This album came out when DP changed to heavy metal and is well worth an album review. For 1970 it is one of first heavy rock albums ever.

The most metal early album, more so than even Sabbath at the time. The roots of thrash and speed metal (Speed King, Hard Lovin' Man) along with Fireball's title track.

Imagine, I was five years old when my brother was playing In Rock on repeat at home... It was shortly after the release of this album and for me it was mind-blowing. Gillan's high-pitched screams, Blackmore's jolts of vibrato on his guitar, Lord's organ rumbling under distortion and the relentless but swinging rhythm section of Paice and Glover. Total heaven for a child !!! More than fifty years later, I still have the same thrill when listening to these legendary pieces. Huge album that I always keep in my favorites. It never gets old. Better than that, it's still fresh and relevant in 2023.🤘 Oh by the way justin, when you finish In Rock, you'll have to finally listen to the original version of "Speed King" appearing on the original UK vinyl and not the truncated version without its intro on the US version you listened to.😉

Back in the 70s I had the US issue of "In Rock", without the frenetic intro to "Speed King". Then I found a German greatest hits comp which did have it and I'm like, "Wow what have we here?" lol If you think about it (no need to think really, just give the LP a spin), "In Rock" sort of loops around on itself - it opens with a bit of RnR chaos, then closes out with more of the same as the final track, "Hard Lovin Man" fades out in the same wild noise. In between all that sits musical nirvana.

I'm probably in a minority here, but I much prefer the re-recording that was done during the Steve Morse era, with an older Ian Gillan. He doesn't soar as high, but I feel his voice has more weight to it. And the mix is better.
@ninoorjon

Nothing better, just as cool as the first time, and it's amazing because it was recorded after 28 years and Gillan's voice in the screams is so powerful that it rings in your ears, and Morse's shredding perfectly complements the solo, and more importantly, what is there no fading (I hope I use that word correctly).

I still enjoy it (feels like I last heard it when I was callow) especially when the lead guitar and organ kick in. RE: *Faust* I can make a suggestion (apart from the Cardiacs improvisations on Laufft) that wouldn't break an album flow: a pop song (sort of) called *Sunshine Girl* kzitem.info/news/bejne/qIiu3IWjjYaraH4 It's different to *Why Don't You Eat Carrots?* but that's where the experts have indicated you should commence your exposure, so I can't suggest it yet. I suppose seeing as it's different, I'd better give you some idea of what to expect of this song, though. _Moment mal_ ... Right ... ehem ... um ... OK ... so ... Noise. Then some radio. Late Victorian sonata-style piano. Some noise with brass. Then some completely different noise. More brass. More and more tune all the time. Some more brassy brass ... oh shit, I spilled my coffee on the score. Ah well, that might give you a little indication of what it is. (I suppose I should add that it's really great noise. Or quite nice, at a minimum. Some noise is not all that nice, but it's not that kind of noise ... er ... ja ... best to just listen, nê?)

As old school rock goes, it's ok. Not a bad riff, though overall a little repetitive, paritc the first half. The break livens it up a bit, with the obligatory solos, but neither geet of keys were dazzling, just adequate. Not their best, but i've deffo heard worse.

Since Quentin Tarantino is my favorite director / writer, 'From Dusk Till Dawn' is hands down my favorite bloodsucker movie. In tandem with Robert Rodriguez, this is such a bloody, violent, mind fucking movie (and mind fucking movies are my favorite kinds of movies) that takes so many cool twists and turns. And when it goes from a psychokiller movie into a full blown vampire movie, well it's so hard not to get a chill down your spine and a sharp pain in your neck. For me, Juliet Lewis steals the show. She went from being a psychokiller herself in 'Natural Born Killers' (another mind fuck movie) to being a young girl with almost no worldly experience, transforming into a different, milder version of her 'Killers" character. I'm waiting for 'Yellowjackets' to finish up its second season so I binge some Juliet. P.S. My favorite mind fuck movie of all time is 'A Clockwork Orange'. Oh my god!

For me this is sad. They started as a psychedelic folk-rock band with songs that had deep meaning. Here they've devolved into screeching cock-rock with repetitive riffs and unintelligible vocals (the lyrics aren't worth the trouble to read). Mere headbanger music. Stick with their first 3 albums, even when they were doing cover songs they were more original than this.
@ninoorjon
Жыл бұрын
Their first albums were too pop and too imitative. Their songs were like a patchwork quilt that was stitched together with Hendrix's riffs, bits of classics and Vanilla Fudge's approach. It's good that they found their sound and got out of the pop zone, which some people may like, but has no true value, because it is one of many.
@a.k.1740

Yes, they made three excellent baroque psychedelic rock albums but they weren't going to do that all their life! And the split with Rod Evans and Nick Simper made Captain Beyond and Warhorse exist so for me that's fine!😉

This was original when it was released. If it's been devalued at all it's by its many imitators. And Deep Purple's psychedelic period was reflective of the times, but it was anything but original even when good.
