A very accurate review of what has been an underrated Ferrari. I've owned mine for 10 years now and it still is a special feeling when driving. Very comfortable to drive and the manual gearstick is a joy to use. As the modern models get more and more complex in design, these have such flowing lines. My previous car was a Lotus Esprit so I know where you're coming from in the comparison and like you, the new Lotus Emira is something I would look at in the future when I come to replace the 360 (not quite yet though !).

I picked one of these up last year, deliberately a slightly higher mileage example to avoid a car that had sat for ages. Prices didn't seem to have risen as much as other sports cars over the pandemic. Thoroughly enjoying it so far - it's a good blend of old and new and to my eyes a far more graceful shape than the aggressively-styled F430.

A great review, I have had 5 over the years, currently owning a 2001 Spider and 2004 Stradale. The owning and running costs have not been astronomical, if I had one bit of advice is to get any bits done on the car and not leave it as it can cause more issues! I have driven 40-50 k miles across continents on both cars they have been superb and don’t be scared to buy a higher mileage car as one very low mileage I purchased many years ago had numerous issues. They do in my eyes look better than the later 430, which does surprisingly have many more issues. Cambelt change and servicing at independents or dealers is not as costly as many would think. Drive wise the manual is great but so is the f1 if you upgrade the ecu to stradale spec. They are not as sophisticated as the later 430 or 458 but the noise I get from my stradale on full chat is simply amazing. 👍

Great work Mr JayEmm. As an owner who is almost three years and £22k in maintenance (which in fairness includes consumables like brakes and tyres) into his 360 spider (with no regrets) I think it’s a very accurate summary. So far I’ve done: - fuel pumps - steering rack rebuild - soft top elastics and microswitch - pads and discs all round - PS4s x 4 - annual service * 3 (last one inc cambelt) - driver’s window regulator - air con compressor - sundry bits and pieces like bumper paint touch ups, sticky interior trim and probably some other stuff I’ve forgotten Not sure about the parts availability point though. ECUs for example run £7k a pair (if you can find them and you need to replace them in pairs). A lot of the buyers guides from the mainstream mags on these cars suggesting £2k a year maintenance are out of date now these cars are 20+ years old. If you can stomach the maintenance costs then crack on, they are a very special thing (and they don’t really seem to be depreciating anymore).

I never had Ferrari on my radar until I started shopping a replacement for beloved '06 Vantage. I went and checked out the car. My expectation were low... But It was striking in person. Pictures don't do it justice. Bought it for a price I couldn't say "no" to, but was still on the fence. After having it for a few months, I love the thing. Definitely a keeper. I really enjoy the quirkiness of it. Easy to work on, parts are reasonably priced, if you know where to look. Solid 8.5/10 car.

@@johnmitchell2269I actually like the 612’s headlights, they were the perfect shape for that car but I wouldn’t compare it to the 360 as they had completely different design parameters so it’s unfair to the 612, instead I would make the same comparison you did with the 360 & 430 in regards to the 612 & 599, I believe they made the headlights too small on the 599, the 430 & the 599 is when Ferrari really began to over-style their cars and it’s been gradually getting worse since then, the 360 & 612 both had a simple elegance probably my 2 favorite Ferrari’s of all time.

As someone with multiple ferraris for years, this guy is not BSing around like other shallow youtubers. Had a close up look at a Lotus Emira yesterday, and I was really impressed. The styling is magnificent, and the interior a marked improvement over Lotus of old. I'd say it's every bit a supercar, and just as well put together as a Porsche, especially in interior quality. The gear change too is glorious, just like an early MX5. I'd choose the Lotus over the 360 any day of the week. It's absolutely brilliant, and a terrific swan song as the last internal combustion engined car Lotus will ever make.

No it’s not on Porsche’s level, you found a nice example but there’s still quality control issues some of their gearbox’s don’t feel like they should, some already have rattling interiors, warped leather, stitching coming undone, and faulty electronics turning on and off. The 360 is not perfect either put at least it’s a real supercar with a proper V8 not some wannabe with a Toyota Camry engine.

This month the tire sensors have to be change out. In the states a good manual 360 goes for $120,000-140,000 on Bat. Both the 360 and 430 have a very comfortable ride. Totally agree with you about considering using main dealers re: specialist garages. I hasten to add that I've never been in the enviable position to own a thoroughbred sports car. I learned this hard lesson when I ran a Chrysler Grand Voyager as a 7 seater taxi. Absolutely excellent levels of luxury (for the time) but really not suited to the brtitish roads. This car became a money pit needing loads of regular maintenance, that could have been reduced drastically had I use a main dealer with OEM parts. e,g, a set of Mintex brake pads would last maybe 5,000 miles, and discs would need replacing every second set, whereas OEM discs and pads cost about twice as much but the pads would last 10,000 miles without any discernable wear on the discs. I guess the saying 'you get what you pay for' has always been quite true.

Not in 100% agreement ref Ferrari maintenance program. My California T (was) under warranty cover and maintenance pack. Not an insignificant £4000 a year fee. Had it in for annual service at Xmas and to be honest Maranello just tried to take the piss. Left with them for 2 weeks and self evidently they didn’t put it on trickle charge before they got around to look at it as they called to say “battery is flat it’s and £125 to test”… 🙄. Given I’d only just put a new one on at £95 I pushed back. They then gave me a list totalling £3650 for unnecessary / not mandated within service schedule but “advisory” items… such as £240 for a windscreen wiper.. needless to say car will now go to local aftermarket service outfit with fantastic and longstanding reputation.

Answer to the question in the title of the video is: Extremely! This video just proves the age old addage about Ferrari's: You might be able to afford to buy one but you're very likely not going to be able to afford to run one. Nearly everything that was mentioned that might need replacing (and this is a Ferrari so you can bet your life it WILL need replacing at somepoint if you own the car for 5-10 years), was "about a thousand pounds" plus, and I lost track after about the 15th item that was mentioned. Meaning? You could by a 360 for anywhere between £50k or £80k but it's going to cost you anywhere between £5k to £20k on top of that in ownership costs. That's not including fuel! Take away the "super" moniker from the car and that's an added expense that's extremely hard to justify let alone swallow. Even more so that by todays modern standards they're really not "super" at all (think Koenigsegg etc). Sorry but I can't believe any car is that special to drive. I'll take a 981 Cayman thanks.

360’s are pretty cars undoubtedly, but for £50K plus, I find myself thinking, all that cash for a car that only does 0-60 in 5 seconds. I’d prefer a quick Caterham 7 or a quick Elise, both without question better cars to drive dynamically, convertibles, they won’t depreciate and won’t rust and way cheaper to run. For my money an old Fezza isn’t that much of an enticement & is a liability.

I wouldn't fancy doing a big trip in either of those though

The only true investment grade 360 is the CS. While that model may not tickle your palette, I find it to be a relative bargain for a number of reasons. Not least being the genesis car for all the mid engined "strippey" Ferraris. Even today, nearly 20 years on, hardly a week goes by without a mention of this iconic model. I would suggest those with the means find space in their garage for a net double return.

@@marcdavis2840 I chose to respond to a comment that was made and not the entire video. I do appreciate his overall approval of the 360. Happy now?
