BnT Chamal: I think you are asking "What happened?" If not forgive me. And I am only giving my opinion which might be completely wrong. Schwartz was Reed's English instructor at Syracuse when Reed was fighting his homosexual feelings and when his parents forced him into electroshock therapy. Schwartz's parents divorced when he was 9 and this had a profound effect on him growing up. In the story, he is trying to warn his parents to not get married but can't due to the fact that he is just a bystander in the audience of the movie. I think Reed liked this story so much because it is figuratively telling his parents NOT to have him as a child because he saw himself as damaged, and confused in his homosexuality at the time. Hence, the character in the story is dismissed at the end of the story without ever getting to explain himself. DON'T KNOW... just my take on it.

I don’t know all the stories, but I think this is one of the top American short stories ever written.

Brilliant and emotionally invested narration from Lou, his deep trembling voice really epitomises the narrator.

has Lou forgotten his glasses or is this to be seen as a creative act?
