I knew Roger very well. NEVER has anyone made me laugh so hard. AND Yet, He had an extremely sensitive heart. I NOW KNOW the funniest People have the Biggest hearts, i.e., hearts of GOLD. Joan Rivers is another one.

@Allen Elman, you are so fortunate to have known Roger. He is one of the few celebrities I wish I could have met and gotten to know. I'd just love to know what made him tick, and hear some late night stories from him. I was lucky enough to meet and have a chat with Kris Kristofferson before a gig a few years ago but I never had the sense to ask him about Roger. One of my few regrets!

I've read some of the funny things he said and I never forget them. Police Officer: Can I see your driver's license? Roger: Sure. Can I play with your gun? Friend: Did you hear? So-and-so was born again. Roger: That must have been hard on his mother Roger: My education was Korea, Clash of ’52 Any thoughts of writing a book about your friendship with Mr. Miller?

Roger was a natural songwriter with a lot of heart. The fact that he was so popular is a testament to how different the country and the world were back then. The stuff that sells now is heartless and angry. Hopefully that’s changing with younger artists.

Roger Miller was the definition of a "Stinker"! Well - that made 2 of a Kind right there. Had to be one of the best liked guys in the business - was on everyone's friends list - from Waylon, Wille to Dean and Frank - The man has that "Charles Groden look" (slight smile - eyes and mouth - You just know he's been up to no-good) The very kind of man that I was always attracted to - and BFFs w as well - God Bless those Stinkers - Life would have just stale w/o em! ;-)

Well they may look similar but Roger’s schtick at its worst was still a lot funnier than Charlie Grodin at his best haha! Seriously though as many times as I’ve seen Grodin on Johnny Carson, he’s not that funny at least insofar as improv type-of stuff goes..decent actor though sure I’ll give him that.

Easy one! It does in-fact mean syrup. I heard this one all the time growing up. My parents, who were young adults when "Dang Me" was released, said it all the time. So did their friends. All of whom had grown up in East Tennessee during the 50's and 60's. Incidentally, Miller was starting his career out of Nashville in the mid 50's, fresh from the Army and Korea. If I had to venture a guess, I'd wager it was a term Miller picked up from his time living in Tennessee

I met Roger in Nashville when my Uncle, Fred Foster, and I went to a person’s home where musicians occasionally gathered. Roger came in and in the course of conversation said he had recorded a song that day that was going to be a big hit. He said if it wasn’t a hit he was going to pack it up and go to Texas. Someone said get your guitar and sing it for us. He went out to his car, came back with his guitar, sat down and played and sang “King of the Road”. We all applauded. My Uncle Fred turned, looked at me and said “That’s it-the one Roger has been looking for; he won’t be going to Texas”.
