Once we get older and that beer or cookie turns into a girl or guy, its almost the same story. Teens should get at the heart of what the parents' point of view is before dismissing them.

You guys misunderstood the question about the "7th grade girl". Senior high does not mean 9th grade up. It means 11th and 12th grade. She was a 9th grader liking a 10th grader.
@jinhk93
10 жыл бұрын
Actually, they had it right. In a lot of places, middle school is referred to as "junior high" and high school is referred to as "senior high." So she was a girl in junior high (middle school) who liked a boy that is about to go to senior high (high school). Plus, it wouldn't make sense for her to write about her worries if the boy was simply moving up a grade. If she was a 9th grader liking a 10th grader, then they would still be in the same school even if the boy moved up to 11th grade, so there would be no reason to "worry" or send the question like she did. I mean, she would still be able to see him and stuff, so why would she send her question?
@nathanhan548
10 жыл бұрын
Where I live, junior high is 9th and 10th grade, while senior high is 11th and 12th grade. So if they were a grade apart, they would be separated in different schools . Also, why would they even mention the question? That's the real question.

I guess it's hard to form a one-fit-all advice. There's so many conditions. And I was about to try describe it in a great detail, but I just deleted it. Let me tell you just this: if someone tells you about necessity of making compromises, tell him to shut up. Because making compromises can make you get along with ANYONE, but not making them will make you get along only with THE ONE. You can either be the consequence of your environment and all that surrounds you, or cause of it. Choose wisely, and don't compromise.

Do what Jenn?* said (forgot who said it so I'm just gonna reference Jenn XD) just introduce her to your parents if you hadn't already. Given that you left the reason why they don't allow you to date during senior high makes it a bit vague, but regardless, show to them that you're mature enough to handle relationships with your significant other whilst balancing it out with your studies because sooner or later, you do have to date.... unless you wanna be alone, which is cool too lol. Hoped that answered your question. :D I wish you the best of luck.

So right now I'm a freshman in high school and I just started dating a sophomore at another high school. We both really like each other and everything's pretty good. However, since we don't see each other often, I don't really know how to cope with this obstacle. I always make an effort to plan dates/hangouts on the weekends, but it's always awkward because my parents don't want me dating. My two siblings know her and both really like and approve of her. How do I move on from here?

Sometimes parents don't tell the reason why they don't allow their children to date but most of the time parents pay a high attention to grades and how are their children doing at school so they basically don't want them to be distracted from schooling because of dating, or even video games & any other kinds of hobbies that their children were into. Just do your best and get all the good grades that you can and tell your girlfriend the same too. I think it's okay to bring her over for after school studies at your house to show that you guys are making efforts for doing good at school. Dating & being in a relationship can be a motivation for being a better person for each other and you guys will learn & grow from it. Prove it to them that you guys can get good grades while having fun and remember this--Work hard, play even HARDER! =D
