Thanks for making this, I have been thinking about this mod for my 2018 STI, and this is very helpful, love the cross bracing.

Im curious as to the bracing you have added. Have the same car, and have sent some time inspecting and mocking up some bracing for the rear and front bumper mounts. Id love to see more of your fab work from the bottom side.

There should be more pictures on my Instagram @zero.thiccwrx. I’m out of town at the moment so making more videos on the WRX isn’t possible lol

Your subie is a little too hot boi for me but I was impressed with your work! Never seen this done on a 15+ wrx before! Looks gnarly!

I see your OE exhaust was leaking at the muffler flange too as witnessed at 2:24...was this really necessary on a "styled street car"?
@StephenBaran
Жыл бұрын
I use my personal build for my business and to build custom exhausts from time to time. It’s a normal occurrence for me to move the car with exhaust pieces missing if I’m in the middle of a fab job. I build and modify this car for both myself and for research. Definitely not necessary for a standard street car, however with the work I do for clients who race their VAs, it was definitely worth the knowledge and experience gained from this process. 😊

This is different. Can you elaborate on why you did this lol. Just for the hell of it?
@StephenBaran

It was ugly, wasted space inside, and due to my air setup I couldn’t access that area anyway. This gives me more room to work to stiffen up the rear section of the car as well (bracing that I fabbed)

Why did you remove weight to add it back and maybe more?
@StephenBaran
4 жыл бұрын
It’s about offsetting the weight. Deleting the spare wheel well allowed me to maintain the same weight all while strengthening the chassis, rather than gaining weight by doing so. That, and removing the wheel well will open up room for other activity’s that I haven’t disclosed yet. 😅

you should expand your diffuser upwards, one it will fill in that gap... two it will creating a expansion zone or a venturi effect which makes the diffuser actually functional

Slow and steady my friend. Usually when I have time I spend it building orders for customers. I plan on getting back to the diffuser at some point, I’m just not sure when.

All that for weight reduction and then welded back in even more weight for bracing lol
@StephenBaran
3 жыл бұрын
Actually, if you count the weight of the spare wheel, the jack, and everything else that holds it into place as well as the spare wheel well itself, I still saved weight. It’s tubing, not round stock lol It also makes it easier to gain access to the rear subframe/diff for future maintenance. Unlike the spare wheel well, the bracing is removable.
