The movie he is ridiculing in his failed attempt to diminish her is now considered one of the great cult films of all time.....the Director she praises, that he has never heard of, later became one of the leading Directors in Hollywood.....and the important and futuristic subject matter of the movie that she refers to is basically what became the World Wide Web two decades after this interview took place.....quite aside from her stunning beauty and her amazing music it's always struck me that Debbie Harry chooses to work with artists rather than well known celebrities, often collaborating with unknown musicians and up and coming directors instead of using established talent that can enhance her career in the way Madonna always did....she's always been very much ahead of the game, creating something new rather than just reacting to what's already there....the early days of the CBGBs Punk Scene, the first Rap Record to reach a white audience, the work with alternative artists like Andy Warhol and H.R.Giger....the work with new directors like David Cronenberg and Jonas Akerlund, her collaborations with then unknown singers like Shirley Manson and The Dum Dum Girls.....her decision, almost unheard of in show business, to stop working for 3 years to nurse her critically ill boyfriend back to health, the way she changed the rules for women in music in the 1970s and the way she now defies the stigma attached to older artists in music in 2016.....she is as cool as fuck and the real deal....total legend

You're right. She's very intelligent & humble. She would have to be to be able to be so gracious to people who dismiss her as being an airhead. Chris Stein is quite articulate and intelligent himself. Saw the interview of them discussing rap and the popularity of it. It's too bad artists, musicians carry the stigma of being dumb and silly when they are often far from it. Some come across as a tad bit "odd" (and some are high as a kite I'll give you that) but that doesn't mean they're stupid.

Russell Harty should never have been a talk show host, he asked so many stupid questions and never showed his guests any respect. I remember when he was interviewing Grace Jones, she physically attacked Harty over his ridiculous questions and manner. Russell Harty was the late Richard Whiteley's teacher at Giggleswick School in the Yorkshire Dales. Richard was the host of the Channel 4 words and numbers quiz show "Countdown" from 1982 until his death in 2005.

The worst interviewer ever heard. Even worse than another one where all the interviewer asked over and over is who she had and would still like to sleep with. That was bad but this was even worse. How do these interviewers keep from getting fired or hired at all? Beyond me. I believe she has had the worst interviewers I have ever heard. She is so classy and smart, and handles them with grace and ease. Inspiring. I'll try to channel her grace the next time I encounter a rude person. PS) How inappropriate for him- a large man- to arm wrestle her- a small, petite woman. She even handled that as good as any woman could.

+kyle smallwood Grace Jones was drugged up to her eyeballs on the show. Bowie was a very complicated person and was considered a nightmare to most interviewers in the 70s/80s. Debbie has asked Russell to hype the movie up it's good publicity. It got banned not long after in the UK then 6 months later the queues where around the corner for a while. Now it's a cult classic.

Grace Jones was a nightmare but David Bowie was not, IMO. I thought he was very hard and incredibly rude with Bowie unprovoked from the start. Bowie was having none of it and that's when things got really heated but the interviewer started it by being such an ass to him first.
