I was actually there. I'm in the video. It was such a surreal experience. A whole bunch of deftones fans mixed in with some extras. And during a break while filming in the gym they played change (in the house of flies). It was such an honor to be there the band was totally cool with everyone, was talking to Abe most of the time he is so down to earth. Awesome time. This was filmed in la/valley college. Thank you Deftones......

Chino hates this song because the record label demanded them to release a "catchy / short" song to promote the white pony album. because all the other songs were too slow and long according to them . So an spiteful Chino took the slowest, longest song of the album (pink maggit), made the tempo faster, added distortion and some rapping with the first stupid crap that came to his mind, just to "show those mfers how easy it is to make a hit single". the result was Back to School, and the label loved it.

I love how they made this song just to prove how easy it is to make a single just by changing a few things off the fly yet it's still an awesome song. When the label added this song to "White Pony," it may have been a commercial decision but it ended up making a great album even better. It gives the album a kind of arc, starting out with "Back To School," which is rousing and fun, and then going through all the mood swings of the album before ending with a "reprise" of the "first" song ("Pink Maggit"), except this time it is more like a dirge, as if the band has been worn out and exhausted and this is their last, cathartic transmission before collapse. It was a brilliant addition to the album, but it wasn't an artistic decision, it was a crass commercial decision on the record company's part that ended up working artistically as a happy accident. Which goes to show you that art is bigger than artists and that there is nothing sacred about the artists vision--great art involves a lot of luck and randomness.

I feel like Generation X and Millennials had the most awesome youth, as they had the most awesome rock bands of all time, like Korn, Nirvana, Deftones and many more, and i feel jealous of that (not in a bad way, is just that i wish i could had experience those bands when they were at their prime). There aren't many bands left that are this awesome and this powerful, and most importantly, that don't transmit that energy on stage. Don't get me wrong, there are new rock bands that are fucking awesome, but bands like Deftones appear once, and i don't believe that an era like that will repeat again, at least musically speaking, and it's such a shame. What's only left is to enjoy them as long as they remain. PD: Sorry if i misspelled something. English is not my main language XD

+NightHawkPW You know all of this music still exists? You know that you can just KZitem or Spotify any of these bands and still have access to them? You're also aware that when you do either of this, related searches also pop up so you can see the rest of the music "our generation" dwells on? Music doesn't just suddenly disappear over night. Being a fan then and now only means one thing. You're actually loyal to the cause you're preaching about within this comment. KoRn are still making the same sound that they did 10 years ago when I first heard them, still performed the old famous songs live when I saw them back in January, as are Knot. Times change and so do bands, members everything about them. Slipknot have lost 2 members, Deftones lost one and they had to replace them so differing musical influences will change sounds. You're the typical person that is killing the metal scene and because you can't find anything new to listen to right in front of your face you're just resorting to bitching about old school stuff being better. Being a fan now is no different to back then, you just clearly went through a phase of enjying that type of music and maybe you should move on to something new if you can't appreciate it the way you did back then. I know personally I still listen to Liberate or Spit it Out and wanna destroy my house.

The music channels like MTV, Fuse and VH1 would run all the best rock songs every day. They even had multiple shows dedicated to rock or alternative music. It is terrible what has happened to the rock music industry. The fact you have to look and the press focuses more on other genres is obvious there has been a shift. So I agree with you. They said we lost our heaviness, and there were no more singles on the album. First, I wanted to stick this idea up my ass, but then I thought: 'I'm gonna show those fuckers how easy it is to create a hit-single.'
