Hi there, fellow bass players. First, some time stamps:
00:06 neck PU only
00:57 both PUs (bridge in REAR position)
01:22 both PUs (bridge in FRONT position)
02:12 bridge PU (in REAR position)
03:00 bridge PU (in FRONT position)
Here you find my demo of the Delano Times Square 5-string humbucker pickup set for bass guitar.
For the bridge pickup I tested two positions:
- REAR: ca. 6,6 cm distance from the average bridge saddle position to the middle between the two coils
- FRONT with a distance of ca. 7,3 cm (i.e. +7mm compared to 'rear')
I think the difference is noticeable; the tone has (as expected) more body in the FRONT position, but still has that quick punch you want from the bridge PU.
Recording conditions:
- direct signal only
- passive mode only (= no EQ)
- no plugins except for a very light/mild DI simulation
Equipment:
Yamaha TRB 1005 (year 2008)
- 35 inch scale
- alder body with maple top and a thin hard wood layer
- bolt on 3-piece maple neck with rosewood fretboard
- electronics: irrelevant because played here in passive mode
My opinion: I really like the pickup. It's has a very quick response and covers the whole freq. spectrum in a balanced way. The high end is quite bright and present, I feel, compared to the Aguilar Super Double (where the highend is a bit more controlled). A really good set.
