And that's what Hamilton (the musical) was brilliant at doing, the double meanings throughout the story, just look at the end of "Alexander Hamilton", Mulligan and Lafayette fought along side him, but Jefferson and Madison fought against him, so the line "we fought with him" fits both of the dual casting, same with Laurens and Philip with the line "me, I died for him" and the line "me, I loved him" from Peggy along side Eliza and Angelica, and Maria Renolds. Dual meaning fueled Hamilton.

@tylerrussellmusic1562
2 жыл бұрын
@@soulfur1031 are you trying to correct my spelling??? If so you will find that dual, with an a, means 2 like a dual carriageway in the UK. And duel, with an e, means a contest between 2 people, normally with pistols, revolvers or swords, and normal ends with the death of one of the participants. If you were however making a dual/duel pun, that was a good pun (honestly I can't tell if you were making a pun or trying to "incorrect me")

The line “you’ll blow us all away” is one of many in Hamilton that have a double or even triple meaning - Hamilton’s son is “blown away” in a duel, which basically sent Hamilton over the edge, and Theodosia died tragically young in a ship lost at sea during a terrible storm (“blown away”). It’s genius and it makes me cry every single time. So much hope here yet “death doesn’t discriminate between the sinners and the saints”

I don't know about other people, but this is truly one of my favourite pieces from the musical. Not only is it musically beautiful and delicate - reflecting the fragility of a small child, and the lives of every one of us -, but it shows this intimate connection between two people who are almost enemies. This bond of love. How both had similar experiences of their father not "being around" (1:57), and both are willing to commit to their children. Of course, later, we see a downfall in Hamilton and Burr as their ambition and pride (respectively) take over (something that reminded me a bit of Macbeth's downfall, and interestingly enough Macbeth is referenced in Hamilton, but that's another story). But this piece is so well placed as a reminder of the true human-ness (if that's a word haha) and raw reality of life. Though in this musical we see multiple lives taken (death) - as Burr says earlier, life doesn't discriminate...it takes and it takes, and we even see in the following song regarding Laurens. But here, in this moment, life is given and brought by God's hands into this world. It also is a reminder as to why these people are fighting, not just for the lives of those in their country, but now for their own families. Just me rambling on but anyway :)

I absolutely love this song not just for the lyrics and the way their voices compliment each other, but also the way the scene was set. They’re singing about their future children and hence, the future generations to come. They’re sitting as if having an earnest conversation with the audience like hey, we’ll do our best so you guys have a better life and we know you’ll all be fine one day. I love it!!! ✨✨✨❤️❤️

Dear Theodosia, what to say to you? You have my eyes, you have your mother's name When you came into the world, you cried And it broke my heart I'm dedicating every day to you Domestic life was never quite my style When you smile, you knock me out, I fall apart And I thought I was so smart You will come of age with our young nation We'll bleed and fight for you We'll make it right for you If we lay a strong enough foundation We'll pass it on to you, we'll give the world to you And you'll blow us all away Someday, someday Yeah, you'll blow us all away Someday, someday Oh Philip, when you smile I am undone My son, look at my son Pride is not the word I'm looking for There is so much more inside me now Oh Philip, you outshine the morning sun My son When you smile, I fall apart And I thought I was so smart My father wasn't around (My father wasn't around) I swear that I'll be around for you I'll do whatever it takes (I'll make a million mistakes) I'll make the world safe and sound for you Will come of age with our young nation We'll bleed and fight for you We'll make it right for you If we lay a strong enough foundation We'll pass it on to you, we'll give the world to you And you'll blow us all away Someday, someday Yeah, you'll blow us all away Someday, someday

Dear Theodosia is the only song in Hamilton that makes me cry, when Leslie sings the “I’ll make a million mistakes” I immediately think of MY Dad, and how great he’s been, and how much he’s done.

Honestly when I listen to this, it also is accurate how John Adams also became a father. His first child Abigail Jr. (1765-1813) had her father’s blue eyes and face. She was also named for her mother but was often called Nabby ever since she was a baby. Dear Abigail what to say to you You have my eyes you have your mother’s name
