Inspirals were a great Manchester band. Grim, Northern, Depressed. It all sums up Manchester back in the late 80's. I was 18 in 1989. Brilliant time for music, clubs but such a depressing time for jobs, money and what Manchester was like then. It wasn't until the IRA blew up the city that it started to regenerate. Three songs by them after this were. Joe. She Comes in the Fall. Saturn 5.

Part of the Manchester scene, aka "Baggy" music from the associated clothing, circa 1988-1991. It was another one of the tunes in the standard "indie disco" playlist that the Manchester scene spread across the country. The use of the Hammond organ there recalls the Northern Soul scene as well as old fashioned ballrooms and dance floors in declining seaside towns and Butlins resorts. Big names - Happy Mondays, The Charlatans, The Stone Roses, as well EMF and their one hit wonder Unbelievable. Also The Farm (Groovy Train, Steppin Stone) even though they were from Liverpool. Some good nights out dancing for sure.
