One of my favorite memories when I was a kid - I was at an ice cream parlor in Old Tappan NJ and they had the little jukeboxes - I was with my Uncle because we were going food shopping but we stopped off there and I picked Pleasant Valley Sunday to eat my ice cream sundae to lol.

I love this record and am grateful to hear these isolated tracks. I have always wondered if Peter played these exceptional piano parts. The piano riffs on the bridge are especially cool. Chip Douglas and Fast Eddie are kicking ass. This record takes Carol King’s demo to a very different place. Check out her demo elsewhere on KZitem. Thanks again for these great glimpses into these great records

The Chip Douglas era was the Monks at their most unified, with any and all session players under their direction. This breakdown of "PVS" is proof of that. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Chip is still alive and was on Coast to Coast Am a few months ago. I was so glad to hear. Michael Nesmith was on Coast to Coast right before he died and he seemed to know and was real emotional with the callers paying respect to him.

PVS was one of the Monkees songs that they actually carried all the way through unto a full 3+ minutes, as you can see if they did it to all of their songs how full and rich they would have been. So many times I wish they didn't abbreviate a song knowing they were trying to cram it for television, but this is no perfect world. Even in the abbreviated ones they put enough in to make you wish it were longer.

I have a new appreciation for Pleasant Valley Sunday. The instrumental could have been a hit on its own. Without the separation, I never realized there were nice harmonies in the vocal. The arrangement is almost mind blowing.

This isolation revealed many things I couldn't hear on the song itself. By the way, it's possible that Micky also played an acoustic guitar on this song.

Say what you want about The Monkees. Their stuff was as professionally done, from the writing to the performing to the producing, as anything of that time. And from "Headquarters" on, they were more than just guys brought in to sing what they were told to. Do they belong in the R n R HOF ? IMO probably not; but that can be said of a lot of groups. I have a fair amount of their stuff, and I'll play it gladly. P.S. "Daily Nightly" off Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn and Jones Ltd. is sublime. Mike as writer and Mickey as singer (and on the Moog) - !!!!!!!

Maybe by definition they don't belong in the RNRHOF, but compared to some other groups that have been inducted, I would say so :) Plus, as I always say, 4 number one albums in a single year must count for something!

They belong for 1) actually fighting the (huge corporate) establishment to be more authentic artists and WINNING, and then once they have that creative control they go on to make more #1 albums and hit records, and 2) Any one band that released all the following kick ass classics deserves to be in the Hall: Daydream Believer, Randy Scouse Git, Tapioca Tundra, Goin Down. All of those made once the Monkees had creative control.
