@@KrowleyPineapples777 Pardon the prose, I'm in a strong writer's mood today. I'm no expert but, here's what I do know: It's an environment entirely hostile to our biologies; where light either doesn't reach or barely hobbles through in luminosity so dim that it might as well not have reached there at all as far as our eyes are concerned, where the pressure could reduce a man to a condensed clump of pulp, and where so much as taking a breath can kill. So radically distinct is it from the one we've evolved for that even its study proves a task greater than that of space, since at least with the latter, you can observe without directly plunging into it. It's only fitting such an environment begets equally strange and disturbing life, really. "As above, so below", or so they say. Many of its inhabitants are among the most uncanny in the animal kingdom; every facet of their bodies almost seeming to have been made with the active intention of setting off a muddled, confused fight or flight response. Wide maws lined with villiform teeth; huge eyes, or no eyes at all; slippery skin colored pale, black, or pinkish for lack of need of any color when the light required to see it simply does not exist; appendages that glow faintly amid the eigengrau of the deep sea like stars against the backdrop of a night sky; and bodies enlarged by the depths for reasons we're still not quite sure of. One could suppose that ancient maps weren't wrong when they said monsters dwell in the sea; only that they were wrong in placing them to the four corners of the world, rather than in its deepest depths.

Very intelligent there planet got sucked into Nibru atmosphere making it a 4th moon I can’t think of the name of their home world starts with a M. It will come back to me I will the comment but apparently they are supposed to be very mad us and don’t like us. After ww2 the mermaids along with other inner earth beings would finest military bases and even deactivate nukes. Some of the siren/mermaid race are the cursed daughters of Adam who had the nephlim kids and were taught dark magic by the dark lords. Or the fallen angels the dark lords of Atlantis who are the fallen angels same people and then even some of us on the surface of not people in general. We’re once able to breath underwater this is why we have web fingers when we are in water so really we are the mermaids/mermen we’re looking for. Underwater your damn near immortal so it’s really not a curse and I’ve even heard some of the navy had a skirmish. With sirens/mermaids who’s voices were too enchanting the soldiers couldn’t fight back at first but they came to an agreement. After many skirmishes the queen of the sirens or mermaids in the region I guess seen navy ships entering there territory. And swam right beside the ship but the fact the navy were told to leave and come back around that area I think perhaps were dealing with a civilization. In the mermaid mythology they called the proctors of the ocean secrets no man shall know all.

Idk if I'm alone in this, but I gotta say that I'm not a huge fan of where you moved the sponsored segment in your last couple videos. For me, the end of these videos are usually filled with a sort of quiet reflective mood, where I'm still taking in what I just saw while listening to the sound of the tape running out and to your outro. The sponsored segment starting the instant the story ends makes it harder to keep that feeling. Maybe it would work better if there were at least a few seconds between the end of the recording and the start of the sponsor. Apart from that, really great work as always. I'm still blown away by the level of thought and detail you put into these, they never fail to suck me in.

As someone who grew up consuming vast amounts of nature documentaries and weird animal facts, it always makes me so happy to see how much effort you put into making these creatures. Things like Mermaids essentially evolving like dolphins did and thus not re-evolving gills because lungs are more efficient, or horned creatures gaining their traits from cancer mutations like deer did, makes me so giddy and happy to see baked into mythical creatures!

Hi Thought Potato! Just as one could think that you explore pretty much everything about mermaids you highlight a new subject. My compliments! Due to its chilling appearance this species could be related to myths of demonic mermaids in Indian Ocean (just as Suvannamacha in Ramayana)? May I ask you which kind of sightings or legends inspired this last your creation? Since I first read 20.000 leagues under the sea and Moby Dick, as a child I had a deep curiosity for some of the most famous giants of the depths. Just as I did for the Qalupalik, I'd like to pose a question about the habits and diet of these creatures. Could the scars on the body that you described, be a record of an encounter with a certain infamous invertebrate predator (like on spermwhales)? Parting from ancient and modern folklore, recent researches depicts a behaviour more slow and a size more contained for the Architeuthis Dux. So my question is: could the Aquasapien Profundus of 4 meters long (alone or in group) be a fair match for a Giant Squid (or other large cephalopods)? Are they endemic of the Atlantic Ocean or more evenly spread, like other creatures of the mesopelagic zone? Due to their cold-resistence and habit to dive in deep waters could they get into Qalupalik? In that case what could be the outcome? My best regards to You!

Refresher/Reminder; I have three great video suggestions for you. Dhampirs; The Strange Case of the "boneless children", the ancient legends said that in the place of Bones they have a gelatinous substance and also have an instinctive hatred for vampires (pheromones perhaps?), they can be children of an uninfected with an infected, rare cases of women infected during pregnancy or just mutants. in legends, it was said that vampires still retained some of their humanity and ended up raping their wives. Cambion; half-demons whose only power is attractiveness (financial, sexual and or social), the legends said that succubi after "collecting" the semen would pass or become an incubus that there "places" in a woman, in this case I would say it would be a type of parasite similar to cuckoos. Vrykolakas; Rare cases of double infection by a pair of viruses that alter the genetics of their host, legends mention that "like wolves they walked on all fours" and depending on the source it was said that they "returned" as direwolves/werewolves. Ps; tell me did you use the Vrykolakas idea for the zombie werewolf video? if yes, thank you :).

Would you ever consider doing something like a Kelpie or Selkie? I love these videos so much and apply the some sciences you use here to TTRPG games when building creatures or terrain they live in.

Thought Potato, this video about Aquasapians Propundus was unexpected, and despite it being interesting, I must admit i would love to see more land or air based creatures instead of so many that resemble mermaids. I know the sea is vast and mostly unexplored, making it a ripe territory to discover new things, but i'm still wondering how many mermaid-like creatures there can be. I'd still love to see more videos related to Dr. Aleric and a video explaining Trolls or Griffons. No offense, and keep up the good work!

😂 I always get hype when seeing his video uploads but it’s too many unique creatures and entities to go unnoticed than to keep going back on mermaids/sirens and horror movie trope monsters 😂.

David Romero (really good horror animator) has an amazing video showing deep sea mermaid concepts. Absolutely terrifying.

i wonder if any closer behavioral observation was needed. No matter how strong of a diving cage, vessel or scuba gear would be available, i would not get less than 3 meters close to water with this creature

The deepest parts of the ocean are brimming with life that seems downright alien. And even the things our humble investigator has found are even more strange and twisted in these dark and cold depths. I’m loving this follow up/spin off video. So many potential ideas for more videos in here while the world gets build out.

@ThoughtPotato I don’t know if you’ve already got a current list for the year about what creatures you’ll do for this series, but could you do an episode of Brownies and Boggarts, I’m curious if there’s a way to explain the transformation between the two

I would love to see if the aquasapiens are as emotional intelligent as dolphins. Like perhaps maybe a log about your character observing a pod taking care of a female thats about to give birth, with her sisters acting as midwifes or her mate biting away her embilical cord and helping both her and the baby to reach the surface. Id also love a video about there social hierarchy. And their intellect.

You should make a video on the biology of Siren Head. I think that'd be pretty cool. :)

An excellent episode as always sir, I don't know if you take suggestions from your KZitem comments but if you do have you ever consider taking a look at the Mongolian death worm I think it would have a fascinating entry.
