When Steve died I was working cleaning a restaurant after closing, I heard the news over the radio that nite. All of a sudden I got the worst feeling that they'd be no more Def Leppard. Now I felt concern for the man's soul too. I realized both of the guitarist that made my band were gone. Today, Phil and Viv are doing a great job. But man, what would've been. ROCK ON.

It’s funny that they are talking like aged veterans and Joe says he was feeling old at age 30. They just headlined a stadium here a couple weeks ago and drew a huge crowd. 32 years after this interview! Never in my life would I have guessed as a teenager that this music would still be around 30-40 years later.

Andrenalize is by far the most under-rated Leppard album in my opinion. It is my second favorite after Hysteria! It's their only other album besides Hysteria to reach #1, and the only one to debut at #1. Sadly and for reasons I don't understand, Adrenalize has recently been neglected more and more by the band.

I wonder if Joe still has those black leather pants with the red stars! But yeah, highly underrated album! "Tonight," "White Lightning," "Stand Up (Kick Love Into Motion)," and "I Wanna Touch U" are fantastic. And props to them for finishing the record as a four-piece out of respect for Steve!

When Love and Hate Collide (with Steve) should’ve replaced Tonight, the electric version of Miss You In A Heartbeat should’ve replaced Stand Up, and Fractured Love Should’ve been on the album. Then it would’ve been the best album they ever recorded.

This was the beginning of the end. I remember being so disappointed in the album when it was released. Shorter songs, horrible lyrics, and even more poppier song structures too... Some of the songs even sounded like Bryan Adams! White lightning is the only song on the album worth it's salt...... It was like, we waited 5 years for THIS? It's funny hearing them say at the time that this was a "heavier" album than Hysteria...lol. really? None of these songs remain in the setlist today, except for let's get rocked, which is probably the most brain dead song ever recorded by A hard Rock band.

For what it's worth - I'm a relatively newer fan. Growing up, I heard photograph and/or pour some sugar on me once in a while on the radio, but I hadn't really discovered Def Leppard until I came up through High School a few years back. I heard Mirror Mirror from their High 'n Dry album for the first time, allowing me to discover more of their discography. I must say Adrenalize is the turning point in their career like you mentioned being "poppier" but after giving it some more listening, a lot of songs became more appealing to me. I think Retro Active is where I draw the line. I bought every album (not including their E.P.) on CD but just couldn't get behind anything after Adrenalize. What I think this album does best - that the consecutive albums don't - is what Rick describes here (1:45). You also have to consider the loss of Steve in the final production. All in all, I agree that this album may come off as disappointing as somebody anticipating a new DL album after Hysteria, but from my perspective I think it was a great tribute from how far the band had come (and I would give it another chance).

I say everybody I know and knows Def Leppard that I prefer ¨Adrenalize¨ more than ¨Hysteria¨ and they look me like I'm fuckin' crazy. "Adrenalize" it's too "Pop-ie"they say... then I look at them like they're fuckin nuts. A super ignorate commentary... I just want to say this: Better than "Hysteria".

Phil switching to Randall amps was a huge reason their sound went to shit. After Pyromania they went straight down. Without Steve they lost their soul. Even though I didn't care for Hysteria, it still had Steve and that DL thing to it.

@whataboutrob442 I don't know whether changing amp gear made a lot of difference but for sure the electronic drum kit sounded awful. I figure Clarke and Willis contributed the main song ideas, at least the good ones. The first three albums were great and then it got worse with every album. Adrenalize was already pretty lame amd boring.

Adrenalize was a good album however it came with the wrong timming. If Adrenalize would have been issued in 1990 it would have been almost double of sales and popularity by now. However march 1992 there was already too much depressive, doom and "everything sucks" kind of music that adrenalize humor and poppy uplifting music was not well received by young fans and new generations. Bad timming. Of course missing our beloved steve is very noticeable. My fav songs of the album is white lightning and i wanna touch u and stand up, I hate make love like a man song

It came out at the right time! There was no way they could have released it in 90 due to Steve’s problems! The reason I said I came out at the right time in 92 was simply due to the music scene was already dogging down in grunge & alternative! It was a breath of fresh air”fresh air” so to say! As far as sales numbers, it would not have sold better in 90 either! It’s the last good album they put out but people were wanting Hysteria part 2 in 90, this album is clearly not part 2! I think the sales figures would have been lower! Let’s Get Rocked was a more return to early 80’s Lep compared to Hysteria! That alone would have kept sales lower in 90 than in 92! I was in high school when this album came out & had a friend, (who’s mom worked at the local music store) pick it up for me the morning it came out! I had it in hand at 8 am that day! Couldn’t wait to get it home & hear good music again!
