Yes! One of my favorite plant-based decks is Dirt Gems (mass edition), and I wish it had keywords on the cards bc every single time I need to use the guidebook.

Love the Nocturna oracle! And I second everything you said about it. Put useful, intelligent keywords on oracle decks, people! Do I have The Wisdom of The Trees oracle? See, I don't even know, because lack of keywords = lack of use!

I've thought about writing keywords on decks before, but I felt like I needed to practice better handwriting first, and find the perfect type of ink that won't smear or flake off, and then I realize if I'm going to be this fussy about it I'm better off not doing it at all. It would probably go as well as the one time I tried to trim a deck (ruined it) and the time I tried to faux-age one (super ruined it). Anyway I wanted to say I feel the same about the Faeries book, and also those "Singer" cards are basically pointless. At least the Frouds seemed to listen to criticism about the font, as the second Faeries deck had a much more legible one.

So funny, I am, in the main, opposite. Keywords can lock in my focus in an oracle deck which can feel limiting. But other times like you, I'm like, wtf? Your experience of the Kim Krans deck, cracked me up. Those cards are like flash cards, here is a spider, here is a horse. However it is the longest oracle deck I've owned, since 2019 and I love the Animal Spirit oracle, its a forced proximity situation. I have written all over the deck and written observations in the standard sized guidebook. I have given the animals archetype or job titles, such as tarantula is also the cartographer - a map maker, covers terrain through intimate knowledge of the subject. Then I will add that info with with element, fire and then finally what the creator gives the arachid, if I agree with it. But there are better animal decks out there, ones that are helpful in their keywords and not assuming you are stupid. I just can't be bothered to buy another animal deck.

I think you said on another video that you didn't want to do this, but have you tried using reversals with the seed and sickle oracle? I had the same issues you have with it but I tried using the dawn meanings for upright and the dusk meanings for reversed and since I did that it's been a great reader for me.

Have you thought of writing your own keywords on the cards? Dani mystic showed her Kim Krans Archetypes deck, and she wrote keywords around the borders. She went through the guidebook and pulled keywords that resonated with her and wrote them around the borders. I'm going to be doing that with some of my decks to see if it helps.

But what's a good marker/pen that won't smear? I've seen ballpoint on old Lenormand, but cards were less plasticy then... My handwriting sucks, too, but whatever.

My handwriting isn't the best either, but it's a tool for your use. I'm going to try a sharpie fine point retractable. Lisa Papez used it in her Tarot with training wheels course. I don't think I would do this with an indie or an expensive deck., but for mm easily replaceable decks, I think it is worth trying.

@@swamiralf5115 The Sakura "Pen-Touch Calligrapher" markers do not smear or flake, etc. Both the fine tips and the flat calligraphy tips. They take a few minutes to set completely, but after that, I have found it hard to get it off even if I wanted to (as in when not happy with my handwriting, lol). I can vouch for the metallic ones, specifically. I usually let them sit for like a half hour just to be safe. I even used these on Soul Cards, which are super glossy.

I agree that Oracle decks need keywords. When they dont have keywords I often create a keyword list for the deck and keep the list with the cards. It works very well for me and I don't need to flip through the guidebook anymore

this is so fun for me, because I am the exact opposite! I really dislike keywords on decks for an equally petty reason: I don't like the deck telling me how I'm supposed to feel about the cards! Totally valid to want to have more information on the cards, and I see exactly why it would be helpful. for me I just feel like the deck is telling me I am supposed to view things in a certain way, and i'm enough of a contrarian that it drives me bonkers.

I ended up writing the keywords right onto the Wisdom of Trees Oracle for exactly this reason lol -- I also did that for the Chakra Wisdom Healing Oracle and Druid Plant/Animal Oracles and it helps them work so much better for me!

This is definitely a challenge! and as always your analysis is both spot on and funny 🤣 I have a few of these: Animal Spirit & Nocturna. Animal Spirit I'm good with - I have strong animal associations, and I leave the random fantastical cards like 'black egg' out, using only the animals. Nocturna I have definitely a harder time because of the plant/animal combination (and plant decks generally I have a harder time) - yet that one is too gorgeous for me to ever re-home (I love Anima Mundi Tarot too).

Tarantulas MIGRATE?!?!? 😱 Laughed so hard through this! 😂 I also don’t write on my cards - my own handwriting just distracts me. For stupid guidebooks, you could just add a contents page? But yeh, by now the publishers (mass market decks) should be getting this right - there are enough KZitemrs complaining about keywords. And please don’t add three unrelated keywords! One keyword or two (one positive, one in shadow) is enough!!

Tarot has traditions. Oracle decks stand or fall on their newly-created "systems" I think the authors expect us to read the LWB cover to cover, then *memorize* it. Um, no. Not for all the oracles out there. Its a crowded market. So help us out and put some keywords on and when we pick your oracle out of a bunch we have, it's self-explaining. It's not gonna be our only oracle that we take to the grave. Get over it. Also, Codi: the dawn and dusk books! Dawn tries to be helpful, but dusk is like "You Suck! Weeds! Weeeds!" Lol good vid.

You just prevented me from putting 3 decks on my wishlist! Funnily, I just yesterday considered to put them on, decided to sleep 1 night and check again, and here you are, showing those exact same 2 decks, and turns out I not only agree with your points, I found at least 1 other reason in each of these decks for not wanting them...

I'm here for the complaints. I envision myself sitting at the Oracle customer service department. Cody comes in, and I wave all the other associates away. I love this lady, I got this. A bunch of these decks are kinda publisher cash grabs, in my opinion. Whatever the first one is... I think Kim Krans probably had a much bigger deck in mind for Animal Spirit, and had to cut it down. Your hawk association. 😮 Fuck fire ants. I use all her decks... but that one the least. I did put all the writing on the borders of Archetypes and Alchemy... making the decks super easy to read with. Hmmmm. I want the little decks now. 🐒 I don't really do "fairy" stuff, because to me they're a little scary, I will leave it there. I just got Zammer. I think it's my favorite PV deck... but a keyword wouldn't hurt my feelings. I may write on that one. Dying to fucking have the Mildred Pocket Oracle in the new blood red. That's going to happen. Liminal 11, just stop. Fuck the boxes. I had one deck, the vintage cartoon one, it was cool, but not a keeper. I think I know who you mean with Loputyn. Me too. I saw the weakness of the deck tho. I can sit back and let pretty things belong to other people and not me. I like wolves, but that art was forced into Oracle meanings. I have always wanted Nocturna. I don't love the tarot, buuuuut. Also, Starfish?!? Same. I got nothing. An ocean full of manta reys. I will send your suggestions to management, have a nice day. 😂
