Here is the theme song from the "Deku Palace" from the game, The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, played on the violin! :D This video is a little different from my other videos, but I hope you still like it. =) I believe the original song was composed by Koji Kondo. He's a really talented composer of video game music for multiple Nintendo games.
I spent a lot of my childhood playing Zelda games, and this theme song was one of my favorite songs from the series. It has a catchy melody, lots of drums, and I could listen to it on repeat and never get tired of it. I think it has some elements to it that remind me of some of the folk music that I like to play, so maybe that's why I like it so much.
I noticed that the melody could be played as a round, so I tried to incorporate that idea into this arrangement. Then I came up with a rather bizarre B part harmony to the song. I'm still not sure if I like how it turned out, but it was fun to come up with! =) Making the backing track to this was probably the most fun I've ever had making a backing track lol. It was so nostalgic listening to the song over and over again and trying to pick out the notes that the different instruments would play!
When I was around the age of 13, my friend and I played this song as a duet at one of our school orchestra concerts. We didn't play it the way I played it in this video, but we came up with a way to harmonize a little and play it in octaves. Most of my past performances are a big blur, but for some reason, I really remember the performance of this song. I was SUPER DUPER nervous (I had and still have terrible stage fright), the room and stage were really dark, and I remember a lot of the other teenagers in the audience became excited when it was announced that something from Zelda was going to be played. It felt like the pressure was really on, but then someone's pager went off...Who ever had their pager start beeping helped alleviate some of my nerves. I remember we messed up a little bit, but we got through the entire song! It was a lot of fun. Finishing playing a song after feeling super nervous is one of the best feelings. :D
I'm pretty sure The Legend of Zelda has been my favorite Nintendo series. I haven't played a lot of the newer games, but I've played a lot of the older ones! A Link to the Past, Link's Awakening, Ocarina of Time, and Majora's Mask are probably my favorite ones. ^_^
I suspect gaming music might be kind of a sensitive genre to explore. I hope I didn't butcher the song for anyone. :/ I'm just having fun and experimenting a bit. =)
This video was filmed in the Garden of the Gods park -- a free city park that's one of my favorites to visit when I'm in Colorado Springs.
Thank you for watching, and I hope you have a good rest of the week! :D
