@@TheDailyConnoisseur I’m f you have time, I encourage you to do a full video with Mary Poppins inspiration! I think of how determined she was, but also poised and cheerful. By bringing order to the Banks family, the minds of the children become more creative and imaginative. The parents in the first movie were distracted. They had a façade of order, but there was zero connection in the family. In the second, Michael’s life is out of order (understandably) and she brings them back to structure, which actually serves to free the children’s minds from responsibilities that were not theirs to hold. I often think about Mary Poppins in my life. She encourages me to keep my voice calm and my mind steadfast. When I do that I’m somehow free to enjoy the flowers a little more! 🥰

It use to be for me that cleaning = drudgery. However, having been consistent in keeping a gratitude journal, I have completely shifted my thinking. Now I can clearly see that cleaning one’s home is a PRIVILEGE. A privilege of health and good fortune to name a few. So do it cheerfully because many would LOVE to be in your place.

Jennifer, thank you for these videos. My good friend introduced me to your channel a couple of years ago and since this past new year, we’ve been on an intermittent (11-7) journey together and have accumulatively lost around 50 pounds. I’m currently decluttering my home while listening to cozy acoustic music and have also grown to love hot teas. I have purchased beautiful dresses for myself that I would’ve never worn before and I just feel simply feminine and beautiful when other ladies comment on them. I have a LONG ways to go overall, but your channel (along with my dear friend) has been such a sweet addition to my life.

Great video. I personally rarely have to declutter because I keep my house clutter free every day. It helps that it is only my husband and myself in the home (and a teeny dog). No children living at home and my husband and I are neat freaks so the house is always spotless. lol. People walk in and comment how they can stop in un announced at any time and the house is so neat and clean. I'm not saying this to brag, it is just how we both are and it is what brings us peace. I really enjoy watching decluttering videos because watching people declutter also makes me happy (yes, i am weird lol)

This came in a timely manner! Before my son left for summer camp, he asked what I will be doing while he’s gone and I told him decluttering/organizing. Surprisingly, he asked me if I could also help him do the same with his room and closet when he gets back! He usually cleans his own room and bathroom, but usually just vacuuming and stuffing things in drawers/closet/under the bed. I realized especially with teens, sometimes it might be a little overwhelming and don’t know where to start, and they just need a little help and an organizational system that works for them. I ordered some organizational trays/bins for when he returns. Also, I’ve kept his own cordless vacuum in his closet for convenience and amazingly, he probably vacuums more than I do!😂

"Take it slow" Thank you, this applies to so many things. I have recently started sewing again and I notice my old habits of wanting to rush and feeling the pressure to get it finished are still with me. I am deliberately slowing down each step in the process to really understand and enjoy it (and hopefully make better garments). Your video today really spoke to me.

for me, being fully present with what im doing is key, or i will feel disconnected inside and later on depressed or anxious. No type of music, podcast, audio book, candles, flowers, etc can make the process pleasurable if i dont feel doing it in my body and i cannot be present. I actually find that doing things by adding distractions to work against my inner guidance and not be respectful to my body. Is like stepping out of my body and doing things mechanically. If my body doesnt agree with doing something, then it shouldnt be done, otherwise it may lead me to exhaustion and burnout, illness and even unfortunate situations as it happened in the past. Forcing something over my body simply doesnt work for me, including in homemaking. But, i have to say that i love doing house cleaning and i dont have clutter. I simply enjoy the finished cleaned result, is so satisfying. Sometimes though when i need to do a chore and it doesnt feel right i just wait until it does. Things may turn into a mess, and i need to calm my mind down because my body is always right and i know from past experiences that waiting for a yes signal inside of me is worth the wait. I learned to trust this perfect timing that my body has. Even though mind is saying " you should do this, do that", body knows better and so many times i was in awe to discover that this lead to good things and better health.

I discovered that when I get grumpy doing tasks like these, it’s often because I get overheated. This problem got really bad in my late 40s and 50s, I can’t get hormone therapy. So, I now make sure I wear cool, lightweight clothes, drink water, use a fan if necessary, and take my time while working on household chores. This made a huge difference for my ironing, I always thought I hated it, but then I discovered that I really just hated getting so overheated while doing it. I enjoy it now, it’s sort of a Zen-like thing, for me at least. I like doing work on my feet.

Hey Jennifer, I’ve enjoyed reading Lessons from Madame Chic. I’ve been wearing skirts and dresses only for the past two years or so. I’ve been entertaining guests in my home now, play dates and church members, versus always meeting at the parks and splash pads like I used to. I have found it to be quite the fulfilling experience to welcome people into my home and entertain them, and take much delight in serving them and making sure they have snacks and food and drinks filled. Your books and channel have added so much dimension to my life! I wish that I had done these things as a teenager. 🌹

I don’t know why this works for me but if I’m doing housework (washing dishes, emptying the trash, etc) and I wear my hair in one of those giant hair claws and I’m wearing my workout shoes (ones with good cushioning sole) I just move faster, and I feel good when doing housework. If I wear flat sandals or I’m barefoot and I’m doing housework, it takes whole different affect on where my mind and body are (in a negative way)when doing chores.

One of your viewers brought up the subject of DECISION OVERLOAD: my suggestion is to break a task into smaller tasks. Allow oneself to feel the sense of achievement when each small task is completed. As you go, layer in fun, breathing, smiling while working, looking presentable and chic, and hydrating. Just keep each task small and manageable, a kitten instead of a cougar. Then listen to your intuition to know whether to do a little everyday, or a little more three times a week, or change it up. I find de-cluttering difficult, but I know performing it is magic.
