answer these questions. 1 Is slavery intrinsically immoral according to Islam? if yes than can a modern Muslim be more morally Superior than the prophet Muhammad. 2 In some post-apocalyptic type situation will Islam allow slavery? 3 why not apply the golden rule. lets say you and all the men of your family died in a holy war of some other religion. All the rule and regulation of that religion about slavery are same as Islam. what would you feel if your mom, daughter or sister are taken as slave and treated according to teaching of that religion. They are then sold from one master to another. They are then brought to a land where no one speaks there language but they are treated fairly and no one beats them so hard which leave a mark on their body. All the previous master used contraceptive and your daughter bore a child of her (put any number here)th master after which she became "um ulwald" and her status increased slightly. list goes on and on....... but I think I made my point.

Amr ibn al-Harith, Maymunah's brother narrates: "Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) did not leave a Dinar or a Dirham or a male or a female slave. He left only his white mule on which he used to ride, and his weapons, and a piece of land which he gave in charity for the needy travelers." Well the prophet abolished every form of slavery except POWs; debt slavery, labour slavery, capturing freemen by kidnapping, forced marriages etc, and established laws on how to deal with ppl working under u, ppl indebted to u etc to ensure justice and compassion. Plus Islam sought to eventually end slavery, since zakat(giving charity) is mandatory in Islam and one of its forms is freeing slaves, and thr prophet talks about a time when zakat will no longer be needed(ie. giving charity & freeing slaves is no longer needed) and to do this the Qur'an and the prophet encouraged the freeing of slaves in many ways. To mel think its not immoral to have POWs and treat them like family, which is what Islam required, and then give Muslims the incentive to free them. If u study Islamic history u would know that your statement of slaves having never been treated like family is incorrect, as non muslim historians recognised this. we Muslims do not and have never condoned slavery. By that I mean completely having someone at ur mercy and giving them zero rights and treating them as an object, familiarising them with whips and chains etc... That has never been allowed in Islam. Slavery isn't even called slavery in Islam, the Arabic word for a male slave is 'abd and for a female slave its ama, but the prophet banned using that terminology with the people under ur care, and instead demanded that u call them ur sisters and brothers. He gave them many rights, such as enjoying the luxuries u yourself enjoy, (seem quality clothes u wear, same food u eat etc) and he promoted their education and especially their emancipation, and that was how POWs were treated, since it was the only form of slavery that was allowed in Islam. Overburdening them was strictly forbidden, not to mention laying a finger on them! I don't think educating and taking care of POWs is a heinous crime, do u?

Example Brazilian and Haiti slavery was the worst as they where seen as cattle and forced to work till they died and could not hold position of power . While Byzantine slavery was mostly slaves working in household as the farmers law made slavery ilegal to use for farming and slaves could hold powerful positions like overseer in the master shop heck narces was one of the most powerful men in the empire and wws giving command of an army and he was enuch. The same can be said for the Arab slave trade in it's 1400 long history in some places slaves where treated fairly well while in others they where abused phisicaly, mentality and in the case of mostly girls sexually.

Using exceptions to a rule to discount a rule doesn't make sense. I encourage everyone to exercise. I think most everyone can benefit from at least a little bit of exercise, but what if I come across someone with some kind of heart disease, who can't safely increase their heart rate? Would I tell them to exercise? No, I would tell them to relax and keep their heart rate low (if that's what the doctor recommends for their specific condition of course), this doesn't mean I'm against exercise, or that I'm not an advocate for exercise.

I don't really care what the scriptures say What I care about is what happened and from historical accounts during the time period it's very clear that slaves of all nations were treated terribly. Men who lived as slaves were castrated. Women were raped. Both were beaten. The fact that the scriptures at points say that these acts are forbidden does not matter in the least because historical accounts makes it clear what happened far more than reading the rules that the societies ostensibly followed

If it is permissible for men because there can be high chances of fornication in such situation if it isn't permissible then doesn't the same chances is there when a female have a male slave? Here too both are male and female.. so in such cases do Allah only have mercy for the children of muslim men who are born by his slave that he legalized such relationship so that those children can live normally in society but not the same mercy to the children who are born in such cases to muslim women? Even though most mother can fully take care of her children on her own even if some may need the support of family/society/gevernment as this kind of support system is given in Islam for any woman so that she doesn't need to work, this facility could have been given to such women too yet a separate rule for them..? Is it more important that all children have equal, right treatment or is it more important that although most women can take responsibility of them and their children but to ensure that all women and their children have a male guardian so that she don't need to work throw her children born out of wedlock at more disadvantage, or is it more right that for both men and women it should be haram and if there are children born to ayone out of wedlock their children should be the responsibility of the family or society or government? (most of the muslin don't do fornication because it's haram, right? There are many people, families who are living with their male or female servants under same roofs are they all committing zina..? Or is it haram for them to live under one roof...?) Although this explaination has also been given 23:6 and 23:7 ayahs of Quran refer to both men and women because 'azwaaj'(spouse) and 'ma malakat aymanukum'(right hand possess) refers to both male and female (23:6) even ma malakat aymanukum can be children, so pedophilia in anyway is halal in Islam? And 'whoever' can also be male and female (in 23:7) ('man' also refer to both men and women in Quran if the ayah doesn't state it is referring to men and women separately in Quran according to Arabic language, ( Rest is in the reply ↓ )

I understand Islamic slavery better than other slaveries practiced in past, There are hadiths that encourage freeing slave , I will expect from the prefect man to walk the earth to make it compulsory to free slaves , hence no slavery. Sahih buhari 7:62;132 , can you explain it rather than being so vague.(how did you conclude its talking about the past) According to what I know about Islamic slavery it always encourage some positive stuff when slaves are obedient. Beating is only for disobedient slaves , if it is not can you explain how to deal with a disobedient / rebellious slaves ? I don't support owning people.

i dont see why people cant understand that slavery was literally an essential part of economy back then. so it couldnt have been abolished all together from the start as that would imbalance the system thats why it was restricted to very specific contexts instead. and freeing the slaves was encouraged so they would become free legally without disturbing the economy. how hard is it to understand this. Islam doesnt condone slavery. but it was wise enough to set in restrictions which would eventually lead to abolishment
@ibnsayyad5096

@@darkskull9927 1. Islam is timeless 2. God can do anything(He could have stopped slavery) 3. Although some hadiths encourage freeing salves , not every hadiths support it. that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) was asked about an unmarried slave-girl who committed illegal sexual intercourse. They heard him saying, "Flog her, and if she commits illegal sexual intercourse after that, flog her again, and on the third (or the fourth) offense, sell her." Sahih al-Bukhari 2232, 2233 4. Most scholars still support Islamic slavery and S3x slavery 5. S3x slavery is highly encouraged (even for the married women whose husbands are still alive.) Chapter: Chapter: It is permissible to have intercourse with a female captive after it is established that she is not pregnant, and if she has a husband, then her marriage is annulled when she is captured They took captives (women) on the day of Autas who had their husbands. They were afraid (to have sexual intercourse with them) when this verse was revealed:" And women already married except those whom you right hands posses" (iv. 24) Sahih Muslim 1456d I don't think these sahih hadiths are from perfect man to walk the earth. Muslims tend to justify these acts because deep down inside they know this can not come from god. With or without religion, good people can behave well and bad people can do evil; but for good people to do evil - that takes religion

Islam doesnt condone slavery. but it was wise enough to set in restrictions which would eventually lead to abolishment

Robin Meade Well the prophet abolished every form of slavery except POWs; debt slavery, labour slavery, capturing freemen by kidnapping, forced marriages etc, and established laws on how to deal with ppl working under u, ppl indebted to u etc to ensure justice and compassion.
@Abdullah_tee
Robin Meade My understanding of it is that it wasn't possible for Islam to banish THIS form of slavery at the time, because when I think about it Islam ALREADY BANISHED every other form of slavery: chattle slavery, debt slavery etc which was widely accepted in even the most advanced civilisations of the time, but in a war, because lslam has strict rules when it comes to war and one of them is you cannot harm anyone who is not in the army, there were always people left behind since they didn't use drones or bombs back then. So the best thing to do to ensure the safety of these people is to take them in and instigate them back into society. To me banning POWs would have done more harm then good, because people who have already lost so much would then be left to their own devices, and if u look at the fate of civilians after wWIl, ensuring that no cruelty befalls then by making them the responsibility of the Muslims. The Islamic system, as I mentioned before gave POWs many rights and opportunities, and at the prophet's time many slaves held elite positions in society they were teachers judges etc This is why I think Islam didn't ban POWs, I hope that answered ur question, and also keep in mind that Islam encouraged the freeing of slaves and the Islamic system sought to eventually end slavery Islamic system sought to eventually end slavery altogether, the proof? Well every Muslim is obliged to pay this annual charity, zakat, have u heard of it? Well one of its forms is freeing slaves, and the prophet talked about future times where zakat Would no longer be needed, ie. no more need for charity and no more need for freeing slaves. Also in the Quran Allah says that if a slave requests his freedom then not only areu obliged to grant it, but u also have to give them money, as a headstart in their life.

Slavery was an economic and political institution that existed before Islam. Slaves were considered property and were bought, sold, and captured as merchandise. While complete abolition of slavery was not economically possible at the time, Islam intended to phase out slavery with several methods: by acknowledging the dignity and humanity of slaves, commanding their good treatment, elevating their status in society, bestowing upon them rights, and providing several means to achieve their freedom. In the Quran, Pharaoh is the primary example of a sinful tyrant. One of his greatest sins was enslaving and subjugating the Israelites. Moses said: Is this a favor of which you remind me, that you have enslaved the Children of Israel? Surat Ash-Shu’ara 26:22 And Allah said: قَالَ سَنُقَتِّلُ أَبْنَاءَهُمْ وَنَسْتَحْيِي نِسَاءَهُمْ وَإِنَّا فَوْقَهُمْ قَاهِرُونَ Pharaoh said: We will slaughter their sons and keep their women alive. Indeed, we are subjugating them. Surah Al-A’raf 7:127 And Allah said: فَقَالُوا أَنُؤْمِنُ لِبَشَرَيْنِ مِثْلِنَا وَقَوْمُهُمَا لَنَا عَابِدُونَ They said: Should we believe two men like ourselves while their people are enslaved for us? Surat Al-Muminun 23:47 In another verse, Allah criticized the later generations of Israelites who were guilty of enslaving people in the same way Pharaoh had done to them. Then you are those killing one another and evicting a party of your people from their homes, cooperating against them in sin and aggression. If they come to you as captives, you ransom them although their eviction was forbidden to you. So do you believe in part of the Scripture and disbelieve in part? Surat Al-Baqarah 2:85 The Prophet warned us that Allah will punish those who enslaved free people on the Day of Resurrection, essentially prohibiting the racial slave trade that was fueled by kidnapping. Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: وَرَجُلٌ بَاعَ حُرًّا فَأَكَلَ ثَمَنَهُ Allah will oppose a man who sells a free person and consumes the price. Source: Sahih Bukhari 2114, Grade: Sahih And Umar ibn Al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, famously said: مذ كم تعبدتم الناس وقد ولدتهم أمهاتهم أحراراً Since when did you enslave the people though they were born from their mothers in freedom? Source: Futuh Masr 290 People who were already slaves or were prisoners of war were elevated to the status of servants who enjoyed rights and kind treatment, as if they were part of the master’s family. Ma’rur ibn Suwaid reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Your slaves are your brothers. In Islam, are slaves defined as properties? Is there a surah condemning slavery? Where is the proof that Islam abolished slavery? I can’t find such thing anywhere. All I heard were mere attempts to justify slavery, vain words aiming at assuaging the agony of guilt and calming the anguish of shame, a consciousness carving comfort in delusion and defensive fabrications. Ah, again the irresponsible, self-southing speech: that in Islam slavery was better, the circumstances were more justified, and it goes on and on. But this truth remains: there is nothing in Islam that categorically condemns as immoral the practice of turning another fellow human being as property. There’s no way of justifying owning a person as one owns an object. It doesn’t matter if the treatment was less harsh than somewhere else. The fact that a person is made into someone else’s property and, as a result, is not even free to leave, held captive against his/her will, forced into undesirable labors, for no other reasons than the fact he/she had been legally classified as a piece of property is A GRAVE AND HEINOUS SIN. That’s what slavery is: owning a human being like you own a thing, thereby having the legal right to use, trade, or dispose that person as authorized by the law, and without any consideration whatsoever for the desire or will of the property-person. This defense strategy of downward comparison, a pathetic psychological ploy, clearly exposes a consciousness struggling to take refuge in excuses. One doesn’t need a religion to know right from wrong, a lucid conscience and a sincere mind should suffice.

per soon wa’alaikum-salaam. I am utterly disappointed that you would interpret and present this verse as proof of Islam condemning slavery as immoral. Dissect the verse and see how disrespectful it is of humanity: ... And such of your slaves as seek a writing (of emancipation), give them such writing IF YOU FIND THAT THERE IS GOOD AND HONESTY IN THEM... I will bring to your attention that not only this verse is far from condemning slavery as immoral, it gives the slave master great power over the slave, insofar as the slave master gets to decide if the slave is GOOD enough to emancipate. So the slave’s freedom depends on the master’s discretion and his twisted definition of what “good and honest” are. How could you ever present such verse as a good thing? Did you read the verse critically or you just picked because you’re told to. Quite disappointing! The verse is about managing slaves not the condemnation of slavery as IMMORAL. Do you get that???

You should start by examining Christianity or any other religion that you are following , which actually encourages slavery and encouraged brutality against slaves Matthew 7:3 “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? Luke 12:47 And that servant who knew his master's will but did not get ready or act according to his will, will receive a severe beating. Ephesians 6:5-8 Paul states, “Slaves, be obedient to your human masters with fear and trembling, in sincerity of heart, as to Christ” which is Paul instructing slaves to obey their master Exodus 21:20-21 “When a man strikes his slave, male or female, with a rod and the slave dies under his hand, he shall be avenged. But if the slave survives a day or two, he is not to be avenged, for the slave is his money. Leviticus 25:44-46; Colossians 3:22-25;Leviticus 25:46; 1 Peter 2:18 Servants, be subject to your masters with all respect, not only to the good and gentle but also to the unjust. Exodus 21:7 “When a man sells his daughter as a slave, she shall not go out as the male slaves do. (this one is telling is OK to sell your own daughter as slave) Titus 2:9-10 Slaves are to be submissive to their own masters in everything; they are to be well-pleasing, not argumentative, not pilfering, but showing all good faith, so that in everything they may adorn the doctrine of God our Savior.

@@mrt4362 Ephesians 6:5-8 Paul states, “Slaves, be obedient to your human masters with fear and trembling, in sincerity of heart, as to Christ” which is Paul instructing slaves to obey their master. Similar statements regarding obedient slaves can be found in Colossians 3:22-24, 1 Timothy 6:1-2, and Titus 2:9-10.
