Everything except keyboard buttons looks amazing and it would be nice if build quality was consistently good like with Asus laptops. IMO it's 9/10 design except those media buttons could have been HOME and END, but it's fine enough because they can be remapped if you're really into it. Lack of numpad is actually an ADVANTAGE, it allows more space like 65% keyboard when drawing line from stomach navel to letter "M" on ANSI keyboards for painless typing, so you are typing painlessly and at the same time get the accuracy of mouse. Power button design also is ugly triangle. BUT IS THE SOFTWARE FIXED :DDD That's where Asus TUF is a win-win.

Common argument I see against the numpad is that it makes you have to rest your hand in a less comfortable spot while gaming, and sometimes it moves the keys into a hotter part of the notebook. I think that's a bit bunk though, especially given that Dell ruined this layout with a row of function keys on the right that just offset the whole keyboard in a weird way. Also, good work, keep it up. Also, what laptop is that at 12:33?

Yeah I don't notice an ergonomic difference at all, I think it's really down to aesthetics (more centered keyboard/trackpad = more pretty). I don't mind the numberpad vanishing if there's speakers or something in its place but blank space is just rude haha. 12:33 is a previous-gen Aero 16

I have been eyeing the Dell G16 with 13th gen i7 13650HX + 4060, but paused my buying decision, till a few good reviews (like yours) were released. I do realise that you have an i5 + 4050, but nonetheless, could you please consider answering the following points in your future video of the full review? Will be extremely grateful for your thoughts on these. (BTW, all new Dell G series laptops with 40xx GPUs get Vapour Chamber. The 4050 variant gets Element 31 only on the CPU, while the variants from 4060 onwards get it for both, the CPU and GPU. I have sourced this info from within the company - Dell. Do let me know if you'd like me to provide the company material on Vapour Chamber + Element 31 to you.) I am very concerened about the thermals of the laptop, considering that I want to play the MS Flight Simulator 2020, which is a heavy game. Here are my queries: 1) Does the upgraded thermal system contain the heat & fan noise well? Or does the CPU still constantly sit in the 90 deg C region while gaming? If it's bad in the i5 + 4050, it will surely be an issue in the higher variants too. 2) Does Dell allow the CPU to be undervolted? Does it provide a TCC Offset function in the BIOS or Alienware Command Centre? If so, does the TCC Offset help in controlling CPU temps without affecting gaming performance much? 3) In your past experience, do CPU temps of 90 deg C & above (during long gaming sessions) have a negative impact on the long term durability of the laptop? I have watched a few KZitem interviews of Intel & Dell thermal engineers. They say that they deliberately push the temps high to get max performance, and that the CPU can handle the elevated temps. But no one mentions if adjacent parts on the motherboard can handle the heat too.
@siyzerix
Жыл бұрын
Its intel that has stopped undervolting being a thing. OEM's can't change that. And intel did that to keep you upgrading because if undervolting was a thing then you wouldn't upgrade.
@codeHusky
Жыл бұрын
@@siyzerix You can still add undervolting on modern platforms. XMG specifically has that capability in the BIOSes it releases for its Intel laptops. Just most laptop manufacturers don't care enough to try and support it
@siyzerix
Жыл бұрын
@@codeHusky Well thats great, but OEM's never supported undervolting. Yet we still had it with 4th to 9th gen intel CPU's. Then intel used the security excuse to block it and now only certain OEM's give you undervolting. Nvidia is the only one supporting undervolting but even they're starting to show signs of scumminess by restricting rtx 4000 voltage on laptops. You can see the 4050, 4060 and 4070 barely utilize that full 140w TDP. Even when the 4060 and 4070 get close to that limit, they don't have much of a performance increase.
@shirishgandhi007
Жыл бұрын
@@siyzerix and @codeHusky Thanks for your inputs. Yup, I'm aware that Intel has blocked undervolting from its end. But as @codeHusky mentioned, some OEMs are still making an effort to provide it. Just wanted to know if Dell's supporting it too, though in all probability it won't. Follow up questions on that. A) If OEMs aren't going to make an effort to support undervolting, then what's the point of providing HX chips which are said to be "unlocked"? They cost more, and what do we get in lieu of that - just a higher 55W TDP? B) If undervolting can't be done, then can the TCC Offset function provide a good balance between good performance and reasonable temps?
@siyzerix
Жыл бұрын
@@shirishgandhi007 Now you're asking the real questions. Intel gives you hx cpu's for the privilage of undervolting and tuning. They're literally just an unlocked i7 12700h. We're not even asking for overclocking. We just want undervolting, which intel is now charging money for.

I purchased G16 7630, it is worth for $1500 dollars, but I faced the following issues and I suggest all to go through it before purchasing this laptop. 1. Keyboard backlight issue- It stopped working after updating all drivers. It took me days to fix it. 2. Poor Dell Technical Support- they failed to resolve the above issue. They told that the keyboard and palmrest has to be replaced. 3. Poor thermal design 4. Bulky Charger 5. Loaded with Bloatware 6. No number keys in keyboard 7. Low quality/ performance SSD and RAM 8. Smaller touchpad compared to competitors. 9. Camera quality could be improved. 10. Dell could have improved it to a power efficient device to consume at least 100W less.

One of my biggest gripes is why do laptops need to have half sized function keys? Also. The rtx 4050 is a scam. Essentially all rtx 4000 series laptops are giant scams. Almost not worth buying at all. That rtx 4050 can use 140w TDP, the same as the rtx 4070. Infact the 4050, 4060 and 4070 all have the same 35w to 140w TDP range. Which is simply baffling. The rtx 4060 should've been the rtx 4050 (or 4050ti at most) and limited to 60w max, so as to make the laptop more affordable AND suited to thinner and lighter machines. Same with the rtx 4050. Then give both those parts turing prices, meaning the 4050 stays firmly at or below $750 and the 4050ti (current 4060) stays at $850 or below. The current rtx 4070 is really what the rtx 4060 should've been. If dell gave it a 300w brick, then that suggests the 4050 uses 140w and the i5 probably uses 100w or something ridiculous and the laptop is able to power both of them at their max wattages simultaneously.

Consider build quality a lot and get a metal lid! I touched a lot of laptops and many have terrible trackpads despite being good in specs. It can be very frustrating to have a completely shit trackpad and having no replacement options. Metal lid, stable click trackpad(it can press slightly harder on edges only but it mustn't bend in or be hard to press like many do!). Also make sure to get adequate software for cooling. I'd recommend Asus TUF Gaming or Dash with a metal lid for best build quality in gaming laptop for the price.

@@cobragun Solid choice, I also got TUF series, but TUF Dash. Make sure to touch laptop because trackpads on Windows laptops can often be defective, so it shouldn't cause any discomfort. Also good idea is having Power Delivery charging, so appropriate type C cable with 50-100w power brick can charge your laptop for medium performance mode. It means being able to use same charger between various supported laptops and compact brick to carry.
