Hello, i too fish Algonquin. I was wondering if you have used it in deeper water (50m or deeper ie..Opeongo)?, and was it accurate of how deep the floor and/or structures were? TIA
@QuietWildernessFishing
Жыл бұрын
I've used it as deep as 30m and was able to play with lake trout chasing my bait watching it on the sonar. My experience with this unit is so far it's at least as capable as the manufacturer claims.

I just got a deeper chirp+ 2 to do some mapping. Two major issues for me is the lack of water level adjustment, like just a manual input of at what level the water is when you do the mapping. One area I did changes from 560m above sea level to 588m. The second thing is that it will stop logging if the screen saver turns on your phone. So you always need to keep the screen active or else it will stop logging. Thats sad because it will suck the battery of your device really fast. And usually when you log large areas, you dont have to look at the phone. Other then that its seems like a durable device.

Interesting, I've never had the screensaver feature turned on so that's never been an issue for me. Like I say in the video, the phone's battery is a bottleneck so having it plugged in and charging while using is ideal. Also, interesting point about water levels. If you're aware of what the water levels are at when you're on the water, should be easy enough to calculate what the difference in depth reading should be.

Hi. I mean it should be a way to keep logging with the screen off. I case of my survey where I dont need screen active thus saving battery instead. If you continue to map over several days or weeks, water that has such high difference between low and high would turn useless because there is no way of altering the water level before or after in the final deeper map.

I wish you would show the mapping better. Does it show contour lines, or just colors?

Shows very clear contour lines and separates depth by colour also. Lots of data, easy to read

4:09 the two prongs, one would be positive and the other negative, and the water completes the circuit, so power flows from 'anode' to 'cathode' so I'd guess it's normal, and just corrosion from the current flow. But I'm a residential electrician, so don't take my word on it, but seems likely.. I've been looking at these on bass pros website, but just bought a bunch of stuff for backcountry trips after watching some of your videos, the solo canoe ate a bit of my disposable funds.. but I am surprised at how well the sonar image shows up, I honestly thought it was more of a gimmick, when you see ones for $2,000 for a boat.. good to know!
@QuietWildernessFishing

That's an interesting idea that might explain why only one prong is corroded. I can absolutely assure you that these units are very capable and reliable 2D sonars. Not a gimmick at all. I was also skeptical but everything it promised was exactly what I needed for backcountry trips and it surpassed my expectations.

Same reason I bought myself one for Christmas, to bring into the backcountry. Is that the 2.0 boat mount? Having a hard time biting the $100 bullet for one. Have you tried it on a boat? Just wondering how well it would work while trolling or going a little quicker than trolling speed with a motor. Thanks for the video!
@QuietWildernessFishing
3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it's the 2.0 mount. I have used it on a small little tinner, that's in my "Sunrise Smallies" video. Works well for trolling, not sure how well it would work going faster though. The boat mount is worth it, even with it's few flaws. I've tried a couple other ways to attach to a boat but none work as well as the proper mount. Thanks for watching and the feedback 🤘
@CoveringWater

@@QuietWildernessFishing Well that's perfect then, I only have a tinner that I would use it on the odd time, but it would mainly be for the canoe. I'll checkout the video, smallies are where it's at. Cheers

I've been wanting a fish finder for my pedal kayak, but want a bigger screen. They get pretty expensive pretty fast. Thinking about something like this and using my 7" android tablet. Plus, I could pack this into mountain lakes in a float tube or use it from shore. Might be a better option.

I would say your biggest challenge will be mounting the tablet and deeper to the boats. But if you can figure that out, these units are very powerful, very versatile, and will serve you well.
