That's was the same way when he was with Jerry. He came in from the golf course right before the show. Got a rough idea what Jerry had in mind, they ab-lib most of it. SNL is not exactly the competition. SNL is, by its nature, a comedy experiment. They try a lot of things that don’t work very well but they also do a lot that does work. Dean Martin’s show was in prime time. SNL is late night, with a target audience of young people who couldn’t find anything to do on Saturday night. It doesn’t get any funnier than Tina Fey doing Sarah Palin, and Palin herself liked it so much she hosted the show one night and even performed with Tina. For another example, I defy you to seek out SNL’s spoof commercial for Amazon Echo Silver (it’s here on youtube) and not laugh at it. It’s hilarious!

Foster was my grandad. A little-known fact was that he had such severe dyslexia he couldn’t accept the lead in a movie or anything where he was required to memorize lines. I’ve always wondered, if they’d just told him about the character and let him run with it, they’d have had a smash (pardon the pun-I am my grandfather’s kin, after all 😂) hit on their hands. I’m sure he improved the more times he played this character, but he had an innate sense of timing and delivery, a true gift.

My all time favorite Foster Brooks skit. I'll never tire seeing it again and again or fail to laugh. This is REAL comedy. A bucket full of 4 letter words so-called comedians spew out today is NOT comedy, yet it is allowed and not a skit like this. What is with that? The PC world has lost the plot. Also, Dean Martin was one of the most talented people ever and, though popular as he was, he was never given the accolades he deserved. He did it all - singing, comedy, serious acting, TV, movies, live performances. Very few entertainers can even come close to claiming having done it all like he did.

THEE BEST "drunk" act, EVER. Mr. Brooks was and always will be one of my favorite Comedians, and one of The Greats.

So called comedians of today could stand to learn a lot from these pioneers. Foster Brooks was absolutely in the top 10. I find it amazing how he could do those skits keeping a straight face.

Foster Brooks is a very funny guy. When I was a sophomore in high school, my friend and I were hitching a ride to school when a big blue Cadillac pulled over to give us a ride, and we ran to get in. Much to our surprise, it was Foster Brooks behind the wheel. We told him we were going to school. He asked are you boys going to Flaget and we said yes sir and thanked him. He then entertained us with his wit and in no time we were at school and before we left him he turned in his seat and Lectured us on the dangers of hitching. We thanked and told him how much we enjoyed the ride. Great man😊

I remember howling with laughter when I was a kid watching these skits. Now at 64, I still laugh hysterically when I watch them. Foster was a genius. The man never broke character, even while Dean and the gang were damn near passing out from laughing so hard. R.I.P. Foster Brooks.

I think that comedians nowadays could learn a thing or two by watching this “Dynamic duo” and their stage act. Totally unscripted and off the cuff. Genuine humor. They both will be missed.
