It's easier to steam the milk first then do the espresso shot .no waiting time needed.
@geuros
6 жыл бұрын
yeah but I tend to need to keep circling the foam in the pitcher since I stopped frothing it because it tends to separate from "uniform" microfoam to classic milk+foam, which is useless for latte art. But of course, that approach is most likely better... the best would be a machine with double boiler, but they're too expensive (first that comes to mind is La Marzocco Linea mini)
@beebeeice

Hi. Are you using the original double portafilter that came with the machine? And does your machine need to reboil when steaming the milk? I would always have to off the steam and wait for it to reboil when steaming my milk.

on top of what carlos said, each basket calls for a different grind size and dosage. It's better to do the grinding your self so you can dial in the best shot but since you got preground you'll have to adjust dosage only. if you do invest in a grinder make sure you get one that can grind fine enough for espresso!

@Snaitycake

I am not the owner of the video and I know this comment is a bit old, but I can answer it! The Rancilio Silvia is a real steam wand; the one that comes with the machine is a specific wand made to help with people who aren't used to espresso, but doesn't produce as good quality of results. So with the Silvia, you can get frothed milk similar to a coffee shop. The portafilter and sump would need to be replaced. The stock one is a pressurized portafilter, which also helps newbies but doesn't give good results. I'm about to do both of these mods to my own EC155. I'm using the La Pavoni Millenium 2 Cup Filter Basket and combining it with a Delonghi 7313280779 Sump to make a bottomless portafilter. That combined with a great grinder and wand will make great espresso! Hope this helps. :)
@LuisGomez-ui2xj
4 жыл бұрын
@@Snaitycake Thank you so much, Kelse!!! That helped tremendously!!! I will order both! One question, how come this combination give better results than the stocked pressurized portafilter? Thanks again!
@Snaitycake
4 жыл бұрын
I think it mainly has to do with the control and grind size. The espresso needs to have a decent extraction of the coffee oils, which fine grinding helps. Fine grinding + good tamping + good coffee/water = a well balanced and rich espresso. A pressurized portafilter can't have as fine of espresso grinds because it will block the double-wall basket system and choke the coffee. The reason a pressurized is good for new to espresso people is because they probably don't have the right equipment to get a good espresso, so it makes up for the skill it takes to get one by accommodating those factors, which makes it easier to use. :) But if you are a coffee snob (like me), then it makes a huge difference to learn with a non-pressurized or a "naked" portafilter!

I did the mod but can't seem to make latter milk, it's always bubbly for capuccinos. Do you use full pressure to froth? When looking for rancillio Silvia milk frothing videos they always say hear the sound that means air is coming in milk, but with this mod, I can't get that sound so I came to see your video and you seem to have better skills than I could, but I still don't hear that sound
