This song is about the music industry and the negativity she had experienced throughout her career. She has spoke openly about how, as a strong woman, she was treated like she was weak and could be pushed around. This forced her to change her sound just about every album and has hardened her and made her stronger. I think this song is also a middle finger to Scott (her previous manager) and Scooter (who purchased her whole catalog), because they thought they could control her. They found out the hard way that this isn’t possible. She just re-recorded all the albums that contained any material that they owned and basically made that music have no monetary value. I love the reference to the circus. Many years ago they used to remove the teeth of circus animals to make them unable to harm anyone, but over time these animals became aggressive in other ways. Removing their defense mechanism just made them angry. That’s basically the story of Taylor. She was tame and gentle until she was forced to fight back, then she showed the power she had.

There is no "typical" Taylor sound she changes with almost every album release. I second the pause before commenting suggestion a) because Swifties don't like it when you talk over lyrics and b) it's harder to understand everything you're saying with the track playing underneath and I think your opinions were interesting. My go to recommendation is her NPR Tiny Desk concert to showcase her + instrument. Also, if they like you, some Swifties will absolutely join Patreon or whatever pay system you have going on to jump their song requests to the front of the line.

The thing with Taylor is what Taylor wants she gets. She’s a tremendously creative person and she knows exactly how she wants something to sound and the message she wants to send. She’s country, emo, rock and pop. Do NOT make the mistake of boxing her in.

One thing that I think is almost unique with Taylor is the importance of her lyrics. I would say that the lyrics are 70% prove to of her songs. She is a master lyricist. And every song is a story. She often uses the music to enhance the lyric or the feelings she want to portray. She writes all her own music. So if you’re going to continue to do Taylor reactions you need to listen to the lyrics. So try to speak while you pause, and go back 5 second when you start up again after a pause. Swiftie’s have no problem whit longer videos. So you don’t have to rush through a reaction. It was great that you had pulled up the lyrics! Keep doing that The Taylor rabbit-hole is amazing. To understand Taylor's discography you have to listen closely to her lyrics. She writes all of the lyrics and the melodies. She also plays guitar and piano while performing her songs on stage. The production on her songs is top notch but it's her lyrics that have made her a worldwide phenomenon. The fun part is trying to understand what she's talking about especially when she uses metaphors. Most of the time you know exactly what she's saying especially after you have listened to it a few times. And of course, we will help you in the comments if you want to know more about what she's saying. I would suggest talking less while you're listening because you will miss some of the meaning of the lyrics when you talk over it. Having the lyrics on the screen for your listeners is also a nice thing to do so they understand her lyrics better. I enjoyed your video and point of view. I hope to see more Taylor reactions and I will subscribe.

I’m not sure why so many people said this song is about the music industry. If you watch her live performance of it from the Eras tour, she’s levitating around the stage like a witch. Pretty sure it’s a savage clap back at all the Evangelicals calling her a witch who has enslaved their children by spell casting during the Eras and Reputation tour. You totally should look up the Satanic Panic around Taylor, it is metal itself. They’re all freaked out because of her beautiful Willow music video and live performance that is basically hobbit cosplay, and the live performance of I Did Something Bad where her dancers carry her around with flames behind her while she sings about being burnt at the stake. The whole thing last week and about the Chiefs kicker commencement speech calling her his teammate’s girlfriend instead of using her name…these preachers are so pissed off she is an influential, powerful, unmarried, billionaire woman their kids admire that they keep telling Taylor to get married and get back in the kitchen. If you do want a great song about the music industry and Scott, watch the live performance from Eras of My Tears Ricochet. Gorgeous song, and the staging with carrying the casket and the backdrop of battleships really gets at the betrayal of a business relationship that was like family until he stole from her.

Yes this is typical of Taylor Swift music, well kinda. Her emphasis and draw has always been on her lyrics so the production is typically toned down as to not draw away from the lyrics. There are exceptions to this, 1989 and reputation were very producton heavy. Most of her her earlier (country) work was with the same producer and the production is very light. In her album folklore, she started working with Aaron Dessner as a producer which is when/where the more alternative elements came into her music. Since then the lighter background with lyrical focus has been more common in her music...again. Worth saying to any newbie, all of her album Speak Now is is written by Taylor herself with no cowriters. This song as well was written just by Taylor. Before anything else, she is a master lyricist and writer.

There’s definitely too much pausing in the song before you can get a feel of what the song is about. You’re listening more to the music than the lyrics. Taylor’s lyrics are what is what matters the most. “Talking about a normal person….. maybe??” You’re talking over her and not able to hear half of the lyrics. 🙈 Try to read the lyrics before listening to the song. Maybe that will help you? I can’t give song suggestions because they’re all too hard to understand without hearing the lyrics. She’s a poetic lyricist who sings and looks like a badass. Her live performances are always amazing.
