Dejdamrong, aka Kru Rong is a Muay Thai legend (3x Lumpini champ) and an MMA pioneer (Thailand’s first MMA champ). He fought successfully into his 40s for ONE Championship and inspired millions around the world, myself being no exception. Traditional Muay Thai is incredible, but in an MMA setting it has a weakness in the form of wrestling takedowns. Kru Rong adapted his style to use punishing knees and elbows against any type of opponent, even wrestlers.
Recently, Dejdamrong opened a gym in Phuket, Thailand and now teaches future generations how to compete at the highest level. I was lucky enough to come into contact with Kru Rong, and even luckier considering I got to train with him and his students at Sor Dejdamrong Gym. Check out the lessons I learned, and visit his gym next time you’re in Phuket!
