I was in South Korea, 1976-1977...fun times! There is a weather pattern there that is uniquely predictable: for most of the day, the winds blow North to South. For most of the night, the winds flow South to North. Anyway, the North Koreans loved to send propaganda balloons into the sky early morning, so the winds would carry them South. The balloons (3-4 feet in diameter) would pop and dump leaflets to the ground below. They were hilariously written screeds...partly direct quotes of Marx or Lenin (badly translated) or emotionally-charge tirades condemning everyone who isn't a loyal Party member. We weren't supposed to keep any flyers...the base Commander felt they had a negative effect on morale. Sorry for the trip down memory lane...I get nostalgic whenever North Korea pops off with their nonsense.
