I'm so with you about cleaning supporting my mental health. If I have a high daily score for physical energy and a low daily score for mental energy, cleaning is my first go-to, followed by decluttering and then organising. Certainly took me years to get to this, but now I'm so glad I replaced the shopping, partying and getting into heated social media debates, with something so productive.

This video has sparked me to start deep cleaning. I haven’t kept up with deep cleaning in a long time. I clean every day but not the deep cleaning tasks. 1 week isn’t realistic for me right now. Home with the kids, work part time, no family that helps with watching kids, and hubs works long hours. I felt like it wasn’t possible for me to do this with 2 young kids and pregnant. But I’ve started and I’m just doing what I can when I can and making progress each week! Every time I finish something I feel so good and happy!

Think of how much stress and drama could be saved if we all took to cleaning instead of shopping!! My family of 6 (4 girls ages 10-6 mos) are gonna travel the US this coming year in an RV following my husband, who is a travel nurse. Less space and things to have to clean. Taking the Shark mop because it is awesome!! I put vinegar in that as well to deep clean and keep the mop from clogging. Do you recommend your grass broom? I want a pretty AND functional broom to hang on a wall in the RV. LOVE your Channel. Romanticizing my beautifully boring life. I will just put on your Playlists while cooking or playing with my girls. I almost bought my girls that wooden rainbow puzzle but then remembered your advice with toys. I love cleaning. Yey! I so agree that when you have little, there is not much time to take to clean. About 12 years ago a woman asked me, "How do you have time to do all these hobbies of yours? I feel like I am cleaning all day long." I was like, "Well. . .my home is small and I don't own much, so it goes faster. You can also choose to clean different rooms on different days." She never heard of doing that. I see you do that too. :)

We do need regular physical tasks for our mental health! It goes back to ancient survival instincts, where if we had anxiety or stress, we would do something physical about it. For example, worrying that we don’t have enough food we would go out and forage. But today many of our stressors are social, cognitive (office work) or digital challenges. People with physical jobs on average tend to have lower stress at work. This is why it’s good to get children doing lots of physical play to help activate that part of the brain that can solve problems and cope with stress

I'm from UK so not sure if Target also sell groceries/cleaning products? If so use your gift cards to buy these essentials then you are free to spend equivalent amount on a family outing/trip to hairdressers etc! Occasionally it is nice to have a new piece of home decor though- provided you then donate an old one (or more) to charity. If you are tempted by something ask yourself 'am I willing to donate 1 or more item to charity if I buy this ?' If you answer 'yes' it's yours! Just be sure to clear those other items first 😅

@@gillianm9367 thanks for the input. I only use branch basics for cleaning which they don’t sell. I was hoping to buy a broom but they only had plastic ones, no wood ones. I get all my food through my local CSA’s and Azure standard which is more cost affective among other things. I’m not really a home decor person. At this point I have everything I would want for my home, if anything I need to get rid of more. I think I will go back and either get a few books or maybe a new insulated water bottle. I appreciate your suggestions though.

Cleaning is self love….. yes it is! 👏🏻 Taking care of what you have is therapeutic. It also helps you find appreciation of what you have which brings contentment which helps you stop looking for more stuff. It’s all part of the cycle. There’s a huge difference in cleaning my house versus my sister’s house and the peace it brings afterwards. Same style and size of house. The only difference is clutter and the amount of stuff.

I find it really helps my dishwasher to run it for about ten minutes with no soap, stop the cycle making sure it drains 100%, and then start the new cycle with detergent. The extra hot water rinse really seems to help it do its work better. I do this most of the time. Pouring boiling water into it and putting that through the drain cycle is also good to clear it out.
