Defenders are noisy and make all types of strange clunking and banging sounds as standard, but our 2012 Land Rover Defender 110 Utility started making a completely new banging sound from underneath, somewhere near the front or rear axle when changing gear and the propshaft takes up the slack. This latest clanging sound turned out to be a worn Rear UJ on the prop shaft. Only issue was it worryingly happened when we were about 6 hours away from home, so not the ideal time or place to discover a new problem with the Defender.
Still, it could fortunately be driven back okay and we got the rear prop shaft UJ changed soon after, and now everything is good again with the trusty Defender. One less clunking sound, a slightly lighter wallet, but still a big smile on my face.
