Even though I had been watching movies since the 70s, this was the first movie that I became aware of Rip Torn. I've been a huge fan ever since. What a great actor he was, he really stole this movie, could've easily been nominated for an Oscar for this small role. Supposedly it was this performance that landed him the role of Artie on The Larry Sanders Show

See if you can find a copy of "Payday" (1972). It's kind of amazing.

@@SuperBeansBob yes, thanks Bob, I have seen quite a few Rip Torn movies in my day including Payday. He's good in everything he does, some great performances in Payday, Cross Creek, Cincinnati Kid, Heartland, Where the Rivers Flow North, Dodgeball, and a lot more. R.I.P. Rip
