In a recent booth visit, Mark Henninger from Sound & Vision discussed Definitive Technology's reinvigorated Mythos line of speakers with Josh Sy of Massimo Consumer. The new offerings include ultra-thin passive soundbars and LCR speakers that feature innovative XTDD drivers, allowing them to be less than two inches thick. These speakers are designed to seamlessly blend with the aesthetics of modern flat-screen TVs and are available in 65-inch, 75-inch, and 85-inch sizes. Additionally, they offer adjustable "wings" to perfectly match the width of the television, providing up to three or six inches of adjustability based on the TV size.
Besides their slim profiles, these speakers are meant to be used with an AV receiver, offering more power and the flexibility to add additional in-ceiling rears or full-sized Dimension loudspeakers. The lineup is also timbre-matched, providing a cohesive audio experience. Another standout feature is their IP66 weather resistance, making them suitable for both indoor and outdoor usage. While it may seem that the speakers' small cabinets could limit their bass output, Josh suggests that their performance, especially when paired with a subwoofer, will be surprising. This aligns with Mythos' history of delivering deep bass from a low profile.
