Shot trap with a standard 870 Wingmaster for years. Always got crap from the snobs but then asked if they would put up for $5.00 a bird. I recently retired and after much deliberation and research and testing etc etc, I paid £2,850 for a nearly new Browning 725 Pro Sport Adjustable for Clay shooting. Been to a few clubs and after chatting to a few guys amazing how many have said “what a lovely gun, wish I could afford one” no one has criticised me for not entering with a lower priced gun. I shoot just as good with a basic 525 .... but I just love the Pro Sport 😀. Conclusion ... retired man buys what he wants 😀.

I had a KOFS Sporter but it never really fitted me that well, I now have a 525 Sporter, one is £500 the other is £1500 and I have to say the quality control on the KOFS was much better, Trigger had to be replaced straight out of the box as the gold was flaking, and the inside of the for-end was rough with bits still half stock on. American here. If it's any consolation, we have them here too. As I've accumulated more guns over time for different reasons, I've increasingly tried to incorporate a sense of humility. Because one thing I've learned is that the more I'm exposed to with guns, the more I have to learn. I found this channel along with The Shooting Channel because I had discovered clay shooting a couple years ago when I bought my Stevens Model 320 pump. Not long after I worked with that I decided to get an over/under. I settled on the TriStar Setter LT (I don't know if it's possibly sold in Great Britain under a different name or not). I don't plan to go into competition with it. I've put several hundred rounds through it and had a tremendous amount of fun. That's what I paid for. It's been extremely reliable and I honestly can't recall a single malfunction with it. It's gone BANG every time I pulled the trigger. I even managed to hit a couple clays in the process! 🤣🤣 If I'm a snob it's of the Poor Snob variety. I've had some really good luck with "budget guns". So in that regard maybe I'm a snob in that I feel like I'm getting something over on the guys who spent hundreds or thousands of dollars on higher end guns. Hey, we're all shooting. Isn't that enough?

Excellent video. If you live long enough, you know that the experience is the key. As to the guns themselves, some focus on form, some on function, probably the majority of us on a blend, with reliability being essential. I believe I have experienced a gun snob just recently. At the end of February 2022 I was in the market for my first over and under shotgun. Mind you it is not my first shotgun. I have owned single barrels, side-by-side doubles, pump action and semi auto guns. I’m in my late 50s now and have been dabbling with clay shooting as well as Upland hunting for most of my life. I have always wanted an over and under, but the timing was never right. I purchased the new for 2022 Browning Hunter Grade 1. This is not only my first over and under shotgun, it’s my first browning as well. I was about to leave the gun shop when a man said “ you spent way too much money on that piece of junk”. He went on to say, if that’s all you can afford you should have bought a Mossberg 500. I would love to see you do a review and give your opinion on the new Browning Hunter Grade 1. I am quite proud to own this particular shotgun. Although it’s going to be hard to leave by first generation Franchi affinity in the gun cabinet. By the way I live in America and of course I am a red white and blue, what some would call redneck. PS I love your channel and watch daily.

I confess that I have fallen into every category of gun snobbery. Owning a Beretta 682 Gold E, I have looked down at Turkish guns, squinted with suspicion at Browning guns, and even silently questioned those who blow extra dough on DT10/11s, as they are just a 682 with extra lipstick and a nice dress. I've smirked with satisfaction, trawling through guntrader to confirm that a) my gun was had at a steal, and b) it sports the prettiest wood in town (for its make and model). As for Baikals.... Actually, I owned one, years ago, and couldn't hit a thing with it. That's because I'm crap at clay shooting, which at least means I'm not a self deluded snob! 😝

The guy (quite often from recent experience, shop owners) who looks down on anyone who's looking for advice or is looking to get into the sport, or doesn't know every bit of lingo. I've never known a sport like shooting where the people who do it, don't seem to want anyone else to do it also. Most other sports are ecstatic that the sport is growing, and people are enjoying it, but not these guys. Having said that my local shop is bob on and the guys there seem to have a genuine love for the sport and helping folk out. It's very easy to be put off something from first experiences of it.

I will never buy a top end gun, be it shotgun or rifle. But I buy known brands that have always performed well. My hunting shotguns for most of the '60s, '70s and '80s were Ithaca Model 37 pumps. My hunting rifles are Remingtons, Rugers and Marlins. They were all great hunting guns, fit me well and performed flawlessly. I was never exposed to high end shotguns until I took up clay shooting when I was 63 years old. That's when I first experienced the gun snobbery. I am a semi-auto shooter, and I've tried various O/U and did not really like shooting them. Plus I know to get a good one is much more expensive than I am willing to spend. So I shoot a Benelli Sport for clays. I have the sporting barrels in both 28" and 30". The gun fits me well, and I shoot it as well as can be expected for someone 72 years old. Averaging about 84/100 on the sporting clays course. However, I hear ad nauseam, you really need an O/U if you want to shoot well. That Benelli is junk, we hate people flinging shells with autoloaders. And so on and so on. This is they type of gun snobbery that needs to stop.

None of the men with whom I shoot would ever be so crass as to make anything but positive comments about someone else's guns. If a guest said something negative or demeaning, he would never be invited again. I remember one man who came out with us one day. He brought a very old Winchester Model 12. Certainly the epitome of functionality. Someone said something to the effect, "Well, here's a man who has seen some great days in the field." He then told us of his grandfather's gun, then his father's first gun and then day his father gave it to him. There were a few moist eyes in the group. We insisted he shoot first. That day I carried a Parker that my father gave me when I was a teen. We could all afford Fabbris or Purdeys but prefer tradition and memories.

On this side of the pond we call brand snobs "fan boys". The biggest example I see of this is the various handgun and AR-15 people. The next group are the caliber snobs in both rifle and handgun. Glock has possibly the biggest number that believe in "Glock perfection". This leads to the Sig, S&W, Springfield, (insert brand) going after the Glock people. There's also the cult of the 1911 which states that all the above "plastic guns" are crap. The AR group and the AK group are just the same as the handgun group. Caliber arguments are as if not more heated than the various firearms especially with the renewed interest in the 9mm vs 40 vs 45 debate. The rifle caliber I see being quite polarizing is the 6.5 Creedmore. The people that like it don't just like it they L I K E IT! and the people that don't spend just as much time running the caliber down. I'm snobbish not as far as the firearm is concerned but in the caliber/gauge end of things. There is 1 gauge and caliber I just don't care for and it's for no logical reason. I don't care for the 20 gauge and the 308 Winchester. They're both great numbers but I DON'T LIKE THEM. Hand me a 16, 28 in a shotgun or a 257, 7mm Mauser, or 30/06 and the opinion changes. Great video!

It has a 12 round capacity, aftermarket night sights, has a rail for a laser or flashlight, an aftermarket trigger, has double strike capability, and is almost a third of the cost of a comparable Glock. It goes bang every time I pull the trigger and I’m very accurate with it. It’s reliable enough that I trust my life so much that both my daughters and my wife own one. All 4 Taurus guns cost just a little more than one comparable Glock. I love Glock guns but cannot justify the price personally. They’re accurate, reliable and are expensive. There's also what I call the 'lada effect'. Lada did extremly well in customer reviews for their cheap and basic cars, scoring higher than Mercedes etc. The 'lada effect' in my opnion is those buyers didn't have high expectations and when there was a problem wouldn't admit it to avoid the 'I told you so brigade'. Where as Mercedes buyers have very high expectations and are more easily disappointed.

I really really think there's WAY more gun snobs that own cheap guns. They are always complaining about others spending too much and how they can hit just as good with their Remington 870 that only cost them 400 bucks. They really get jealous. The guys with the expensive guns just don't give a shit and therefore keep quiet.

As a semi auto user I get all sorts of comments about how useless or unreliable they are, which in my experience is not true. I have a beautiful Benelli Raffaello 50th anniversary model which does generally get some nice remarks ☺ but my SBE2 in Max5 seems to wind people up, especially at clay grounds! I enjoy using an O/U on occasion but prefer the autos. So UK people, stop being anti auto gun snobs please!!!!!! 😁
@orion7873

Totally agree... I have a Benelli Performance Shop Cordoba and friends will say "you need an O/U"... but I shoot better than all of them. It's weird but, I actually want an O/U even though I think my shotgun performs better. It may not last as long as most O/Us but, I only keep guns a couple years anyways.

Are you joking Where did you get this info from? I live and shoot in the UK. I teach with and sometimes shoot with a Remington 1100. I just sold on a really nice 1187. My mate uses a berretta semi auto. At least 20% of the shooters at my club use semi autos. You will see semi autos on any clay shoot you visit. The pheasant brigade get a bit jumpy if you turn up with a semi auto but I have done it in the past just to wind them up. you can see them nudging one another and mumbling under their breath but no one actually says anything to you Ha Ha great fun. Its also a much easier gun to use in a pigeon hide than a break barrel gun. I like to re-educate those shooters who show any signs of being anti by letting them have a go this usually changes their mind

As I work close to the gun industry, I can relate myself in the last category. In addition to this, many "gun shop snobs" base part of their opinion on guns on other people and companies in the industry. Some are easy to work with, others not.

I tried a Browning one, and found that I needed to equip both my Beretta's with Adjustable Comb Stocks. Because I shot that old loose Browning much better than my Beretta's. BTW, still have that Browning because it is a wonderful shooter.

In my experience the worst kind of snobbery I have come across is those that look down on pump action (eg "I'd never use a pump, I'm not a gangster")... Yes you cant take pumps/semis to most shoots but I don't personally enjoy driven shoots and prefer the freedom of a day on the pigeons or a walkabout for pest control, so it doesnt matter to me what type of gun you have as long as you can use it ;)

My policy is to never tell anyone their gun sucks as long as they shoot well with it. There's no reason to put that nagging feeling in the back of someone's head that they'll be held back by the gun they have because it will make them shoot worse. I have one friend whose gun I hate, but I don't tell him that because he loves the gun, and has a lot of confidence in it. If he started doubting his gun his shooting would get worse.

The classic I've seen is on a clay ground the cocky clay shooting instructor decided to show off in front of the group he was taking round the grounds ..... by trying to embarrass me staying my stance was horrific and do I know what I'm doing . My semi auto decided to jam to which he replied that's what you get with a hatsan and laughed so I said ...... yeah you pull the trigger and it goes bang what more do you want ..and released two clay at the same time and got them with one shot!!! total fluke but he soon shut up and I just said to him in front of his group Maybe I could give you lesson on not being a bell end in exchange for lessons and walked off ...every one was laughing

I've seen many a 100 straight shot in trap by old timers with an old model 12 Winchester or 870 Remington that had definitely seen better days. Shooters in general, tend to turn the shooting sports into a money game, but the clay target refuses to care what kind of gun launched a load of shot at it.

Agreed. There's an old saying that goes something to the effect of: "Beware the man who only owns 1 old, worn gun; for it is likely that he shoots it Very Well.".
