Thank you Edward for taking the time to educate the curious with your experience and wisdom while driving and not shooting this video while working on a clients yard where your full attention and focus is needed to be the professional you present yourself to be. I live in Duarte and I decided to install my landscaping because I believe it's a doable thing if I plan it out correctly. You've given me a little more assurance that I am doing the right thing. Texas Highway Department used this fines to 1/4" as topping rock glued down with emulsion. This sticky stuff is similar to tar. This technique is to give traction on slick surface. I have seen people use it on private driveway. Some use a very thin layer just get traction on dirt. Some installers use an asphalt lay down machine, water and compact with no need for stabilizer. This could hold up regular sized cars, etc. Have seen it used as vehicle parking spot base about 4" thick. With time it would settle on its own with no need for stabilizer. Because of blended size and angular structure, it meshes together just like concrete. Central Texas available from Marble Falls Texas.

Thanks for checking out my video, the dogs will be ok with the DG but, if they are diggers, they may bring in some of the DG into the house and if you have hard wood floors, keep in mind you may get a hazing or fine grain sanding of your floors due to possible fine DG dust on their paws. Having a small rug at any of the outdoor entry points that may lead to the DG areas may help reduce the hazing effect on the floor. This hazing is also possible from human foot traffic too. Hope this helps and please give me your ideas and suggestions to help make my videos more enjoyable and helpful. Respectively, Edward L. Wallace Owner/Midwest Landscaping

We have DG all over our yard , we are in the process of putting the last of it in the back yard but it's on a slope..I'm a little worried about the rain on the hill. We packed it and wet it, but it's still a hill. We've put down 1 truck load, and I probably need about 5 more loads. What do you think? I did have them mix it with some some rocks.
@alcambero
2 ай бұрын
Thanks for viewing my channel and for your inquiry. It seems like you may have an issue keeping the DG in place. Especially depending on the slope grade. Mixing gravel or rocks would be a waste of money, in my opinion. A better use of these dollars would possibly be an investment into a pathway stablizer like Technisoil G3 Pathway Stabilizer. * www.technisoil.com Compacting the DG will help big time, and possibly having some surface drains at staggered levels may help if you anticipate really heavy rain water runoff. I hope this helps and send me a couple of pictures if your challenge so I can see what your dealing with. Take care, stay tuned, and please share the channel...🤠👍🏾

@alcambero
2 жыл бұрын
Deyo, Good morning and thanks for checking out my videos...🙏🏼 Happy to know we reside in the same zone ... 👍🏽 As for planting in the DG, what I do is plant in the native soil and top mulch with the DG approx. 2-3 inches. A number of my projects called out for DG instead of your typical wood chip mulch. Be sure to leave at least 6-8 inches free from DG around the top of your plant trunk base to allow you to apply fertilizers ( liquid in my opinion ) and be very sure to plant with the rootball of your plant at least 1-2 inches higher than the surrounding soil area the plants are being installed in. This assures your newly installed plants do not develope root rot from the soil wicking water from the surrounding soil after watering and damage the trunks of your plants. Hope this helps answer your question, and be sure to check out my website for my monthly blogs and also take advantage of some special website code discounts on the hydretain soil moisture management products and excellent nutrients for all your plants, trees, shrubs, veggies and fruits. www.uniquenvironments.com . I was hoping to learn about DG's performance in snow environments which is why I clicked on Midwest Landscaping's video, I was surprised to see you in LA. Do you have any insight on DG in snowy climates? We get ~2' of snow throughout winter & we're looking to use DG for a pathway in the backyard. Should I just be prepared for some rutting? We also have access to a neighbor's left over road base and I'm wondering if that would be good to use under the DG. And if I use the road base for that, I'm wondering if I need to do a little retention system. I appreciate any insight you have. Thanks for the info!!

Thanks for the information. I wish I had seen your message earlier. I just had granite put in and I’m dassapointed because I wanted it to look like the ones in museums and park entries. My contractor had never heard or worked with it so he did what they told him to do at the shop He put two rounds or three rounds of liquid stabilizer which was expensive because I have a large area. I’m not happy because its not solid like the walkways at public areas is there anything I can do to make it better. It is very dusty and gravelie. Am I stuck with this. My budget was not for pavers etc so I took this route. From listening to you we should of gotten the one with the powder mixed in. Your video is great and your good at exposing in detail. I’m only sorry I did not see it before. Thanks. If you can reply I would appreciate it.

@alcambero
3 жыл бұрын
John, Good morning and sorry for the delay in responding to your question. Thanks for watching my videos first if all and as for a suggestion you may want to consider CRUSHED gravel. This would lock into place better than gravel PEBBLES and would not create a slip and fall opportunity with the more rounded pebbles. Other than that you are kinda stuck with using concrete / interlocking pavers ( a great choice as it provides stability, beauty, and allows proper drainage and water re-charge to the earth when it rains ). Check out your budget. goals, and ability to either DIY or hire a PROFESSIONAL , pay the price and do it right. I hope this helps and please let me know how I can improve my videos and any suggestions you may have for future videos is extremely welcome. Have a blessed day... 🙏 Ed 🤠

@alcambero

Sure but first of all thanks for viewing my videos and hopefully they will inspire you to do your best in all your landscaping endeavors. The best product I have found thus far is a product called Marloc-SS Liquid Soil Stabilizer & Sealer, I get it at a local supplier ( Southwest Boulder & Stone - www.southwestboulder.com ) but, you can find TechinSoil G3 pathway stabilizer at your local SiteOne irrigation supply house. The product is not inexpensive and the key is your application process. Just pay attention to the label instructions and you will be fine. If you can get it where you are located, I rather use pre-mixed dry stabilized DG for my projects as the mix is better blended and cost effective. All I have to do once it is laid out, is wet and compact the DG. Hope this helps, good luck and stay tuned, Ed

What are your thoughts on using DG in garden beds? I'm thinking it would be much easier to trim and remove leaves from shrubs, etc as opposed to a medium such as bark.
@alcambero
7 жыл бұрын
I see fantastic results using DG in planter beds on desert regions and acceptable results using DG in the Mediterranean type landscape out here along the coast in So-Cal. Keeping a safe distance away from the trunks and steams of your plant materials is really important to allow air and water for the root feeder system. Wood chip mulch is basicly inexpensive bit you need to pay attention of where your getting it, and what is the chip ratio make up. DG cozst a little more but better you own quality rather than what ever is cheap. Hope this helps and sorry it took so long to respond back Respectfully, Edward L Wallace Owner / Midwest Landscaping

What alternative to decomposed granite would you recommend for a patio and walkway? I live in Michigan and we also have hardwood floors and pets.
@alcambero
4 жыл бұрын
Marc, Thanks for taking the time out to check out my video, it is much appreciated. As for my suggestions for a alternative to DG Its depends a lot on your activity level on the pathway and patio ( family gatherings, walking traffic etc.. ) the ascetic of the pathway and patio ( What you desire as way of how it looks in comparison with the style and look of your home ) and most important your budget. ( What you are willing to pay to get what you want ) Installing a flagstone type of pathway would possible work best as you can purchase large slabs of flagstone to act as walking surfaces within the pathway and those larger slabs can act as support systems for patio furniture within the patio area. By using lager slabs you can form the look you want and fill in the gaps with crushed gravel in the joints. This will allow for expansion and contraction during the winter freeze months back there and also allow for proper drainage during the rainy times. Have a professional hardscape landscape contractor give you a quote and visit a local stone supply house to look at selections of flagstone and crushed gravel. Be sure to figure out the square footage of the areas you want to cover and have this number or plot out a gypsum outline of the proposed pathway and patio drawn out kin the proposed project areas so the contractor where and what they are working with. Long explanation but, I hope it proves helpful. Good luck in your quest and keep me up on how things go. Stay tuned and give me your suggestions to better my videos and ideas for new ones. Respectfully, Edward L. Wallace / Owner / Midwest Landscaping

Thanks for checking out my videos... Technisoil G3 stabilizer is a great suggestion for you. You can pick it up at most SiteOne irrigation supply stores or Ewing Irrigation Supply

I wonder what is the prices difference between DC and Concrete? In 2019

The price is usually more for concrete as you have the forming of where the concrete is to be installed,,rebar installation if you use rebar, the actual going price of the concrete which fluctuates, delivery cost, and the contractor cost if you hire a contractor. DG cost is mostly the availability of the product, variety/color/ coarseness you want, delivery distance to the job site and the addition of stabilizer wether it is incorporated into the DG or you hand apply it via liquid if you choose to use stabilizer, and the contractor cost if you choose to hire a contractor.

It is my hope that my 'Bare Bones' video would be helpful in some small way to help folks reduce the stress and educate themselves a little on various aspects of landscaping. If you have any question landscape related please contact me at eddiewallace34@gmail.com. Ed

You do not need the stabilizer to get a concrete form or texture.
