Death by Chocolate Cake
Chocolate Syrup:
Ingredients:
1/8 cup water (30g)
1/8 cup granulated sugar (25g)
1/2 Tbsp dark baking cocoa powder (2.5g)
Instructions:
In a small bowl combine the water, sugar, and cocoa powder. This is your quick and simple chocolate syrup.
Moist Chocolate Cake:
Ingredients:
1/2 cup all-purpose flour (65g)
1/2 cup granulated sugar (100g)
3 tablespoons dark cocoa powder, sifted (30g)
1/2 tsp baking powder (2g)
1/4 tsp baking soda
A pinch of salt
1/4 cup warm water (60g)
1/4 cup sour creaml, room temperature (63.75g)
2 tablespoons vegetable oil (27.5g)
1 small egg, room temperature (40g) - optional
Instructions:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a small cake pan (4-inch or similar size).
In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, coffee powder and salt.
Add the warm water, sour cream, vegetable oil, egg and vanilla extract. Mix until well combined.
Pour the batter into the greased cake pan.
Bake for about 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Let the cake cool before frosting.
Chocolate Buttercream Frosting:
Ingredients:
1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, room temperature (108.5g)
1/4 cup dark baking cocoa, sifted (20g)
1/4 tsp vanilla extract (1g)
A pinch of salt
1 1/4 cups powdered sugar (156.25g)
1/3 cup heavy cream, room temperature (90g)
1/3 cup dark chocolate chips, melted and cooled (57.5g)
Instructions:
In a bowl, beat the butter until creamy.
Add the cocoa powder, vanilla extract, and salt. Mix until well combined.
