Micky will always be one of the great voices from that era.👍👍

I was nine years old in 1967. I was a huge Monkees fan. Thank you so much for posting these. The credits are fascinating. It's amazing how many incredible musicians played on these tracks

This is one of the gems on the More of the Monkees album. In these comments no one seems to mention that it was written by Carole King and Gerry Goffin. Micky's vocals are superb. He does not get the credit he deserves for being one of the best vocalists in the rock era. Another one of your great deconstructions, thanks for posting!!

The whole album is good. Only THE DAY WE FALL IN LOVE is weak. The circumstances behind the album’s creation are what make it controversial. It was Kirshner’s power play because the first album did great and he had de facto nothing to do with it.

This song was never originally mixed correctly and even the super deluxe reissue mixes couldn’t correct the problem. But this instrumental mix is incredible! Thank you for continuing to plow through the Monkees catalog! I can’t wait until you get to the later stuff, my favorite!

I’m not sure, but Micky was either under appreciated or under rated? He was/is totally top shelf!!! 💪

I never noticed how punchy the drum track was. And for me the pull of this song was the organ. Very churchy and warm.

Definitely in front of the beat and drives it. Never considered how the muffling/towel and muffled bass=rhythm section really works!🎉 luv it!

I understand the backing band on this was The Myddle Class, who included Charles Larkey, later Carole's second husband. They were from New Jersey and recorded for Goffin and King's record label, Tomorrow Records.

Thank you. I never knew that! Always assumed the Wrecking Crew.

Another excellent job Septyl. As others have mentioned the original mix was pretty muddy. I think it was the original stereo mix that had the single tracked Micky vocal and the mono had the double tracking/echo vocal. Regardless the backing track was still mush as were a few of those that Carol King did out of NY. What you’ve done here is superb! Keep up the amazing work, we are all loving these deconstructions.

Mine too! He toured solo in the 90’s and at Club Bene here in joizey I yelled it out! And they played it! The guitarist didn’t know it and busted out sheet music!🎉

If you search youtube for Carole King's demo, it's pretty cool. Micky seems to follow her vocal track

This song does not list the recording personnel. The instruments sound the same as those in Carole’s demo recorded in New York. Nevertheless, the song is really great.
Exactly who is singing backups on this. I know Boyce and Hart are in there, but I hear Micky, Davy and maybe Peter??

Davy and Micky are definitely singing. I was also slightly thinking Peter but I don't completely hear him.

They let Dolenz play drums on the recording and not somebody from The Wrecking Crew?

@@Byronik Micky did not play drums on this track. I’m not 100% sure who played the drums so I just used a picture of Micky.

The backing track to Sometime In The Morning was recorded in New York City so the The Wrecking Crew wasn't involved. Most of the Monkees backing tracks recorded in NYC featured drums by either Buddy Saltzman (e.g., I'm A Believer) or Herb Lovelle (e.g., A Little Bit Me, A Little Bit You). Sometime In The Morning and the second version of I Don't Think You Know Me (the version with Peter's lead vocal) seem to feature the same musicians but records of the personnel have never come to light.

This is one of my favorite Monkees songs...It's too bad that the overall recording of it sounds so awful!
