Very well said Jonny! I have also noticed the detrimental effects that SM has had on my brain. I now pay so much attention to what others are doing in the world I’ve allowed myself to get confused and somewhat insecure. I come from the era where there were no cell phones and life seemed so much simpler, allowing me to create from my purer inspiration. Great suggestions🙏

I'm really interested in seeing if there is any impact on your business from not having your socials active and seeing which ones you go back to after your detox. I love the connection I can have with people on social but I totally hate the addictive tendencies of always looking at the phone. And yah, the car crash feeling of always knowing all the bad things that are going on in the world is pretty heinous. Especially the things that I can absolutely do nothing about. Thank you for making great videos for us to watch!

Best of luck with this! I shut down all of my apps for a vacation which allowed me to be more in the moment. I highly encourage detoxing like you say, to retrain our brains.

THANK YOU JONNY! I’ve not launched yet, but will be soon. When I pop on Instagram I instantly feel very anxious because I’m 64 and lack the tech skills to create anything but photos of my products. That’s it! That’s all I have to offer. However, one style or type of my products is VERY niche!! I know your time is valuable, but if you have any quick opinion (because I don’t want to waste your time) I would greatly appreciate and love to hear it?! Thank you for this video! Blessings to you and your family!🙏🏻❤️

Im going to pull IG, FB, and TT off my phone. Not only are they a huge time sink, but they are saturated with ads. I’ll keep YT as I use it as a learning tool-I don’t think of it as social media. It would also be saturated with ads, but I pay for the premium version. Thanks for the video.

Amen ... I'm not the only one thinking the same. Social media, go back to old school. Only access it all via my desktop slash laptop. Phone is for communication that's it.

Great work mate. It's something I have been thinking about lately also. What value does staying consistent on Inst really do? Value as in personal growth. I don't think much. After many months this has resulted in my moving to more long form content for KZitem.

Very true. I don't do IG, because it literally floods my brain. What you say about being delivered content that causes despondency is also true. Why because a lot of it comes with maybe 2k 'likes', and is awful. But there is pressure to do likewise, so with landscape photography you often end up with these 'radioactive' images or obviously AI ones and you feel like you are pushing against the common consensus if you don't do likewise. Then you feel bad because your images are just like everybody else's.

It's an interesting exercise, and one I do at least twice a year just to clam the "noise" that SM brings. It's a process that certainly does focus you in to what actually matters to, both in terms of the platforms you use and the people you actively engage with. I hope it brings you that too. Ironically, KZitem has been one of the biggest mental challenges for me this year, specifically around the photography genre. Watching insanely talented photographers go to incredible locations almost every day (and I include you in that talent pool Jonny!) was starting to damage me mentally and creatively. I couldn't get to those locations, I couldn't take those epic photos, therefore what was the point? Why bother? Why even HAVE a camera? It was removing my ability to think for myself or see my own images. Everything I looked at wasn't "that" image. I think as humans we are all inherently competitive and want to be good at the things we choose to do. When there is a constant feed of people who ARE good at that thing, it's easy to feel beaten or wasting your time. It happens without us realising most of the time I think so, when the realisation does hit, it's important to act on it like this. I've just spent a week in Eryri and consciously ignored YT for the weeks prior and during so I could be "alone" with "my" photography. I came away with some images I still can't believe I took myself, and I think it was because I wasn't trying to do what someone else did. I just did "me".

Social media pre-algorythms was fun. But since the algos, it's devastating. I've turned off lots of notifications. I only use IG, and only on Sundays. I put my phone out of reach/sight. Lately, I've focused on reading books. Being bored is necessary.

I had the car crash/dash cam thing too. I had to scroll past as soon as I recognised what it was. Maybe a dozen times and they stopped. This is the only way I know how to manage the distractions: recognise them and remove them. It’s now got to the point where the platforms are largely uninteresting now. Perhaps that’s stopped my own posts getting traction though.

Loved this video!!! 🙌💪🏼 and like i said on your previous video I can’t wait for the results video!! Quick question… have you deleted KZitem off your phone aswell 🤔🤔 I know KZitem is a social media platform but I personally don’t think it’s a much a time suck as the other platforms, or maybe I just feel I get more useful info out of KZitem but still it is a SM platform non the less! 😂😂

Im a person who never used Instagram and refused to install Tik Tok to this day , absolutely HATE SHORTS even on YT , from the start it looked off to me , like what can you show me in 10 seconds that is gonna be useful !? I only use KZitem as a source of information for the things im interested and thats about it. Dont use Twitter , Facebook , Instagram or Tik Tok. I used to have a FB account and Twitter and i found myself looking mostly at things that are hateful or shit i didnt want to look at in the first place m no matter how hard i tried to filter them out. So i simply deleted my accounts and never looked back. It was probably over 10 years ago and SURPRISE im still alive and well without that crap.

I'm happy on social media. The tick is to have two accounts. One for friends and family which you rarely check and it's so that they know youre there alive types and which will make you depressed... Other one for YOUR passion and interests with no friends and family.. Very important those two never mix. From art to music to science to photography my other account is filled with what i want to see and not the app. Oh yes and one must remove atleast half hour of ones time to report and block the unwanted posts which are trending all over. Over time your curated news feed will be a delight to go through. I mean i just love browsing instagram watching videos on nature and science and my favorite metal bands and their cover songs.
