An Overview !
Hey everyone! Today, we are exploring an often overlooked gem in New Delhi-Kushak Mahal, located inside the Teen Murti Bhawan complex. For a long time, whenever I was near Teen Murti circle, I noticed Kushak Road and always wondered about its significance. It turns out that this road leads to the historical Kushak Mahal, built by Firuz Shah Tughlaq, the third prominent Tughlaq ruler, in the 14th century as a hunting lodge, then called Shikargah.
Kushak Mahal is a nearly square structure made of rubble, perched on a five-meter-high platform. It features three beautiful arched openings supported by stone pillars, and its bays are divided into three compartments, each with a flat roof on a vaulted ceiling. The arches and design elements are truly fascinating.
Interestingly, even if you are at Teen Murti House, you might miss this hidden structure unless you know where to look. It’s great to see that school children are often brought here for picnics to learn about their heritage while visiting the Teen Murti Museum and Planetarium. So, next time you're in the area, make sure to check out this historical treasure!
