A couple of weeks ago I decided to listen to the album again. And I can say that it's awesome. Yes, the sound is fucked up, but the riffs sound cool, one of the strongest riffs in general. James' vocals are just on fire. And Kirk's solos are awesome. The minus of the album is too over did songs. But still the album is very cool

I love Death Magnetic, it came out around the time I was first discovering metal. The day the album came out I went to my local music store to buy the CD with my own money from my first job that I recently started. My family didn't own a stereo so I had to play it on our PS2 and listen to it through the TV speakers. It was awesome listening to it on repeat and soaking in those crazy riffs and solos. The Guitar Hero version of the album isn't super loud like the retail version. I always recommend listening to the GH version. It's like listening to the album for the first time again.

Man, it's weird how two people can have the same life experiences. I too was a budding metal head around that time, like 9 or 10 years old and when DM dropped my dad bought it day one. Overall I think Death magnetic definitely is a return back to the thrash style. I agree it's a combination of Kill 'Em All , Ride, Master, and Justice. However, some songs are just a little too long. For example, My apocalypse could have been a really great song, but there is just too much riffs, vocals, into that specific song. Also it's so unfortunate that a band like Metallica being one of the most financially successful bands has had a really amazing sounding album like the black album and then a really bad sounding album like death magnetic. If death magnetic had a better sound quality to the album, I think the album would have been liked more. There is some really good songs like cyanide, unforgiven three, the Judas kiss, and some really good riffs in the other songs. It was definitely a needed album for Metallica's career to to look and explore back through the first four albums of their career.

Death Magnetic to me is can be summed up as pure, honest effort. A band, post identity crisis, trying _hard_ to rediscover themselves. However, because of this hard effort, it also to me comes across as forced at times, as though they still trying to be the Metallica of old but the mold just didn't fit. To me, Hardwired was everything they wanted DM to be. They'd been exploring their legacy for the previous 10 years, come to terms with it and internalized it. It's far more comfortable, assured in it's sound. DM to me is: "Let's try to be the old Metallica" while HWTSD is: ""We *are* Metallica." and doesn't try to be anything else than that.

Hardwired is such a massive disappointment of an album. It feels rushed and too safe. There's no songs on the album that make me pause and think "hmm, I might have a new song to place in my top ten Metallica songs" (Spit out the Bone came close, but it stood out mostly because the rest of the album was just okay). Hardwired should have been touched up Presidio material, because that would have been a stand out album. Hardwired is easily the worst mainline Metallica album, being a largely forgettable album that felt more like an obligation to release rather than a genuine creative effort.

I've been listening to Metallica for 25 years, Load was the first album I got for Christmas when I was 12. I love everything they've done, I don't judge one album from the other, because it's there music not mine, as a Musician myself I understand this. Death Magnetic wasn't actually over compressed, it's just recorded at high volume/live show volume, which was the main thing Rick wanted them to do, is create a live sound in the studio, that means using no reverb. If you listen to Magnetic, versus listening Anthrax's "Worship Music" you can hear a clear difference in how much louder Magnetic is. Hardwired is probably the best album they've ever made sonically, it's heavy, fat, chunky, has tons of low-end and mids, and it's also impeccably clear. The sad part is that Kirk didn't really show up for about 9 of the 12 song's. Otherwise, the riffage, tone, vocals, all around sound is finally tight with a killer bottom-end. Take care man. Metal Is Life!🤘🏻🤘🏻

DM was almost brandnew when I got into Metallica. Maybe that makes me biased, but I'm not nearly as critical of the album as I've see you and a couple of others in the Metallica YT sphere be (StateOfMercury comes to mind). There are a few songs on there that I never listen to that often, but that also applies to half of AJFA and Kill 'em All. And I never minded the often criticized audio quality. It's not perfect by any means, but, to me, it is a great album that I'd put up against the Black Album.

Metallica during this era (2008-2011) felt like /METALLICA\ from 1988 just brought to modern time without any of the experimentation they did. It felt like a continuation of that. And after seeing the band 3 times previously in 2000, 2003, and 2004, this finally felt like seeing the legendary /METALLICA\ in concert. They felt rejuvenated and revived. It was an excellent time to be a fan and Death Magnetic is a great comeback album, it just needs a remixing and remastering so badly. The songs themselves were incredible to hear live though.

Man, I really think DM is one of their best. I just bought the cd to put in my car and at first, I didn’t like it at all. A few months later I was hooked on the song “All nightmare long” then I listened to “Unforgiven III”. That solo is still the best I’ve ever heard and is my favorite of all time. The rest of the songs fell into place. The only complaints I have about the album was the suppressed bass, it wasn’t the best sound quality, and I feel that SaR went on for a little to long. I feel like they could have cut it short a riff cycle or two.

The first time I heard One I was ten years old and had stayed up late to watch Headbanger's Ball. Up until that point I'd been into what's now called hair metal, but One was something totally different. When I got my hands on Justice I was utterly hooked. Of course I got the other three albums and eagerly awaited the Black album. When I got it I liked it but it felt as if it were missing something. By the time Load came out I didn't even bother because I knew they had abandoned the sound that got me listening to them in the first place. So when Death Magnetic was getting such high praise I was really excited for my first listen. A few songs in I was disappointed once again. I just don't get what the fuss is about. I guess it's better than all the crap they put out with Bob Rock, a man I now have an undying hatred of for helping to ruin what was my favorite band. Just because it's not terrible doesn't make it great. It's still missing whatever magic they had in the 80s. I know Puppets is supposed to be their best but Justice has always been my favorite and when you hold up Magnetic against it they're not even close to being in the same league. "Do you want them to keep making the same album over and over again?" Well, kinda. Justice sounded angry. It was aggressive. It was heavy and contains the best riffs they ever wrote. Magnetic isn't any of those things.

Just too loud, but I'm not gonna lie death magnetic was my first Metallica album, I heard it a lot and then found other albums and realised why was death magnetic so fing loud!

Standard tuning was used on the last two Metallica ALBUMS but they tuned down to E flat for the live tours of those albums; something Metallica had done since 1995. However: Death Magnetic was the best Metallica album since A.J.F.A. but the CD version was too compressed by being too loud; the guitar hero version sounds better. My favourite Metallica albums (in chronological order) are MOP; AJFA; DM and Hardwired. (I wouldn't say that palm muting sounds best in E but I would say that if the sound is engineered and produced properly there's no need for tuning down.) Yet: whilst they recorded at standard tuning, thy'd still tour the album a with everything a semitone lower. I can understand why; Jame's aging voice. Besides: he couldn't sing well until the Black album and screaming the 1st three albums at original pitch could be damaging to his voice. REMEMBER: The Unforgiven III used autotune for the high B natural on the "ME!" of "forgive me!" Autotune sounds obvious to me when I hear it; I cannot speak for anyone else.

The greatest tragedy of the production on Death Magnetic is the autotune on The Unforgiven III - for me, it makes the album version unlistenable

Death Magnetic was a near-perfect album for me, minus the last three tracks. They're not quite up to snuff with the rest. I'd take any of the four tracks from Beyond Magnetic over those. Suicide is good, but just too damned long. I wish they played this stuff live. Great music and it worked really well live.

Really don't get why you always hate on End of the Line so much. Imho, it's one of the four 10/10 songs on the album (the others being Life, BBS & Nightmare). Sure, it has many different riffs, but I think it flows nicely. The New Song intro kicks ass, I love the acoustic interlude, and the verse is one of the best they've done on recent albums (was gonna write 'recent years', but that'd just be Hardwired *lol*). I mean, how can you not love dynamic in James accentuation there? It's like Creeping Death and the middle section of Blackened had a child :D
