Fernando Aguirre that's actually what I figured. L would never kill a suspect, unless it was self defence, even if he knew they were guilty. Also, L personally saw when he was chasing Light that Kira has become a god of sorts, and there would be riots if they tried charging Light. With Watari dead and him defeated, I feel like L would write his own name as a final act of defiance.

I'm fairly sure that L didn't write down Light's name - yet. L has to find out much more about the mechanics of the killings, and it would be foolish to kill his only source of information. Also, the sheet with the names of the FBI agents was in Mia's possession and has been written down by her. Therefore it wasn't Light's handwriting. L might conclude that Mia was the real head of KIRA. Also, the killings continued while Light was in a coma. Because of these facts L cannot be sure that Light is solely responsible for the killings. L will keep the page and continue to investigate the nature of the killings.

@DoloresVillatoro-ho5jg

I had to watch the movie again and forgot how good it was. I don't think L wrote Lights name on the page because it was Mia who had the agents killed, not Light. If L really was some hotshot super-detective, he would have known it was in Mia's handwriting, not Lights, and it was in her possession after all which is why L stopped. We then see Ryuk laughing because how close Light came to being killed himself at the hand of L, not to mention at what Light did to avoid death, and all he sacrificed to survive and to try to make it right. Mia was power hungry and was getting innocent people killed. L's friend and mentor would have still been alive had Mia not have taken the page but in doing so, still had the one name that Light was able to erase ultimately at the end, which was his own name. I thought this was a great movie and I loved the soundtrack, such an 80's feel to it. I really hope there is a part II someday.

There's a duality. First, note that as you yourself state "I love the anime, but really “Light turner” wtf soo disappointing". Even the smallest change, even changing the name so that a LIVE-ACTION NON-JAPANESE PERSON HAS A REAL-LIFE NON-JAPANESE NAME is enough to ruin the endeavor. It doesn't matter if they only call him his full name a couple times, that they dared change a single name is unforgivable. ----- What I found helped me appreciate the film is accepting beforehand that movies are not manga or serialized anime. There's no break between episodes where a week can pass unattended, or any sort of time-jump between adjacent chapters. The movie has to tell a relatively-consistent series of events without detracting strongly from the core narrative, it needs a faster pace than an anime or manga. This is why the "48-hour control" limit was put on in the movie. In the manga and anime and Japanese movies, a person can control someone for four weeks. Light is further able to spend a few chapters/episodes experimenting on how to get the most of the killings before L comes onto the scene. If movie-Light was able to control someone over even a week, he could have written Watari's name into the Death Note and gotten L's true name without any worries. It wouldn't have even been suspicious for Watari to go investigate, since he wouldn't have the time-crunch to get the name immediately...so he tells L that he has something to do, and gets Light the name.

Also, since the killings continued while Light was in a coma, L can't even be sure that Light is really behind all killings. It would be foolish to kill Light before L can find out more. From what i gather from the ending is that L stops laughing before righting down a name. As if he realizes that Mai was Kira all along. Since she is the one with a deathnote page in her calculus book. L loops pretty surprised as well. Maybe light had an other plan how to get to L's real name and gave with a heart attack right before he could right it down.

Ace it's a time restraints. I think the movie could have used another 20-30 minutes. I think you're just suppose to know he's smart. You get a very simplistic idea that he is in the beginning, but pushing that idea further makes no sense cause he "smart". Maybe have a scene where he does something similar, but just going off what we got felt ok, didn't really question it.
@bookofficialchu6237
7 жыл бұрын
definitely, theres a lot of montage in the first act that really doesn't do anything to build his character concretely. But you look at his final plan and you're like "ok it's all intricate and it has many complex elements playing together" so it "looks" smart. But I could poke wholes into it, like the writer was like "how is the book retrieved? mind control. How is he in a coma? mind control. How does he burn the page? he plans it to fall in the fire?" its all opinions of course, but that to me made it so the "victory" wasn't really earned for the character. Don't you think?

In my opinon, L did not write Lights name on the page he found on the calculus book. He seems to be ready to write it down when he sees the pic of Light and Mia. Then he laughs and points the pen on the page, a second look on the picture of the two kira, he stops and looks slowly down as if mentaly saying; " If i kill Light, ill have revenge. But if i do kill him... Then ill just be bad as him." So to me, he didnt write the name, that would make it too obvious that he would for revenge.

He's not even the same L. L in the anime's real name is L. Lawliet and the L in the Netflix real name is Leben Dorn. If you don't believe me look it up.

My theory is that the sequel will begin in the same scene. L hesitated on putting Lights name on the sheet. I theorize that he won't put Lights' name on the paper, but his dad's instead. The entire sequel will focus on Light finding out L's true identity and take revenge on L killing his father.
@martinkolakowski2888
6 жыл бұрын
Silly theory really seeing as how L knows that Light is Kira and now James also knows that Light is Kira. L has no reason to put James name on the page. The only thing he could do is try to prove that Light is Kira with the page but seeing as how it's Mia's room he broke into, Light could just say that it proves that Mia was Kira and Light could just kill his own dad or in this one, maybe his dad would hide the fact that Light is Kira? I don't know. Maybe in this one L will kill Light's dad. The Netflix death note is very inconsistent when it translates the characters from manga/anime over to the Netflix movie so L and Light aren't the same and Soichiro is definitely not the same either. It's no telling what they will do and what they will do to fix the travesty of the first movie.

I mean, the Death Note special for the anime summarised the entire first arc into 2 hours, and the second arc in a second special. Summarising the entirety of Death Note in 2 hours seems very doable, or at least the majority of the important information of L and Light's clash, and it had already been done incredibly well. Also, was there a reason the location setting and story was changed so much from the original? Hell, even Light's name was changed from 'Yagami' to 'Turner'.

The movie was suppose to be a battle of wits between sociopathic investigator and a psychopathic vigilante. Instead they're both pussified versions of the actual characters. Light never turned into Kira, they pretty much made Misa Kira instead and made L feel too much empathy for Watari. L would grief, but not in this way, and definitely not in the way were his emotions take over his rationale thinking. How can a battle of wits be validated if they made both these characters ruled by their emotions and easily influenced by others? Lame. and if anything deserves the 1 star, and 0/10, because this movie said it was Death Note and it was not Death note. There was no twist, it was a complete deformity of what the original source is.

Because it's too easy to write Light's name down. That's not how L ever wanted to do things, he's a mastermind, and meeting light, who is also a mastermind, creates a huge wave of curiosity. I agree he wrote the dad's name down, because L's closest father figure was killed, and he wishes to inflict the same grief. Especially because Light doesn't know L's name yet, it gives L quite a large "power field" to play in for a short while. It's a sociopathic kinda of get up. pretty common sense though.

Jevan Red The movie is pretty terrible, not solely because the movie can't stack up to the brilliance of the source material but also because the respect of the source material definitely wasn't there. The script writers didn't seem to have watched the live action movie or the mini series to get a vibe/atmosphere of how to pack such a complexed story into a small window of time. The punch of a criminal dying is more significant in Japan, because many natives regard crimes to be too lightly punished IF punished at all. The movie had to ofc be adapted to Netflix's American dominant audience so the core ideas could still be successfully translated. But the movie wasn't even "pretty good" because did the movie make smart moves to use the same tactics that drew people in from the first episode? HARDLY. They could have changed all the characters for all I care but deliver the WOW effect that the original had. Some things they should have kept the same are the fact that Ryuk is a neutral character (he's a mere bystander that will only help Light only to help for apple$), L's strong trait is his ability to act in a moments notice (source: Death note: How to read), not solely based on his ability to "observe" and Light's personal journey that isn't dragged along by Cheerleader #1 (Ugh I would have prefered Misa because Misa character made sense and had way more purpose!). Ok long story short what made death note so fantastic was how the protagonist and antagonist played off each other. A prime example is The dark knight trilogy. My rant is over now... child you may come out from under the bed!

@@nessyness5447 but that's the thing. According to the movie's established rules, if Mia didn't take the note, Light would have been able to burn the page, saving her once she proved that she loved him, and not the power of the book. But because she took it, a different page was burnt, the one which has Light's name on it. But since she took the book, it became impossible for Light to burn the page, sealing her fate. Wait...L has no idea about the DN, finds a random page between other books with the names of his dead FBI agents on it and concludes that by writing down their names, they got killed? Just because Light told him that a Calculus book can kill? oO Can someone explain that logic to me? What kind of supernatural super detective is L to have figured that out without knowing of the existance and the function of the Death Note?? That confuses me to no end. xDDD

Nayeli DeathKnight and saw a page that said light turner heart attack that got burned wich explained lights hysterical behavior earlier that plus the whole "needs a name" thing that he does know all the evidence suggests the note can somehow kill you

brian brush I mean I think that L would be thinking that Mia was Kira all along and Light was just her boyfriend who got roped into it and screwed over because she killed the FBI agents and he saw her put his name in the book so in reality he would think she was the main villain all along

I recommend you rewatch the scene in which L breaks in the house to get the Death Note page from the calculus book. He did NOT know about the Death Note itself, but he looked through the calculus book for anything out of the ordinary. Then he finds a yellow page completely different from the rest of the book. If you pause at the right moment, you can see that the page not only had the names of the 12 agents, but also an exact description of how they died (all of them walked off a building to their deaths). From that, L realized that, at the very least, one can kill someone by writing their name on the page, and can influence the circumstances of their death through writing as well. From seeing the ripped edge of the page, he would deduce that the page belonged to a notebook.

i think that the movie was wonderful on it's own a few things could have been better but it was much better then i was expecting. The action was exciting and the visuals were gruesome. the fact that light never intentionally killed anyone that didn't at least somewhat deserve it was an interesting change in my opinion in that his girlfriend was actually closer to light from the original story when in the end light proved she cared for him but she cared for the power of the book more. She showed her true colors and that meant light had to put hear down so she couldn't continue to kill people like the fbi agents and almost lights father. overall i enjoyed the movie and if they make a sequal i will watch it. HOWEVER the original anime and manga is on a completely different level and is significantly better in almost every way.

I dont get the hate towards this movie. Everyone says the movie is terrible, but why? Just because Light Turner isnt a perfect genius mastermind as Light Yagami? My guess is people's expectations made them unable to accept this as a simple spinoff.

It's probably because they got a white actor to play an originally Japanese character. All the white washing going on in Hollywood when it comes to Asian characters and storylines. It was a bit slow at times and I was annoyed with all the inside your head babble going on in Light's head but it turned out better than I was expecting. I came in with very low expectations and was pleasantly surprised. Not enough interesting characters in the movies or scenes so it boring at times. Also the son and father scenes suck most of time for final scene being the exception. Not enough background info or character development so it's hard to really connect with the characters on a deeper more invested level. Some scenes moved too fast while some were the opposite. The L character was so over the top I couldn't take the movie seriously. His character the way he was protrayed in the movie. He came off as a joke. The main antagonist is what makes the movie and he didn't live up to it so the movie took a nose dive from there. Some scenes were totally unnecessary and didn't help the movie one bit. The father wasn't a good pick and had shitty lines and no chemistry between he characters. Actually none of the actors had chemistry with each other. He was okay but wouldn't have been my choice. All the characters were okay. None were perfect for their respective roles role but light's character was the best actor of the bunch.

It's because Light Turner lacks the charisma that made Light Yagami compelling as Kira. It's because the psychological warfare between Kira and L was downplayed when it was the thing that made Death Note the staple it is. It doesn't matter whether the are cast in different ethnicity to the originals, to me it makes no difference as long as they can make what defines the original characters their own. The movie is good as a stand alone film, but it's a far cry from the thrill it was. Good production or not, the direction they took with the character personalities were jarring when compared to the original.

Even as a stand-alone movie it is bad. I really wanted to like it but i just couldn't. Maby if it wasn't trying to be an action then they would have made it more interesting without making it a direct copy. It can't be called Death Note if its not even in the same genre. it doesn't work

I just want a sequel to happen already. I LOVED this movie, it jumped into an Americanization and it was pretty great to hear William Dafoe as a demon Joker... Again. Though I'll still say that L didn't write his name because he now was trying to come to terms that MAYBE Light wasn't the one, that it WAS Mia.
@RonBest

I think that he also by seeing the complex plan written to get rid of all the FBI agents, he realized the potential of the book, that Light could still have carried out his deeds via similar complex planning as Mia did, just by writing it beforehand. So being in a coma is not a valid alibi when it comes to Kira.

Hear me out, L remembers what Light said, so goes to Mia’s house and finds the page but as he is eager to write Light’s name, he looks at the picture of him & Mia, and realizes it might’ve been Mia the entire time. There has been no way for him to know for sure it was Light. And yeah the deaths kept happening but he also knows that anyone could have a paper and anyone could write a name on it - So therefore did NOT write Lights name down
@nightnight6795

I think L writing Light's name in the book would be too simple for L, it'd make more sense if he writes Lights Father's name in the book, as revenge for Watari's(I think that's how it's spelled) death. Plus, it'd make more sense because Light reveals everything to his Father, making it easier for his character to die off by the hands of L, setting up a sequel where they duke it out mano-a-mano. Which i think is further reinforced by how unhinged L seems now. EDIT: Or he just doesn't write anything, because he'd be just like Light, which seems to make more sense if you look at how he's processing what he could do with it while holding the pen over it.

The first death definitely surprised me since I wasn’t expecting there to be graphic/violent deaths or at least show them. But I loved how some of the deaths, specifically the first one and the guy that killed Light’s mom, had a Final Destination style to them.

I just watched it. And I think it's an eye for an eye with L right at the end. I think that L wrote Lights dad onto the note. If it wasn't for Light, Watari would still be alive, but killing Light is letting him get off easy. But by killing his father, after losing Mia, he'll have to suffer even further.

L Didn't write the name BECAUSE THOSE names were ON MIA'S page in her room. KNOWING now Light wasn't the one who killed his mentor, BUT also since he JUST saw light make an elaborate situation TO stop his name from finishing the curse. Since L didn't get to read the book and rules, he HAS to figure out IF Light's able to do it again. I Loved the Movie, I loved william Dafoe in it, I hate how no one else loved it.
