I'll go on the record here. That Gojira plugin is a monster. I have a Kemper (which was a god-send) but I always wanted software that could get me usable mix tones. I tried literally everything (Guitar Rig 5, ReValver, BIAS, Pod Farm, 11 Rack, the LePoulin VSTs, Amplitube, Helix Native) and they were all largely unusable for high-gain stuff. Whatever Neural DSP is doing, it's the real deal. It doesn't just sound like a real amp, it mixes like a real amp.

@@javathemocha Thanks for this info. Im just a broke nigga, I am just using reaper with free vst's . I have mostly the Same Problems, for death Metal . i get an ők high gain tone in itself but when I Play along with the song or try to Mix things it almost Always sounds like Shit and no Matter how much EQ , compression I use, there is Always some buzz or fuzz in the Background, especially with continous heavy death metal Palm mutes

I don't remember exactly, I'd have to reopen the project file but here's what I remember: Neural DSP Gojira > Tube Screamer with volume and tone maxed, no drive > High-gain Amp #3 (pretty sure this is a 5150 III Stealth with 6L6 tubes) > Messiah Cab IR (which is an oversized Mesa 4x12 with a 57 angled on it). Pretty sure that the mids are slashed a good amount. You'll want to dial that in by-ear though depending on your pickups.

Badass cover & tone dude holy shit. Do you have the tabs for this or was it learned by ear?
@javathemocha
2 жыл бұрын
A bit of both. There were some okay tabs out there but they didn't really sound right. The main thing is I changed the single note slides in the pre-verse riff into power chords. The solo is really messy though so I went by ear for all of that. This one will get you like 80% of the way there though: tabs.ultimate-guitar.com/tab/deicide/once-upon-the-cross-guitar-pro-1965833

Thank you! It's a very fun song to play. It's a little weird though because all of the notes are crammed close together and there's a lot of chromatic parts that get confusing. The solo is especially confusing haha.

Crazy tone and great skills man.. what is the guitar tone for this song?
@javathemocha

It was actually really easy to get. I recently got into those Neural DSP plugins and I'm gonna sound like a commercial; but they're the real deal. I used the Gojira plugin they made. Word on the street is that the "High Gain" amp in the Gorjira pack is an EVH 5150 III Stealth. So I used that with a typical tube screamer in the front. Cabinet is an oversized Mesa 4x12 with an SM57 on it. And then since it's 90's death metal, you need a pretty severe cut in the low-mids. Guitar is also outfitted with a Dimarzio D'Activator X if that helps.

@@javathemocha Thanks man, I never tried this one.. One more question if I can, what is the tuning for this song?
@javathemocha

@@victormts6698 they're all very good plugins. They lack the utility of an amp that you can bring out live, but they're also much more affordable than a real amp...and sound just as good to my ear at least. And oh yeah! It's in Eb standard. So just take everything down 1 fret/1 semitone from standard and you're there.

I'll wager that you're probably not familiar with Scott Burns haha. You'd be hard pressed to find a 90's death metal record with a prominent mid range. I'd probably lose the backing track completely if I pumped them. I did try to account for this with more upper-mids though, so you can definitely hear the picking and the notes clearly. They used to just slash all the mids in the 90's though. That's "the sound". Check out the 2nd Demolition Hammer album if you wanna hear what "going too far" sounds like.
